AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking system), a system in which vehicles automatically recognize forward objects or pedestrians and actively brake when forward collisions are expected, has been mandated by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) for all vehicles sell in the United States since 2022, and AEB research is also actively underway in korea. In this study, it can be confirmed that the passenger injury is reduced according to the AEB detection distance when it is assumed that the AEB is mounted in the actual event generated from KIDAS (Korea New Car Assessment Program) data through various analysis programs.

The IEEE 802.11 WLAN adopts a random backoff algorithm for its collision avoidance mechanism, and it is well known that the contention-based algorithm may suffer from performance degradation especially in congested networks. In this paper, we design an efficient backoff algorithm that utilizes a reinforcement learning method to determine optimal values of backoffs. The mobile nodes share a common contention window (CW) in our scheme, and using a Q-learning algorithm, they can avoid collisions by finding and implicitly reserving their optimal time slot(s). In addition, we introduce Frame Size Control (FSC) algorithm to minimize the possible degradation of aggregate throughput when the number of nodes exceeds the CW size. Our simulation shows that the proposed backoff algorithm with FSC method outperforms the 802.11 protocol regardless of the traffic conditions, and an analytical modeling proves that our mechanism has a unique operating point that is fair and stable.

In this study, It is conducted for novice drivers about driving behavior and psychological characteristics analysis to reduce traffic accident risk and provide the basic data of education program development. Therefore, this study classified by the category-specific characteristics and hazard prediction through survey of the novice driver and unpredictable behavior and psychological characteristics were studied. The novice and general characteristics and driving behavior with vehicle simulators, comparison and analysis of the novice driver traffic safety education basic research direction based on the statistical results. Prediction the results of this study, the Hazard of the driver, speeding, traffic violation, information providing omission, abrupt change, the number of accidents in all areas novice driver is high compared to the general driver. In addition, Novice driver showed a statistically significant level of Hazard compared to the general driver target novice drivers and the general ability to predict Hazard of violation, abrupt change, and a number of traffic accidents were omitted level of speeding and other information providing level drivers all showed similar results. Vehicle simulator. The experimental results showed that novice drivers compared to drivers poorly overall driving performance. It showed a notable difference in the number of collisions, especially novice drivers compared to drivers in complex road traffic conditions due to a lack of driving experience and learning ability are considered.
Vehicle safety service can be effectively achieved with inter-vehicle communication technologies, in which moving vehicles transmit a safety related urgency information such as traffic accidents, sudden stops, obstacle appearance etc. They usually utilize a broadcast of message propagation method because the communicating vehicles are not known each other. The pure broadcasting scheme does not satisfy the requirements of vehicle safety communication service due to the transmission delay with frequent message collisions. To resolve this problem, this paper presents a group based propagation method for the multi-hop transmission, in order to deliver an urgency message to the reasonable size of vehicle troop. A group header is elected in considering of the position information of vehicles and radio transmission range. And a vehicle equivalent group is formed with the header. With benefits of the group based transmission, it is possible to minimize the unnecessary transmission and the possibility of message collisions. Simulation results show that the message propagation performance is so stable regardless of vehicle's congestion degree.

Recently there have been an increasing amount of bicycle accidents along with the increased usage of bicycles. Bicycle accidents occur frequently by perpendicular collision at the inner intersection. Bicycle traffic is especially concentrated in residential areas and around schools which results in the vulnerability of cyclists. This paper is to inform the potential risks of collisions between bicycles and cars turning right at the intersections using simulation analysis which focuses on the pavement edge of intersection geometric designs factor and checks on the drivers behavior. The result of the analysis shows that as the curve radius of pavement edge at the intersection becomes larger and the more attention drivers are paying to the rear by turning their heads to the right, the potential risk of collisions between bicycles and cars turning right will decrease.

This paper address a new scheme that alleviates the packet collision problem caused by contentions among nearby coordinators (CNs) in IEEE 802.15.4 meshed sensor networks. In existing studies, the number of retransmissions is reduced by adjusting the proper backoff period (BP) of sensor nodes, or unnecessary energy consumption is diminished by increasing channel utilization efficiently based on traffic load. In contrast, the proposed scheme avoids contentions among nearby CNs, thereby it enhances the energy efficiency of sensor nodes. To achieve this, the proposed scheme separates the starting points of CNs' contention periods and reduces contentions and collisions among overlapping CNs. According to our simulation results, the proposed scheme shows improved performance in terms of energy consumption, throughput, the number of collisions, and average delay for all conditions.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the relationships between cognitive abilities and driving characteristics of elderly drivers. Driving characteristics of elderly and younger drivers who were driving a fixed base driving simulator vehicle were examined. Participants consisted of 12 drivers over age 65 (the 'older' group) and 12 drivers between the ages of 25 and 55 (the "younger" group). As indices of cognitive ability, critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF) tests and cognitive reaction tests were given before the driving task. CFF was also tested after the simulated driving task for both groups. Cognitive reaction tests, which were composed of speed estimation tests, multiple choice reaction tests and obstacle avoidance tests, were developed by the Korean Road Traffic Safety Authority in 2003. CFF values between the two groups exhibited significant differences both before and after the task, with a p-value less than 0.01 and a t-value of -3.01 before the test and a p-value less than 0.031 and a t-value of -2.35 after the test. Older drivers' CFF values were lower than those of the younger. However, there was no difference in older or younger driver CFF values before and after the task within the same group. Except for the multiple choice reaction test, there was no difference in cognitive reaction test results between the two groups. The elderly drivers made more errors though they did not differ from the younger drivers in reaction times. At the simulated driving task the reaction time of the elderly driver was longer than that of the younger; however, the driving speed of the elderly was lower and the number of collisions greater. There was a positive correlation (r=.496) between the number of errors in the multiple choice reaction test and the number of collisions in the driving task. Therefore, it was identified that critical attributes contributing to automobile crashes involving elderly drivers included cognitive difficulty in judging and responding to complex situations.
This study deals with the rear-end collisions in the rural aiea. The objectives of this study are 1) to analyze the characteristics of rear-end accidents of signalized intersections, and 2) to develop the accident models for Cheongju-Cheongwon. In pursing the above, this study gives the particular attentions to comparing the characters of urban and rural area. In this study, the dependent variables are the number of accidents and value of EPDO(equivalent property damage only), and independent variables are the traffic volumes and geometric elements. The main results analyzed are the followings. First, the statistical analyses show that the Poisson accident model using the number of accident as a dependant variable are statistically significant and the negative binomial accident model using the value of EPDO are statistically significant. Second, the independent variables of Poisson model are analyzed to be the ratio of high-occupancy vehicles, total traffic volume and the sum of exit/entry, and those of negative binomial regression are the main road width, total traffic volume and the ratio of high-occupancy vehicles. Finally, the specific independent variables to the rural area are the main road width, the ratio of high occupancy vehicle, and the sum exit/entry.

Despite the movement of safe traffic by the Korean government to reduce deaths in traffic accidents, the casualties increase year by year. In particular, more and more accidents and casualties are reported from car collisions from the back of the vehicles parked for managing traffic accidents on the road, cleaning main roads and medial strips, repairing roads. In order to response to these accidents, the government should take protective measures for road users. In the last decade, seventy-one cases have been reported to occur during highway repair and maintenance. As a result, eight persons were killed and seventy-six were injured, showing the high death rate of 11.3 percent. Therefore, it seems urgent to take some actions against it. The United States and European countries legislate that vehicles of road repair and maintenance should be mandatorily equipped with shock absorber at the back. Korea, however, does not have such legislative measures, which are needed at this time to protect workers on the road. This study compares the performance of the traditional shock absorber for road maintenance vehicles with that of the rear safety guard using air bag, manufactured in accordance with related laws in Korea. Based on the results of the 60km/h rear collision test, this paper proposes improvements in related laws and regulations in an attempt to reduce casualties.
P2P(Peer-to-Peer) architecture can reduce the network bandwidth and resource on the server since peers exchange data chunks with each other, while server-client architecture causes a lot of traffic on the server. Peers receive a data more reliably when the number of participating peer increases. Currently, P2P traffic has accounted for about 65% of the world's Internet traffic and diverse P2P streaming services have launched combining to video streaming technology. However, the requirements and data chunk delivery algorithms for mobile P2P streaming service should be investigated, since the existing P2P technologies have been developed and designed for the wired network. In particular, the bandwidth fluctuation caused by user mobility, wireless packet collisions, and packet losses brings about different problems on the mobile P2P streaming service compared to existing P2P streaming service. In this paper, we analyzed the problem of mobile P2P streaming services in the 802.11n wireless LAN environment through experiments.
