Aggregate bandwidth required by the internet is expected to be explosively increased. To meet this anticipated need, an ultra high speed internet backbone transport network, capable of supporting up to a Tbps traffic capacity, is required. this thesis examines, through computer simulation and modeling, the technological requirements and assesses the performance analysis and feasibility for implementing ultra-high speed NGI backbone transport network fabric based on WDM technology. The study results are that C/L band EDFA spectral gains for ultra high speed DWDM have been improved from 2.61dB/1.5386dB to 0.03dB/0.096dB by proposed architecture.

Joints are provided in cement concrete pavements to control transverse and longitudinal cracking that occur due to restrained deformations caused by moisture and temperature variations in the slab. But the construction of joints reduces the load-carrying capacity of the pavement at the joints, and pavements have beem deteriorated by cracks at the slab edges along the joints due to traffic loads. Therefore, it is important to analyze the behavior of joints accurately in the design of cement concrete pavements. In this study, the mechanical behavior of cement concrete pavement slabs is analyzed by the plate-finite element model, and Winkler foundation model is adopted to analyze the subgrades. The load transfer mechanism of joints are composed of dowel action, aggregate interlocking, and tied-key action, and the analytical program is developed using these joint models.
This paper presents deterministic, worst-case analysis of a queueing system whose multiple homogeneous input streams are regulated by the associated leaky buckets and the queueing system that has a single stream regulated by the jumping-window. Queueing delay averaged over all items is used for performance measure, and the worst-case input traffic and the worst-case performance are identified for both queueing systems. For the former queueing system, the analysis explores different phase relations among leaky-bucket token generations. This paper observes how the phase differences among the leaky buckets affect the worst-case queueing performance. Then, this paper relates the worst-case performance of the former queueing system with that of the latter (the single stream case, as in the aggregate streams from many users, whose item arrivals are regulated by one jumping-window). It is shown that the worst-case performance of the latter is identical to that of the former in which all leaky buckets have the same phase and have particular leaky bucket parameters.
This paper proposes a new dynamic spectrum access (DSA) algorithm for cognitive radio networks. Once initialized, this algorithm works without the need of coordination overhead and hence can be used when no control channel is available. Secondary user (SU) lists and predetermined access control are used in this algorithm. We analyze the probability of no SU collision with primary user and the throughput of our proposed algorithm. Extensive simulations show that our algorithm outperforms the existing DSA algorithm in terms of both the aggregate throughput and the traffic distribution fairness. Furthermore, the validity of our analysis is confirmed by simulation results.

The IEEE 802.11 WLAN adopts a random backoff algorithm for its collision avoidance mechanism, and it is well known that the contention-based algorithm may suffer from performance degradation especially in congested networks. In this paper, we design an efficient backoff algorithm that utilizes a reinforcement learning method to determine optimal values of backoffs. The mobile nodes share a common contention window (CW) in our scheme, and using a Q-learning algorithm, they can avoid collisions by finding and implicitly reserving their optimal time slot(s). In addition, we introduce Frame Size Control (FSC) algorithm to minimize the possible degradation of aggregate throughput when the number of nodes exceeds the CW size. Our simulation shows that the proposed backoff algorithm with FSC method outperforms the 802.11 protocol regardless of the traffic conditions, and an analytical modeling proves that our mechanism has a unique operating point that is fair and stable.
Existing arterial link travel time estimation methods relying on either aggregate point-based or individual section-based traffic data have their inherent limitations. This paper demonstrates the utility of data fusion for improving arterial link travel time estimation. If the data describe traffic conditions, an operator wants to know whether the situations are going better or worse. In addition, some traffic information providing strategies require predictions of what would be the values of traffic variables during the next time period. In such situations, it is necessary to use a prediction algorithm in order to extract the average trends in traffic data or make short-term predictions of the control variables. In this research. a multi-step ahead prediction algorithm using Data fusion was developed to predict a link travel time. The algorithm performance were tested in terms of performance measures such as MAE (Mean Absolute Error), MARE(mean absolute relative error), RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), EC(equality coefficient). The performance of the proposed algorithm was superior to the current one-step ahead prediction algorithm.
This study is for empirical verification of the influence of the introduction of smart phone on using the portal sites that were affected the most in the previous media environment. To achieve this, Web traffic data that are the result of smart phone users' practical Web uses have collected longitudinally and analyzed. The research results are the following: First, the use hours of portal sites have decreased about 15% and the page views have did about 35%, since using smart phones was diffused and habituated in earnest during the past two years. Using the community, news media, video, mobile, and game section of portal site sections have reduced. Second, the portal site portion of using smart phone Web is much more than that portion of using PC Web. More than two thirds of smart phone Web use traffic occurs in using portal sites, while more than one third of PC Web use traffic does in using that. Using the news media section is the most of using portal site sections on a smart phone. Third, since the introduction of smart phone, using the news media, communication, and life section of portal site sections have greatly increased, while the community, mobile, and game section have greatly decreased in the aggregate.

Our domestic economy has been developed very rapidly after 1960's. Also, it is dramatically increasing traffic on road and surround environmental issues. Especially, rapid economic growth has been induced large construction of pavement, and bigger and higher traffic for transportation. These are making air pollution, traffic noise and vibration. The social requirement against the revealed road environment and traffic sound reduction is being demanded. Traffic noise of city zone is showed over the environmental specification more than 57%. In order to overcome these situations, the social attention is being increased. The quiet pavement is the same format of permeable pavement, but is not same for functional performance. In this research, it has been carried out to evaluate the fundamental-mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt for quiet pavement. Especially, couple of laboratory tests are conducted like marshall stability, resilient modulus, indirect tensile test, and compaction energy analysis with gyratory compaction curve. Also, two-layer pavement system has been adopted for developing of quiet pavement. The basic performance of hot mix asphalt of quiet pavement show a satisfaction of specification of hot mix asphalt.
Skid resistance is an important factor that control braking distance and secure safety by preventing slipperiness between tire and pavement surface. Decrease of skid resistance at wet condition may cause fatal traffic accidents. Dirt materials such as sand and do-icings on the road surface also can be a factor for decrease skid resistance. This study makes an investigation into influence of skid resistance between varied cement concrete pavements about surface texturing method(transverse tining, longitudinal tining, exposed aggregate surface texturing method) and wearing condition of pavement surface texture(new constructed pavement's surface, wore pavement's surface) using accelerate concrete pavement wearing tester when remains of dirt material are obtained between tire and road surface on PCC pavement. As dirt material on road surface of concrete pavement, sand, calcium chloride and old oil were used with different amount of each cases.
The study examines the quiet pavement using fine-size aggregates and warm-mix technique to reduce traffic noise. In order to evaluate the quality of pavement, mix design and laboratory tests were carried out. Test results showed that using 10mm aggregates can reduce the cantabro loss compared with 13mm aggregates due to increase contact area between aggregates. Mixing and compaction temperatures of warm mix quiet pavement should be determined by gyratory compactor test because it is used high viscosity asphalt binder. Using warm-mix additive could reduce compaction temperature by about $15^{\circ}C$. Noise measurement and permeability tests were conducted at the test road for evaluation of the field performance. All of quiet pavements meet the standard of permeability and have sufficient porosity. Noise reduction of the quiet pavement using fine-size aggregates is more effective than that using 13mm aggregates. In particular, the effect of noise reduction was noticeable at low speeds.
