A total of five pieces of different women's clothing were suggested by applying the developed Jatmulim. In the first piece, the clothing is a woman's sleeveless blouse based on the construction of the Yoseon-Cheolik from the Joseon period and made with a larger sized Jatmulim in the back of the neckline and shoulders. In the second piece, the clothing is designed for a woman's jacket based on the Bansuui of the Joseon period with rectangular Jatmulim in the front neckline and at the end of the sleeves. In the third piece, the clothing is designed for a woman's sleeveless blouse based on the Danryeong with rectangular Jatmulim in the neckline. In the fourth piece, the construction of the Jeogori is applied to the clothing for making a woman's jacket that has a bigger sized Jatmulim in the front part as a decoration. The purpose of this study is to semiotically reinterpret the Korean beauty and symbol inhering in the modern clothing of Korean designers as the context of traditional culture through regarding the clothing including hegemony that is controlling the Korean society and culture as a sign. The theoretical framework for analysis was derived from the semiotically analytic methods of F. Saussure and R. Barthes. The results of the study are as follows ; Korean images reflected in the modern clothing designed by Korean designers are humanistic image, environmental-friendly image, totemic and mythlogical image, equal and peaceful image, and metaphorical and metonymical image. Conclusively, developing a creative design based upon the interpretation of our unique and traditional culture, the clothing could be newly made of historical and cultural resources in the modern lives. If so, I think that the clothing will be not only the visual and decorative art, but also an information which contains implication of our culture, and finally can be established.

This study explored the historical meaning and the present practices of Indonesian batik. Relevant literature was reviewed first; subsequently, interviews and observations were conducted to achieve the purpose of the study. Historically, batik was an integral part of the Javanese court art as well as a representation of each regional culture. Batik also became an important means to reveal a national identity in postcolonial Indonesia in the 1950s. There exist two types of traditional and modern type batik in present Indonesia. The traditional batik refers to batik tulis, batik cap, and the combination of tulis and cap. The modern batik is comprised of a batik print as well as the combination of the print and the traditional batik. The traditional batik was practiced at the small-sized village batik workshops and in the government batik research center. A few batik workshops often co-operate with modern screen print factories; however, the use natural dyes for the dyeing of batik cloth is rarely found. Batik was used for varied objects made from fabric materials that include clothing, small fashion items, living supplies and furniture, as well as fine art such as paintings and wooden crafts.
