  • If stock market is efficient, any well-devised trading rule can't consistently outperform the average stock market returns. This study aims to verify whether the strategy based on bid-ask volume information can beat the stock market. I suggested a day trading strategy using order imbalance indicator and empirically analyzed its profitability with the KOSPI 200 index futures data from 2001 to 2018. Entry rules are as follows: If BSI is over 50%, enter buy order, otherwise enter sell order, assuming that stock price rises after BSI is over 50% and stock price falls after BSI is less than 50%. The empirical results showed that the suggested trading strategy generated very high trading profit, that is, its annual return runs to minimum 71% per annum even after the transaction costs. The profit was generated consistently during 18 years. This study also improved the suggested trading strategy applying the genetic algorithm, which may help the market practitioners who trade the KOSPI 200 index futures.

  • It is a familiar Wall Street adage that "It takes volume to make prices move." Numerous researches have found the positive correlation between trading volume and price changes. Recent studies have documented that informed traders have strong influences on stock market prices through their trading with distinctive information power. Ever since 1992 capital market liberalization in Korea, it is said that foreign investors make consistent profits with their superior information and analytical skills. This study aims at whether we can make a profitable trading strategy by using the foreign investors' trading information. We analyse the relation between the KOSPI index returns and the foreign investors trading volume using GARCH models and VAR models. This study suggests the profitable trading strategies based on the documented relation between the foreign investors' trading volume and KOSPI index returns. We simulate the trading system with the real stock market data. The data include the daily KOSPI index returns and foreign investors' trading volume for 2001~2013. We estimate the GARCH and VAR models using 2001~2011 data and simulate the suggested trading system with the remaining out-of-sample data. Empirical results are as follows. First, we found the significant positive relation between the KOSPI index returns and contemporaneous foreign investors' trading volume. Second, we also found the positive relation between the KOSPI index returns and lagged foreign investors' trading volume. But the relation showed no statistical significance. Third, our suggested trading system showed better trading performance than B&H strategy, especially trading system 2. Our results provide good information for uninformed traders in the Korean stock market.

  • In this paper, we develope a stock trading system that automatically buy and sell stocks in Kiwoom Securities' HTS system. The system is made by using Kiwoom Open API+ with the Python programming language. A trading strategy is based on an enhanced system query method called a Condition-Search. The Condition-Search script is edited in Kiwoom Hero 4 HTS and the script is stored in the Kiwoom server. The Condition-Search script has the advantage of being easy to change the trading strategy because it can be modified and changed as needed. In the HTS system, up to ten Condition-Search scripts are supported, so it is possible to apply various trading methods. But there are some restrictions on transactions and Condition-Search in Kiwoom Open API+. To avoid one problem that has transaction number and frequency are restricted, a method of adjusting the time interval between transactions is applied and the other problem that do not support a threading technique is solved by an IPC(Inter-Process Communication) with multiple login IDs.

  • This study validates the trading rules based market anomalies and technical analysis in the Korean stock market. For the analysis, we built decile portfolios on the basis of corporate characteristics factors that clearly demonstrate specific patterns of stock returns including the firm size, book-to-market equity, and accruals. This portfolio was used to develop a portfolio based on the moving average trading strategy which was used for popular technical analysis tools, and then that was evaluated using the Sharpe ratio. We also created a zero-cost portfolio to identify the profitability and success rate of the moving average trading strategy. We lastly sought to ensure a more robust evaluation by calculating the Sortino ratio of the portfolio based on the moving average trading strategy with various lags. Key findings from this validation are as follows. First, a smaller firm size, a higher book-to-market equity, and lower accruals led to larger average returns. Second, the risk-adjusted performance of the moving average trading strategy was the highest in terms of the firm size, followed by book-to-market equity and accruals. Third, the returns of the zero-cost portfolios all had a positive value, with its overall success rate hovering over 68.8%, demonstrating the successfulness of the moving average trading strategy. Fourth, various evaluations revealed the economic usefulness of our trading strategy that used market anomalies and technical analysis.

  • This paper develops an analytic model for minimizing the cost of distributing items by truck from one supplier to many customers under Milk run logistics strategy. The model derives formulas for not only inventory and transportation costs but also costs associated with carbon emission trading scheme. In addition, monetary investment for reducing carbon emissions is considered. We analyze how to determine optimal shipment size and carbon emission reduction investment. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the effects of carbon emission trading scheme on the Milk run logistics strategy in terms of how much to reduce carbon emissions and/or inventory and transportation costs. We analytically show that it is possible to reduce carbon emissions while reducing inventory and transportation costs by introducing cap-and-trade carbon emission trading scheme under certain conditions.

  • This paper proposes the Pyramid strategy which is based on the straddle sell. The Pyamid strategy has multi-entry features with starting date and delta parameters. And It is hedged against a loss by mutual trades and dynamic ripples. This paper analyzes the profit and MDD(maximum draw down) of the Pyramid strategy on system trading. The portfolio tool is used for the experiment which is one of the Multicharts' package. The Multicharts is a good trading system of recent years. For the experiment, three call options and three put options are used at october in 2009. Two parameters are used which are the starting date from first October to twentieth October in 2009 and delta from eight percent to fifty percent. As a result, the profit of composite option is about 3 million won. If the strategy starts before the beginning of option month, investors feel uncomfortable because of a large MDD. If a delta belows 20%, it shows high profit and the ratio of profit and MDD builds up a low value. However a low delta makes frequent trades and results in a loss unless increasing entry levels which mean more amount of investment. This work provides a safer trade system than native option trades. It is important how much levels of multi-entry are acceptable. And an amount of investment with appropriate levels of multi-entry is a subject of a future study.

  • This paper proposes to develop system trading strategy using rough set, decision tree in futures market. While there is a great deal of literature about the analysis of data mining, there is relatively little work on developing trading strategies in futures markets. There are three objectives in this paper. The first objective is to analysis performance of decision tree in rule-based system trading. The second objective is to find proper profitable trading interval. The last objective is to find optimized training period of trading rule training. The results of this study show that proposed model is useful trading strategy in foreign exchange market and can be desirable solution which gives lots of investors an important investment information.

  • This study investigates the behavior of foreign investors in the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) in the time of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as to whether trading is abnormal, what strategy is followed, whether herd behavior is present, and whether the actions destabilize the market. Foreign investors' trading behavior is measured by net buying volume divided by market capitalization, whereas the stock market behavior is measured by logged return on the SET index portfolio. The data are daily from Tuesday, August 28, 2018, to Monday, May 18, 2020. The study extends the conditional-regression model in an event-study framework and extracts the unobserved abnormal trading behavior using the Kalman filtering technique. It then applies vector autoregressions and impulse responses to test for the investors' chosen strategy, herd behavior, and market destabilization. The results show that foreign investors' abnormal trading volume is negative and significant. An analysis of the abnormal trading volume with stock returns reveals that foreign investors are not positive-feedback investors, but rather, they self-herd. Although foreign investors' abnormal trading does not destabilize the market, it induces stock-return volatility of a similar size to normal trade. The methodology is new; the findings are useful for researchers, local authorities, and investors.

  • The container throughput of China, after the joining in the WTO, has begun to increase notably. As a result, China is busy building new ports continuously. In accordance with China's situation Korea promote the development plans of ports and marketing strategy to attract the increasing cargo traffics with China, including transhipment cargoes. To build the competition strategy and the panning port for trading cargoes with China, an analysis on origin/destination is necessary. The cargo volume from/to the particular port(Korea/China) and origin/destination of traffic are important factors in the requirement for the port development. Therefore, in the era that trading with China is rapidly increasing, this study is performed to analyze the port's usage of transporting the cargos and the origin/destination of trading cargoes with china. Also this paper suggests to the competitive strategies of Pyungtaek Port to attract cargoes particularly from/to China.
