Strategic Framework for Website Evaluation based on a Review of Tourism and Hospitality Literature from 2010-2023

  • This study examines the scientific publications on website evaluation in hospitality and tourism from 2010 to 2023 through a systematic review and discusses implications for future research. The reviewed literature from publication years, journals, research methods, website-related stakeholders, context, various forms of Internet presence (Internet forms), and theories are analyzed to create a comprehensive website evaluation dimension. Furthermore, a conceptual framework is developed to show the relationship between the website characteristics, stakeholders-channels interaction, and stakeholders' reactions. The proposed website evaluation framework in hospitality and tourism synthesizes the existing knowledge, identifies gaps, and further advances our understanding of this research area.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between website environmental characteristics (website characteristics, user characteristics, and external environments), satisfaction, trust and loyalty in tourism e-business. The following results were determined by verifying five hypotheses using LISREL. Website environments partially support perceived satisfaction and also perceived trust. Satisfaction has a strong effect upon perceived trust while satisfaction doesn't effect perceived loyalty. Trust significantly impacts perceived loyalを in tourism e-business.

  • A well-designed website is mandatory for good marketing and proper tourism business. This research considers Nepal as a domain of study and specifically explores welcomenepal.com, the official tourism portal as a reference for the study. The work is based on the study of the existing literature, user-survey, and technical testing of the website using open-source testing tools to identify user perspective, design issues, website architecture and design quality of the tourism website. A population size of 400 respondents, which consist of both domestic and international tourist, are considered for the survey. Data is received from 360 respondents, which is analyzed using statistical tests like Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation, cross-tabulations, bars charts and graphs to draw inferences and consclusion. The software-based test results serve as another important parameter for the evaluation of the current official website. This study brings out core needs of the tourist in terms of expectations from a tourism website and access technical quality of the current portal to provide necessary feedback and suggestions. The government officials, business houses, and web designers can utilize this work as a knowledge base to build tourism websites, which are user-centric. Further, the work is specifically important for Nepal government and tourism officials to identify shortcomings in their current website and make improvements for better design and user adaptability in future.

  • Given the competition between different tourist destinations to attract domestic and international tourists it is absolutely vital to examine their website efficacy on specific attributes. This study employs one of the recently developed multi-criteria decision-making method the Best-Worst Method to assess the state government official tourism website across four Indian states known for their tourism potential- Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on specific attributes provided by the widely acknowledged WebQual instrument. Information Fit-to-Task and Trust emerged as the most important criterion. Relative advantage and Innovation the least important. The results of the study are easily interpretable and visual. They offer both an individual and comparative analysis of the perceived website efficacy on specific attributes to facilitate tourism stakeholders and website administrators to strategize and make their digital presence effective and competitive.

Can We Identify Trip Purpose from a Clickstream Data?

  • Destination marketing organizations (DMOs) utilize the official website for marketing and promotional purposes, while tourists often navigate through the official website to gather necessary information for their upcoming trips. With the advancement of business analytics, DMOs may need to exploit the clickstream data generated through their official website to develop more suitable and persuasive strategic marketing and promotional activities. As such, the primary objective of the current study is to show whether clickstream data can successfully identify the trip purposes of a particular user. Using a latent class analysis and multinomial logistic regression, this study found the meaningful and statistically significant variations in webpage visits among different trip purpose groups (e.g., weekend getaways, day-trippers, and other purposes). The findings of this study would provide a foundation for more data-centric destination marketing and management practice.

해양관광 사이트의 전자상거래 지원지능에 대한 실태 및 개선방안 (A Study on the Status Quo and the Improvements of Blue Tourism Websites in the Context of Electronic Commerce)

  • To develop an blue tourism website(BTW) for electronic commerce(EC), information requirements of BTW are defined firstly. We defined information requirements of BTW from two aspects, i.e., front office and back office. Information requirements for front office were derived by consumer purchasing decision process. And information requirements for back office were derived by tourism value chain. Total 29 functions are identified as critical EC related functions of BTW. Among them, 25 functions were investigated into BTW. BTWs were searched by search engines - Yahoo and Empas - to Korean websites. There are 12 specialized BTWs, except one cyber museum website. For 12 websites, 25 functions were probed. By the results, in need recognition stage of blue tourism, only weather information was provided in most websites. In information search stage of blue tourism, package recommendation and various contents were provided in most websites. In consumption stage of blue tourism, traffic information were provided in most websites. And in after - sales service stage of blue tourism, bulletin board function was implemented in most websites. The rest of the functions were scarcely implemented. On the whole, it was concluded that most EC related functions of BTW in Korea were not implemented properly. To improve the status quo, it is expected in the dimension of individual website, that marketing planning, customized service, intelligent service, reinforcing purchasing assistance functions, customer relationship management, and escrow service etc. need to be implemented. And it is expected in the dimension of blue tourism industry, that standardizing product catalog, security assistance policy, information sharing by industrial database, finding referral model of BTW, elevating information mind, revising related laws etc. are needed.

Technological elements required for the development of culture tourism homepage are use, contents, structure, linkage, search, and appearance. Tourism information service provides many conveniences to tourists, and help to maximize profits and additional income for urban tourism.

  • 본 논문에서는 관광의 1차적인 정보원으로서의 홈페이지와 관광홍보물의 언어학적 전환의 특징을 살펴보고자 한다. 즉 관광관련 사이트의 한국어 원문과 영어 번역물을 비교하면서 관광정보 텍스트가 올바르게 언어전환 되었는지 점검하고 나아가 전환된 영어번역물과 한국어 원문을 대조하면서 번역물에서 발생하는 언어규약과 의사소통의 특징을 살펴본다. 특히 한국어와 영어는 언어유형에서 대조적인 언어로서 번역을 통해 전환되었을 때 특이한 담화의 양상을 보인다. 즉 한국어에 비해 영어표현은 직설적이고 우회적인 표현을 피하는 경향이 있다. 또한 영어번역본에서는 영어 화자위주로 언어가 변형되어 표현됨을 주시할 수 있다. 이것은 영어를 사용하는 언어군에서 흔히 발생하는 양상으로 광의의 문화간의 차이로 간주될 수 있다. 따라서 외국관광객의 1차적 정보원으로서의 관광웹사이트는 관광정보를 제공하는 동시에 목적지의 문화를 간접적인 형태로 표현함으로써 사회적 이미지 형성과 문화간 차이를 대변하며 커뮤니케이션의 일환으로서 공손의 원칙과 Grice의 원칙을 준수하고 있다.

  • 지중해 지역은 다양한 관광자원으로 인하여 매년 전 세계의 수많은 관광객들이 방문하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 아랍의 봄 등과 같은 특정 사건이 이러한 지중해 지역의 관광에 어떻게 영향을 미치는가를 분석하는 것이다. 세부적으로 사진 공유 웹 사이트인 파노라미오에서 추출한 지오태그 사진 데이터를 기반으로 위치 및 시간정보를 추출하여 밀도지도를 제작한다. 그리고 이 밀도지도를 이용하여 특정 사건이 지중해 관광에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 사진 공유 사이트에서 지중해 지역 관련 사진들의 위치 및 시간 정보를 이용하여 데이타베이스를 구축한 후에, GIS 도구의 기능을 활용하여 밀도 분석 및 밀도 지도를 생성한다. 그리고 이 밀도 지도를 기반으로 지중해 관광을 아랍의 봄 사건을 기준으로 이전과 진행, 이후로 구분하여 시각적으로 분석한다.
