  • To increase accurateness and reliability of the evaluation of power tool vibration transmitted to an operator, it is necessary to measure grip and feed forces during the measurement of hand-transmitted vibration. In the study a system was invented to measure the vibration and the grip and/or feed force, which consists of a measurement handle and a PC with data acquisition system and the software. Strain gauges and an accelerometer were mounted on the handle for the simultaneous measurement of the forces and the vibration. The program in the system makes it possible to monitor the grip and feed force during the tool operation so that the operator keeps the applying forces within the pre-determined range. Investigating the vibration total values, frequency-weighted root mean square accelerations at the handle, obtained at various conditions with control of the grip and feed force showed more consistency than those measured without force control. By using the system the experimenter can reduce uncertainty of the measured vibration.

  • Grid-connected inverters should satisfy a certain level of total harmonic distortion (THD) to meet harmonics standards, such as IEEE 519 and P1547. The output quality of an inverter is typically degraded due to grid voltage harmonics, dead time effects, and the device's turn-on/turn-off delay, which all contribute to increasing the THD value of the output. The use of a harmonic controller is essential to meet the required THD value for inverter output under a distorted grid condition. In this study, an improved feedforward harmonic compensation method is proposed to effectively eliminate low-order harmonics in the inverter current to the grid. In the proposed method, harmonic components are directly compensated through feedforward terms generated by the proportional resonant controller with the grid current in a stationary frame. The proposed method is simple to implement but powerful in eliminating harmonics from the output. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation using PSIM software and experiments with a 5 kW single-phase grid-connected inverter.

  • Objective: Manual therapy is a commonly utilized approach in managing chronic pain, but its specific impact on pain catastrophizing remains uncertain. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the effects of manual therapy on pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in electronic databases to identify relevant studies published from 2014 onwards. Studies that evaluated the impact of manual therapy on pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain were incorporated. The risk of bias in the selected studies was evaluated using the Cochrane tool for risk of bias in qualitative analysis. For the quantitative analysis, RevMan 5.4 software was utilized, employing a random-effects model as the analysis model. The effect measure used in the analysis was the standardized mean difference (SMD). Results: In total, 26 studies were collected, and following the screening process, three of them were incorporated into the final analysis. The included studies involved a total of 153 patients with chronic pain. The interventions comprised various manual therapy techniques targeting different areas of the body. Pain catastrophizing and pain intensity were the primary outcomes of interest. The meta-analysis revealed a significant reduction in pain catastrophizing scores following manual therapy intervention compared to control conditions (SMD = -0.91, 95% CI: -1.25 to -0.58). However, heterogeneity between the studies was observed. Conclusions: Despite the limited quantity and heterogeneity of studies, it has been demonstrated that manual therapy intervention is effective in reducing pain catastrophizing in individuals with chronic pain.

  • Background: Cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin widely used for empiric treatment of severe infections. Neurotoxicity by cefepime have been reported due to γ-aminobutyric acid A receptor inhibition or other mechanisms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for cefepime-induced neurotoxicity between group showing cefepime-induced neurotoxicity and group without neurotoxicity. Methods: From Jan 2005 to June 2010, a total of 2,461 patients (older than 20) who used cefepime were considered in this study. We compared patients who developed cefepime-induced neurotoxicity (patient group, n=21) to patients who had no cefepime-induced neurotoxicity (control group, n=31). We analyzed demographic, underlying diseases, and metabolic parameters before cefepime treatment and during cefepime treatment between the two groups. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18 software. Results: Of the total 2461 patients, 21 (0.85%) were diagnosed with cefepime-induced neurotoxicity. Impaired glomerular filtration rate (GFR at 15-30 ml/min) before cefepime use were significantly (P<0.05) higher risk for developing cefepime-induced neurotoxicity in patient group compared to that in the control group. Age, sex, and other metabolic parameters except GFR before and during, usage of cefepime did not show any statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusion: The present study revealed that cefepime-induced neurotoxicity was prone to develop in patients with impaired renal function before cefepime usage.
