  • This study was undertalien to investigate the effects of dietary protein sources on protein, lipid, Ca. metabolism and immune response in college women (20), 16 of whom had Jupito constitutions and 4 had Hespero constitutions based on Kwon's theory . They were divided into 3 groups according to the main dietary protein source ; Beef group, Yellow tailrunner group and Soybean durd group. The menu of experimental diet of 3 group were same except their main dietary protein source(beef, yellow tailrunner, soybean curd). They were fed experimental diet for 4 days and their food intake was not restricted. Beef group in Jupito constitutions and yellow tailrunner group in Hespero constitutions were expected to present better effects than the other groups, because beef and yellow tailrunner are good for Jupito constitutions and Hespero constitutions, respectively. Results of Beef group in Jupito constitutions and Hespero constitutions, respectively. Results of Beef group in Jupito constitutions and yellow tailrunner group in Hespero constitutions were as following. 1) Calcium retention rate, Calcium apparent digestibility, serum Complement 3 concentration and LDL+ VLDLconcentration were higher in both groups. 2) Serum HDL concentration and immunoglobulin G concentration were lower in both groups than in the other groups. According to the main dietary protein sources, noted results were as following. 1) Serum total lipid and total cholesterol concentration were the significantly lowest in Soybean curd group. 2) Nitrogen retention rate was the significantly highest in Beef group.

  • Baker's yeast was disrupted in a 1.4-L stainless steel horizontal bead mill under a continuous recycle mode using 0.3 mm diameter zirconia beads as abrasive. A single pass in continuous mode bead mill operation liberates half of the maximally released protein. The maximum total protein release can only be achieved after passaging the cells 5 times through the disruption chamber. The degree of cell disruption was increased with the increase in feeding rate, but the total protein release was highest at the middle range of feeding rate (45 L/h). The total protein release was increased with an increase in biomass concentration from 10 to $50\%$(w/v). However, higher heat dissipation as a result of high viscosity of concentrated biomass led to the denaturation of labile protein such as glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH). As a result the highest specific activity of G6PDH was achieved at biomass concentration of $20\%$(ww/v). Generally, the degree of cell disruption and total protein released were increased with an increase in impeller tip speed, but the specific activity of G6PDH was decreased substantially at higher impeller tip speed (14 m/s). Both the degree of cell disruption and total protein release increased, as the bead loading increased from 75 to $85\% (v/v)$. Hence, in order to obtain a higher yield of labile protein such as G6PDH, the yeast cell should not be disrupted at biomass concentration and impeller tip speed higher than $20\%(w/v)$ and 10 m/s, respectively.

  • The concentration of total protein during the metamorphosis of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella $H\ddot{u}bner$ was measured using micro-Kjeldahl method by Oser(1965). Healthy specimens were chosen as samples at each developmental stages: the 1st instar larva, the 3rd inster larva, final instar larva, pupae 2, 6, 10 days and the adult 1 day. The total protein concentration decreased gradually until the two day pupal stage and increased at the six day pupal stage. In the one day dault stage, the concentration reached a maximum. In conclusion, changes of total protein concentation through the course of the physiological cycle form a U-shaped curve when graphed against the histolysis of larval organs and the histogenesis of adult organs. In view of controlling pest, the U-shaped pattern of physiological activity indicates that control will be the most effective at the time of the most physiological weakness manifested at the two day pupal stage.

  • Several authors reported that vegetable proteins cause to decrease serum cholesterol and reported the effect of limiting amino acid balance in dietary protein on the blood component. This study was designed to observe growth rate and blood component in 1% cholesterol-fed male rats intake pure isolated soy proteins and methionine for 4 weeks. The diets were supplemented with either 20% casein or isolated soy protein as dietary protein sources and methionine as limiting amino acid of isolated soy protein and casein protein. The results were as follows; 1) The body weight gain was the greatest in casein groups. 2) Serum total cholesterol concentration was significantly increased by casein groups and slightly decreased by isolated soy protein groups. 3) Serum HDL-cholesterol concentration was significantly increased by isolated soy protein groups than control group. 4) Serum total lipid and triglyceride concentrations were significantly decreased by isolated soy protein groups than control group. 5) Serum glucose concentration was significantly increased by isolated soy protein plus 0.8% methionine than control group. 6) Serum total protein and albumin concentrations were significantly increased by all experimental diets groups than control group. Especially, casein groups were the most increased in all experimental diets groups.

  • This study was performed to observe how soy protein and calcium in rats fed unsaturated fat-enriched diet affect the total lipid and cholesterol contents of blood and tissues male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing approximately 220g were fed four purified diets which contained 18% (w/w) corn oil, 1% (w/w) cholesterol, two sources of protein : casein or isolated soy protein (ISP) and two levels of dietary calcium : 0.1% or 1.0%, first for four weeks (Expt. 1) and second for eight weeks (Expt. 2). The contents of total lipid, cholesterol and triglyceride in blood, liver, heart and feces were determined. After four weeks feeding, the serum lipid and cholesterol concentration was not significantly different among the groups. After eight weeks feeding, these concentrations were significantly lower in ISP-High calcium group. The serum lipid concentration was influenced by dietary protein sources and calcium levels. These results indicated that the hypolipidemic effects of soy protein and high calcium intake were partly due to decrease in lipid absorption and these effects were not detected at 4 weeks feeding but 8 weeks feeding.

  • The effects of godulbaegi(Ixeris sonchifolia H.) powder on body weight gain, lipid and protein concentrations, and enzyme activities were studied in growing male rats for 4 and 8 week. The fats (Sprague-Dawley) were fed diets containing 5% godulbaegi or without. The body weght gain, food efficiency ratio, protein efficiency ratio, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit value of rats fed godulbaegi diet were similar to the control diet. The ratio of spleen weight to body weight in godulbaegi group for 8 weeks was greater than in that of control group, but they were similar both feeding groups in liver and kidney. The concentrations of the total lipid and triglyceride in serum were increased in rats fed godulbaegi diet for 4 week than in those fed control diet, but those were decreased in rats fed godulbaegi diet for 8 week than in those fed the control diet. The concentrations of the phospholipid, total cholestrol and HDL-cholestrol in serum were decreased in rats fed godulbaegi diet for 8 week than in those fed control diet. The HDL-cholestrol/total cholestrol ratio and athergenic index were similar to both diet groups. There were no differences in growth, serum total protein, albumin concentrations, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities between rats fed godulbaegi diet and those fed the control diet.

  • In order to elucidate the effect of phenobarbital (PB) on the nonlinear pharmacokinetic behavior of naproxen (NAP), we compared the dose dependent hepatic intrinsic clearance, biliary excretion and protein binding of NAP in control rats to those in the PB-pretreated rats which were intraperitoneally pretreated with PB sodium (75 mg/kg) once a day for four days. NAP was injected via femoral (1.5 mg/kg) and portal(0.25, 0.5, 1.5, 15 and 30 mg/kg) vein to the control and PB-pretreated rats, respectively. And also, we measured the plasma free fraction of NAP with the equilibrium dialysis method and the biliary excreted total amounts of NAP in both rats. Plasma free fraction of NAP was decreased in lower concentration than $150\;{\mu}g/ml$ of NAP due to PB pretreatment. In higher concentration, however, plasma free fraction was increased. These in vitro results suggest that the total protein concentration was increased but the total binding capacity of NAP to protein was decreased by PB-pretreatment. The total plasma clearance and the hepatic intrinsic clearance of NAP had similar values in both groups, respectively. And, both clearances of NAP were significantly increased by PB-pretreatment. Even though the plasma free fractions of NAP in both groups were constantly remained within the concentration range according to the increase of administration dose, the hepatic intrinsic clearances of NAP were significantly increased in both groups with the increased dose. And, the biliary excreted total amounts of NAP were significantly increased by PB-pretreatment at the lower dose, but decreased at the higher dose. These in vivo results suggest that NAP represents the uncommon nonlinear pharmacokinetic behavior that the hepatic intrinsic clearance was enhanced with the increased dose, and that PB enhances further the hepatic intrinsic clearance of NAP with the increased dose due to its enzyme induction effect.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mud flat bacteria origin protease supplementation by crude protein level on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, total protein and BUN (blood urea nitrogen) concentration in broilers. A total of four hundred eighty broilers were randomly allocated into four treatments with six replications for five weeks. Dietary treatments included 1) high crude protein diet, 2) high crude protein diet + 0.1% protease, 3) low crude protein diet and 4) low crude protein diet + 0.1% protease. During the entire experimental period, weight gain and feed/gain were improved in treatments of high crude protein diets and low crude protein diet added protease compared with treatment of low crude protein diet without protease (P<0.05). Similarly, DM digestibility was also improved in treatments of high crude protein diets and low crude protein diet added protease compared with treatment of low crude protein diet without protease (P<0.05). N digestibility was improved in treatment of high crude protein diet added protease compared with low crude protein diet without protease (P<0.05). Total protein concentration in blood was increased in treatment of high crude protein diet without protease compared with other treatments (P<0.05). In conclusion, mud flat origin protease was effective in improving weight gain, feed/gain and nutrient digestibility, and influenced blood total protein in broilers.
