Design and optimization of 900kW class PMSG, based on Unison U50 model (Unison U50 직접구동 영구자석 발전기를 기반으로 한 900kW급 동기발전기 설계 및 최적화)

  • POSTECH Graduate School of Wind Energy is trying to upgrade the PMSG used for Unison U50 to 900 kW class. Intensive optimization efforts are carried out the reduce the axial size and total weight of the generator while increasing the rated output to 900 kW. The generator features 3.32m stator inner radius, 671mm stator length, 84 pole, 25 rated rpm and 31.6kN/$m^2$ shear force density. To reduce the gross weight, the stronger magnetic material is applied with optimal magnet size resulting lowest cogging torque. Also, instead of stator skewing the stator, the magnet position along the circumference is optimized to further reduce the cogging torque. This scheme eliminates the stator skewing procedure and may enhance the productivity. This method also reduces the total harmonic distortion. In this report, upgrade method, no-load line to line voltage and phase voltage, cogging torque, loss calculations and thermal analysis are presented.

Behavior of the Vortex Flux in a Polycrystalline $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$Superconductor in a Rotational Experiment (회전실험에서의 다결성 $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ 초전도체내의 vorterx flux의 거동)

  • Rotational Magnetization-vector measurements have been performed on a polycrystalline $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ sample in field-cooled condition at 4.2 K. The experimental results show that vortex flux density(B) consists of 3 groups :(1) a weak pinning part ($B_w$) which stays at a fixed angle relative to the magnetic field f(H) ; (2) a strong pining part($B_s$) which rotates rigidly with the sample and has same magnitude with the sample rotation, and(3) and intermediated pining part ($B_i$) which rotates rigidly with the sample, but whose magnitude changes with the sample rotation Our results have been explained in terms of a distribution in the strength of the vortex pinning torque and a repulsive intervortex torque.

High Efficiency Drive of Dual Inverter Driven SPMSM with Parallel Split Stator

  • This paper describes dual inverter drive for a fractional-slot concentrated winding permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). PMSMs are widely used in many applications from small servo motors to few megawatts generators thanks to its high efficiency and torque density. Especially, fractional-slot concentrated winding PMSM is very popular in the applications where wide operation range is required because it shows very wide constant power speed ratios. High speed operation, however, requires lots of negative daxis current for reducing back-EMF regardless of output torque. Field weakening current does not contribute to the torque generation in surface mounted PMSM case and causes inverter and copper loss. To reduce the losses from field weakening current, this paper proposes PMSM with split stator and parallel dual inverter drive. Proposed parallel dual inverter drive reduces back-EMF and enables efficient drive at high speed and light load situation. Control strategy of proposed dual inverter system is established through loss analysis and simulation. Proposed concept is verified with practical experiment.

  • Reduction of the critical current density ($J_c$) for STT magnetization switching is most important issue of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) based MRAM. This report describes how to decrease the Jc and will introduce the recent research progresses of STT-MRAM devices with material engineering and structural improvement, respectively.

  • 본 논문에서는 Radial flux density($B_r$)를 고려하여 매입형 영구자석 동기 전동기(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, IPMSM)에서 진동, 소음 발생의 원인이 되는 코깅토크를 최적화하는 방법을 제시한다. Maxwell Stress Method에 의하면 토크는 $B_r$에 비례한다. 따라서 $B_r$과 토크의 상관관계를 이용하여 코깅토크를 저감시켰다. 코깅토크가 가장 큰 회전자의 위치에서 회전자 표면의 $B_r$을 확인한 후 에 노치(Notch)를 적용할 위치를 선정하였다. 그리고 제안한 방법이 매입형 영구자석 동기 전동기 모델에서 효과적으로 코깅토크를 저감시키는 것을 유한요소법을 통해 검증하였다.

  • In this article, a special kind of axial flux permanent magnet machine has proved to be suitable for high torque and low speed applications. An innovative design of the machine has been proposed in order to make the machine suitable for traction applications by means of field-weakening. The aim of this paper is to analyze, in general terms, the basic equations that describe the operating conditions of such machines. Optimal sizes for design can be obtained by calculating the power density and the air-gap flux density, etc.

  • This paper presents a characteristic analysis method for an air gap flux density of axial-flux type brushless dc (BLDC) motor. The magnetic flux density for the torque, and vertical force characteristics is calculated by using analytical method, based on the concept of magnetic charge. The calculated results by the presented method is compared with those by 3 dimensional finite element method (3D FEM). Using the presented method, the characteristics of single and double sided axial-flux type BLDC motors are investigated through distributions of air gap flux density.

  • Among the next generation memory, MRAM (Magnetic Random Access Memory) is worthy of notice for substituting the preexisting memory thanks to its non-volatile property and other advantages. Recently perpendicular MRAM and spin transfer torque MRAM techniques are under active investigation to realize a high density and low power consumption. As a result, there are increasing of patents applications for high density, low current density for magnetization switching and high thermal stability. In this paper, we analyze the trend of patent applications and registrations about MRAM and propose a direction of future investigation.

Analytical Prediction and Experimental Verification of Electromagnetic Performance of a Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Motor having a Fractional Slot/Pole Number Combination

  • This paper presents an analytical prediction and experimental verification of the electromagnetic performance of a parallel magnetized surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) motor having a fractional number of slots per pole combination. On the basis of a two-dimensional (2-D) polar coordinate system and a magnetic vector potential, analytical solutions for flux density produced by the permanent magnets (PMs) and stator windings are derived. Then, analytical solutions for back-electromotive force (emf) and electromagnetic torque are derived from these field solutions. The analytical results are thoroughly validated with 2-D nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis results. Finally, the experimental back-emf and electromagnetic torque measurements are presented to test the validity of the analysis.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of IPMSM(Interior-type Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) are simulated using 2-Dimensional finite element method. This paper deals with the following characteristics: Air gap flux density considering skew. Back E.M.F, Torque and Inductance. Torque is calculated using current angle which is known from the controller. Direct axis inductance and Quadrature axis inductance are also calculated using energy perturbation method. This results can be used for the computation of the saliency of IPMSM. Computed results are found in satisfactory agreement with experimental ones.
