  • In this paper, an engine-CVT integrated control algorithm is suggested by considering the inertia torque and the CVT ratio change response lag in acceleration. In order to compensate for drive torque time delay due to CVT response lag, two algorithms are presented: (1) an optimal engine torque compensation algorithm, and (2) an optimal engine speed compensation algorithm. Simulation results show that the optimal engine speed compensation algorithm gives better engine operation around the optimal operation point compared to the optimal torque compensation while showing nearly the same acceleration response. The performance of the proposed engine-CVT integrated control algorithms are compared with those of conventional CVT control, and It is found that optimal engine operation can be achieved by using integrated control during acceleration, and improved fuel economy can be expected while also satisfying the driver's demands.

  • This study investigates a high-accuracy alternate QD model to estimate the characteristics of induction motor under light loads. To demonstrate the usefulness of the alternate QD model, a maximum torque per amp (MTPA) control based on the alternate model is shown to outperform MTPA control based on the standard QD model. The experimental study conducted in this work exhibits that the MTPA control based on the alternate QD model tracks torque commands between 20 Nm and 30 Nm with 5% error, whereas the MTPA control based on the standard QD model generates torques lower by over 23% compared with the aforementioned torque commands. This result indicates that the alternate QD model is a highly accurate model for induction motors under light loads.

  • Sensorless PMSM is much studied for the industrial applications and home appliances because, a mechanical sensor reduces reliability and increases cost. Two types of instantaneous torque controls are basically used for high performance variable-speed a.c. drive : vector control and direct torque control. This paper investigates speed sensorless control of PMSM using direct torque control. The switching of inverter is determined from SVPWM realizing the command voltage which is obtained by flux error and measured current without d-q transformation. The rotor speed is estimated through adaptive observer with feedback loop. The simulation and experimental results indicate good performances.

  • In a independent joint servo control of robots, the performance of the control is influenced greatly by the joint interaction torques including Coriolis and centrifugal forces. These act as disturbance torques to the control system. As the speed of the robot increases, the effect of this disturbance torque increase, and makes the high speed - high precision control more difficult to achieve. In this paper, a solution to the optimal path placement problem is presented that minimizes the joint disturbance torque during a straight line motion. The proposed method is illustrated using computer simulation. The proposed solution method can be applied to the class of robots that are controlled by independent joint servo control, which includes the vast majority of industrial robots.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. The paper is proposed maximum torque control of IPMSM for high speed drive. The control method is applicable over the entire speed range and considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $^i{_d}$ for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system for high speed drive, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by experiment.

  • In regenerative mode of an IPMSM control system without a bi-directional DC-DC converter, the 3-phase PWM inverter charges the battery. At this time, the regenerative torque reference for braking must output the proper torque reference to charge the battery. This paper proposed a regeneration control method that controls the voltage and current of the battery through CC-CV control at the regenerative braking torque corresponding to the driver's brake control.

  • In this paper, a motor control algorithm for performing a mode change without an integrated starter generator (ISG) is suggested for the automatic transmission-based hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Dynamic models of the HEV powertrains such as engine, motor, and mode clutch are derived for the transient state during the mode change, and the HEV performance simulator is developed. Using the HEV performance bench tester, the characteristics of the mode clutch torque are measured and the motor torque required for the mode clutch synchronization is determined. Based on the dynamic models and the mode clutch torque, a motor torque control algorithm is presented for mode changes, and motor control without the ISG is investigated and compared with the existing ISG control.

  • The predictive speed control (PSC) strategy can realize the simultaneous control of speed and current by using one cost function. As a model-based control method, the performance of the PSC is vulnerable to model mismatches such as load torque disturbances and parameter uncertainties. To solve this problem, this paper presents a robust predictive speed control (RPSC) strategy for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drives. The proposed RPSC uses extended state observers (ESOs) to estimate the lumped disturbances caused by load torque changes and parameter mismatches. The observer-based prediction model is then compensated by using the estimated disturbances. The introduction of ESOs can achieve robustness against predictive model uncertainties. In addition, a modified cost function is designed to further suppress load torque disturbances. The performance of the proposed RPSC scheme has been corroborated by experimental results under the condition of load torque changes and parameter mismatches.
