  • Torque ripple control of brushless DC motor has long been the main issue of the servo drive systems in which the speed fluctuation, vibration and acoustic noise need to be minimized. The vast majority of the methods for suppressing the torque ripple require the Fourier series analysis and either the iterative or least mean square minimization. In this paper, a novel approach based on the d-q-0 reference frame that achieves ripple-free torque control with maximum efficiency is presented. The proposed method optimizes the reference phase current waveforms including even the case of 3-phase unbalanced condition, and the motor winding currents are controlled to track the optimized current waveforms by the delta modulation technique. As a results, the proposed approach provides a simple and yet effectine means for obtaining the optimal motor excitation currents. The validity and applicability of the proposed control scheme are verified through simulations and experimental investigations.

  • The frequencies of principal noise in interior permanent motor originate form two sources. One is torque ripple that is composed of cogging torque, magnetic torque ripple and reluctance torque ripple. The other is induced by natural frequencies. In this paper, the torque ripple and its influence on noise was examined by theoretical analysis. Understanding relation of dynamic characteristics and noise, natural frequencies and mode shapes were obtained by experimentation and operational deflection shape was observed. Finally, the method of predicting frequencies of principal noise was proposed.

  • This study deals with the speed control of an overcentered variable-displacement hydraulic motor on a constant pressure network, which is noted for its high system efficiency fast dynamic response and energy recovery capability. The speed control characteristics of the conventional cascade PI controller are largely affected by load-torque disturbances. To obtain robust speed control despite torque disturbances, the load torque is estimated by an observer based on a mathematical model and compensated for by a feedforward loop. It is shown by experiment that robust speed control may be obtained with the proposed controller. The experimental data agree fairly well with the theoretical analysis.

  • The analysis of the permanent type synchronous motor is performed by using the finite element method (FEM). The optimal design of the permanent magnet is presented for minimizing cogging torque in this paper. The cogging torque is expressed in terms of scalar potential computed by the virtual work formula. The minimization of cogging torque is achieved by using the ( ${\mu}$ + ${\lambda}$ ) Evolution Strategy (ES) and the selected flux densities are used to a constraint.

  • This paper proposes a single-joint optical torque sensor with one body structure. Conventional optical torque sensors consist of three parts, two plates and an elastic structure. They have slightly slipping problem between plates and elastic structure due to the manufacturing tolerance. Since the order of measurement range of optical sensor is about ten micrometers, the slipping problem causes large measurement error, especially in the case of vibrational or high speed plant. This problem does not occur in the proposed design due to the one body structure. The proposed sensor has advantage of low cost, light weight, and small size. And it is easy to design and manufacture. Simulation works that analysis of stress and strain are performed accurately. To demonstrate the performance of proposed sensor, experiments were implemented to compare with a commercial force/torque sensor (ATI Mini45).

  • This paper proposes a new speed sensorless direct torque and flux controlled interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive. Closed-loop control of both the torque and stator flux linkage are achieved by using two proportional-integral (PI) controllers. The reference voltage vectors are generated by a SVM unit. The drive uses an adaptive sliding mode observer for joint stator flux and rotor speed estimation. Global asymptotic stability of the observer is achieved via Lyapunov analysis. At low speeds, the observer is combined with the high frequency signal injection technique for stable operation down to standstill. Hence, the sensorless drive is capable of exhibiting high dynamic and steady-state performances over a wide speed range. The operating range of the direct torque and flux controlled (DTFC) drive is extended into the high speed region by incorporating field weakening. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with the torque characteristics of a AFPM motor excited by permanent magnets. According to relative angle difference of two rotor, torque characteristics are studied. According to varied angle of two rotor, torque ripple and, total torque of AFPM motor is different. For minimum torque ripple, angle of two rotor of AFPM motor are investigated. For this study, we used to Maxwell EM 3D program. A prototype AFPM motor have been assembled and driving power supply are made. Characteristics of magnetical and electrical characteristic are investigated.

  • In this paper, a new torque ripple compensator is proposed. The proposed torque ripple compensator utilizes only speed information, so it can be easily applied to an existing motor drive system by including the algorithm. The stability analysis is discussed. From the discussion, the proper gain selection method, which makes the compensator stable and fast convergent, is also presented. The experimental results are presented and show the torque ripple reduction capability of the proposed scheme.

  • A three dimensional simulation of the fluid flow in an automotive torque converter was conducted adopting the mixing plane model implemented in the computational fluid dynamics program CFD-ACE. The present numerical results for performance characteristics showed a good agreement with the experimental results. In the flow of the torque converter, recirculating flow regimes were found mostly at the suction side of each element, which caused the performance decrease. The recirculating flow can be minimized by the optimization of the blade geometries.
