  • This letter presents an angular minimum spanning tree (AMST) algorithm for topology control in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks. The AMST algorithm builds up an MST for every angular sector of a given degree around each node to determine optimal transmission power for connecting to its neighbors. We demonstrate that AMST preserves both local and network-wide connectivity. It also improves robustness to link failure and mitigates transmission power waste.

  • The Hausdorff topology induced by a fuzzy metric space under more weak assumptions is investigated in this paper. Another purpose of this paper is to obtain the Banach contraction theorem in fuzzy metric space based on a natural concept of Cauchy sequence in fuzzy metric space.

  • The shape optimization of a Thomson coil actuator used in an arc eliminator is done for fast response by adopting topology modification method. The performance of the actuator is analyzed by using an equivalent circuit method. Both shape optimization and performance analysis are accomplished based on the segmentation of plate. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by the comparison of results before and after the shape optimization.

  • This paper suggests a control method for efficient topology/parameter evolution in a bond-graph-based GP design framework that automatically synthesizes designs for multi-domain, lumped parameter dynamic systems, We adopt a hierarchical breeding control mechanism with fitness-level-dependent differences to obtain better balancing of topology/parameter search - biased toward topological changes at low fitness levels, and toward parameter changes at high fitness levels. As a testbed for this approach, an eigenvalue assignment problem, which is to find bond graph models exhibiting minimal distance errors from target sets of eigenvalues, was tested and showed improved performance for various sets of eigenvalues.

  • This paper presents a hybrid WDM/TDM channel acess protocol for high speed WDM networks based on passive double star topology. In the proposed scheme, all nodes in a network are splitted into groups forming passive double star topology and each node has a tunable transmitter and a fixed receiver. WDM channels are allocated to the groups, which are used as home channels to transmit or receive packets. TDM frames of the WDM channel are composed of the same number of slots as that of groups, and all nodes in a group transmit packets simultaneously at each slot. The proposed scheme reduces the system complexity and the number of the required WDM channels. It was proved that the proposed protocol is less sensitive to the propagation delay and maintaining its superior transmission performance by employing the efficient transmission schedule based on passive double star topology.

  • In this paper, topology optimization (TO) is applied to find a new configuration for the perforated steel plate shear wall (PSPSW) based on the maximization of reaction forces as the objective function. An infill steel plate is introduced based on an experimental model for TO. The TO is conducted using the sensitivity analysis, the method of moving asymptotes and SIMP method. TO is done using a nonlinear analysis (geometry and material) considering the buckling. The final area of the optimized plate is equal to 50% of the infill plate. Three plate thicknesses and three length-to-height ratios are defined and their effects are investigated in the TO. It indicates the plate thickness has no significant impact on the optimization results. The nonlinear behavior of optimized plates under cyclic loading is studied and the strength, energy and fracture tendency of them are investigated. Also, four steel plates including infill plate, a plate with a central circle and two types of the multi-circle plate are introduced with equal plate volume for comparing with the results of the optimized plate.

  • A material mixing method to obtain an optimal topology for a structure in a thermal environment was suggested. This method is based on Evolutionary Structural Optimization(ESO). The proposed material mixing method extends the ESO method to a mixing several materials for a structure in the multicriteria optimization of thermal flux and thermal stress. To do this, the multiobjective optimization technique was implemented. The overall efficiency of material usage was measured in terms of the combination of thermal stress levels and heat flux densities by using a combination strategy with weighting factors. Also, a smoothing scheme was implemented to suppress the checkerboard pattern in the procedure of topology optimization. It is concluded that ESO method with a smoothing scheme is effectively applied to topology optimization. Optimal topologies having multiple thermal criteria for a printed circuit board(PCB) substrate were presented to illustrate validity of the suggested material mixing method. It was found that the suggested method works very well for the multicriteria topology optimization.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient full mesh topology aggregation method in PNNI networks. The proposed scheme can search multi-links efficiently using the depth priority method based on hop count instead of searching the all links. To do this, we propose a modified line segment algorithm using two line segment method that represents two points which consist of delay-bandwidth pair to reduce topology information and provide a flexibility to the multiple-links aggregation. And we apply it to current full mesh topology aggregation. To evaluate performance of the proposed scheme, we compare/analyze the current method with the proposed scheme with respect to call success rate, access time and crank back rate. The result is that the proposed scheme is better than the current scheme in performance.
