Orographic effect is one of the important factors to induce Local circulations and to make atmospheric turbulence, so it is necessary to use the exact topographic data for prediction of local circulations. In order to clarify the sensitivity of the spatial resolution of topography data, numerical simulations using several topography data with different spatial resolution are carried out under stable and unstable synoptic conditions. The results are as follows: 1) Influence of topographic data resolution on local circulation tends to be stronger at simulation with fine grid than that with coarse grid. 2) The hight of mountains in numerical model become mote reasonable with high resolution topographic data, so the orographic effect is also emphasized and clarified when the topographic data resolution is higher. 2) The higher the topographic resolution is, the stronger the mountain effect is. When used topographic data resolution become fine, topography in numerical model becomes closer to real topography. 3) The topographic effect tends to be stronger when atmospheric stability is strong stable. 4) Although spatial resolution of topographic data is not fundamental factor for dramatic improvement of weather prediction accuracy, some influence on small scale circulation can be recognized, especially in fluid dynamic simulation.
The Government confirmed the action planning of digital mapping project for major thematic maps based on ‘Revised Plan for The Development of the National Geographic Information System’(NGIS). Mapping for major thematic maps was begun in 1998 when digital mapping project for topographic maps finished due to the delay of the action planning, and will selectively have produced the essential digital thematic maps according to the frequency of usage. The models of topographic-cadastral maps and administrative boundary maps around Suwon were produced in accordance with the presented draft. We presented specification for production of the most appropriate topographic-cadastral maps and administrative boundary maps through the analysis of the process of production, discussion and error check, and correction of the produced topographic-cadastral maps and administrative boundary maps. And we could make it easier to develop digital mapping project of topographic-cadastral maps and administrative boundary maps effectively by presenting the strategy for data input and maintenance, the cost model for carrying out the digital thematic map production, digital topographic maps, and the supplement of data model and data format. Topographic-cadastral maps has a wide range of usage but a lot of difficulties in the process of production and map update under use. So it seems that the study on users, university, private sector and municipal self-government must follow for promoting the use of topographic-cadastral maps.

Nowadays, flood hazard maps have been generated to minimize the loss of human lives due to flooding domestically. To generate the flood hazard maps, LiDAR data have mainly been used to provide topographic data. The LiDAR data requires, however, relatively higher cost and processing time. Therefore, the needs of validating possible use of topographic maps as an alternative source of LiDAR, which have been already existed from the NGIS project over the nation, has been raised. In this background, this study has generated a DEM over City of Kuri as a pilot study using conventional 1:1,000 and 1:5,000 topographic maps emphasizing the linkage of river profile with breakline processing algorithm to build the essential topographic data as accurate as possible. The results showed that the RMSE from topographic maps and LiDAR were 3.49 and 2.282 meter, respectively. Further study needs to be made to decide possible use of topographic maps instead of LiDAR including more easier updating of topographic maps to support flood map generation. In addition, 1:1,000 topographic mapping, which is limited to the urban areas so far, needs to be extended to the river areas.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. The topographic and geologic data and satellite image were collected, processed and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The used factors that influence landslide occurrence are topographic slope, topographic aspect topographic curv ature and distance from drainage from topographic database, geology and distance from lineament from the geologic database, land use from TM satellite image and vegetation index value from SPOT satellite image. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by probability - likelihood ratio - method. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data. The validation results showed satisfactory agreement between the hazard map and the existing data on landslide location.

The topographic volume estimation is carried out for the earth work of a construction site and quarry excavation monitoring. The topographic surveying using instruments such as engineering levels, total stations, and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) receivers have traditionally been used and the photogrammetric approach using drone systems has recently been introduced. However, these methods cannot be adopted for inaccessible areas where high resolution satellite images can be an alternative. We carried out experiments using Kompsat-3/3A data to estimate topographic volume for a quarry and checked the accuracy. We generated DEMs (Digital Elevation Model) using newly acquired Kompsat-3/3A data and checked the accuracy of the topographic volume estimation by comparing them to a reference DEM generated by timely operating a drone system. The experimental results showed that geometric differences between stereo images significantly lower the quality of the volume estimation. The tested Kompsat-3 data showed one meter level of elevation accuracy with the volume estimation error less than 1% while the tested Kompsat-3A data showed lower results because of the large geometric difference.
We present a latent variable model-based approach to the analysis of gene expression patterns, coupled with topographic clustering. Aspect model, a latent variable model for dyadic data, is applied to extract latent patterns underlying complex variations of gene expression levels. Then a topographic clustering is performed to find coherent groups of genes, based on the extracted latent patterns as well as individual gene expression behaviors. Applied to cell cycleregulated genes of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the proposed method could discover biologically meaningful patterns related with characteristic expression behavior in particular cell cycle phases. In addition, the display of the variation in the composition of these latent patterns on the cluster map provided more facilitated interpretation of the resulting cluster structure. From this, we argue that latent variable models, coupled with topographic clustering, are a promising tool for explorative analysis of gene expression data.

With the increasing needs for the integrated use of topographic and cadastral data in order to build an efficient geo-spatial information system. it is urgently necessary to research into its solution. The intention of this study is to detect error types of data and to propose adjustment methods for solving the problems caused by integrating topographic and cadastral data. For this purpose a primary integrated data model is created to link attribute data(land management system) and graphic data within cadastral information in the first step. In next, a secondary integrated data model based on the improved method is formed to coincide the graphic data of cadastral map with that of topographic map. At the first, because a numerous error types md sources caused by separate management of graphic and attribute data are easily checked, it is possible to suggest an improved method to correct these errors using the primary integrated data model. In addition, the accuracy in position and area with coordinate transformation method based on multi-block adjustment is more efficient than rubber-sheeting method. As a result, the secondary integrated data model could be built by harmonizing cadastral map with topographic map using the improved solution.

Recently, because of the weather forecasts through the low-resolution data has been limited, the demand of the high-resolution data is sharply increasing. Therefore, in this study, we restore the ultra-high resolution synthetic precipitation and temperature data for 2000-2014 due to small-scale topographic effect using the QPM (Quantitative Precipitation Model)/QTM (Quantitative Temperature Model). First, we reproduce the detailed precipitation and temperature data with 1km resolution using the distribution of Automatic Weather System (AWS) data and Automatic Synoptic Observation System (ASOS) data, which is about 10km resolution with irregular grid over South Korea. Also, we recover the precipitation and temperature data with 1km resolution using the MERRA reanalysis data over North Korea, because there are insufficient observation data. The precipitation and temperature from restored current climate reflect more detailed topographic effect than irregular AWS/ASOS data and MERRA reanalysis data over the Korean peninsula. Based on this analysis, more detailed prospect of regional climate is investigated.

In this study, we propose a method to investigate topographic characteristics by applying machine learning which is an artificial intelligence analysis method based on the spatial data constructed using UAV and the training data created through spatial analysis. This method provides an alternative to the subjective judgment and accuracy of spatial data, which is a problem of existing topographic characteristics survey for officially assessed land price. The analysis method of this study is expected to improve the problems of topographic characteristics survey method of existing field researchers and contribute to more accurate decision of officially assessed land price by providing more objective land survey method.
