Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate oral health-related behaviors of some elementary school students by installation of toothbrushing facility. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed, out by 377 elementary school students with toothbrushing facility, and by 260 elementary school students with no toothbrushing facility in M city from November to December, 2015. The data were analyzed by ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. The questionnaire comprised toothbrushing practice(2 items), satisfaction of toothbrushing facility(1 item), oral health knowledge(4 items), fluoride recognition(1 item), and necessity of fluoride mouthrinse(1 item). Results: The level of oral health knowledge was high in toothbrushing facility school. But toothbrushing practice was higher in school of no toothbrushing facility(63.8%) than the school with toothbrushing facility(49.1%)(p<0.001). The number of brushing times a week was also higher in school of no toothbrushing facility(1.98 times) than the toothbrushing facility school(1.59 times)(p=0.011). The dominant reason for no brushing was not recognition(65.8%) in toothbrushing facility school, lack of places(61.3%) in non toothbrushing facility school. Conclusions: In order to improve the oral health in elementary school students, it is necessary to provide toothbrushing education and toothbrushing facility in elementary schools.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the parents' toothbrushing guidance on the children by operation of toothbrushing room. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 790 parents of first, fourth, and sixth grade students of J elementary school in Changwon from June 1 to 30, 2013. J elementary school did not have toothbrushing room. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (3 items), toothbrushing room operation (3 items), and toothbrushing (7 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: Parents of high school diploma demanded the establishment of toothbrushing room (p<0.05) and parents having undergraduate course tended to want the operation of toothbrushing room (p<0.05) and children's dental health care (p<0.05). Parents within forties tended to have higher concern for their children's toothbrushing (p<0.05) and toothbrushing room operation (p<0.05). They tried to have much interest in their dental health checkup and toothbrushing frequency. Conclusions: The establishment and operation of toothbrushing room is very important to elementary school children. The toothbrushing guidance by parents will enhance children's dental health knowledge and maintain lifelong dental healthcare for the children.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the preparation of toothbrushing and the opinion of teachers in the practice of toothbrushing of elementary school students to provide information on the implementation of school-based toothbrushing programs. Methods : The subjects were 85 elementary school teachers. The statistical package SPSS 18.0 was used to obtain descriptive statistics and ${\chi}^2$-test. Results : Oral health education program and toothbrushing preparation proved to be the most important priority in this study. The barriers to school-based toothbrushing guideance were limit of education time and shortage of space. School-based toothbrushing was related to oral health education program in the meanwhile school without school-based toothbrushing program needed the toothbrushing facilities. About 87.5% of the schools had not equipped with toothbrushing facilities. If the facilities were given, 82.5% of the school would implement the program. Conclusions : The elementary school is the place where the lifelong oral health program is given to the students, so it is very important to promote the school-based toothbtushing nationwide in the future.
This study, As a result of the SPSS WIN 12.0 analysis, significant results were obtained the relationship between tooth brushing behaviors and oral health status of college students (domestic and overseas). If age was 20-23 years old and women were high the correct toothbrushing behaviors. If domestic students was higher in more than 3times toothbrushing, toothbrushing after lunch, toothbrushing, toothbrush replacement within 3months, toothbrush more than 3, received toothbrushing education. Decayed Teeth index is higher if foreign student, toothbrushing after lunch and receive toothbrushing education is 'no', consider selecting toothpaste. Filled Teeth index is higher if the 20-23 years old, female, domestic students, more than 3times toothbrushing, toothbrushing after lunch and receive toothbrushing education is 'no'. Missing Teeth index is the lowest if 20-23 years, toothbrush replacement within 3months. Results were analyzed by multiple regression Y(Decayed Teeth index)=4.541-1.074((Female)+2.359(foreign students). Therefore, this should be made systematic training on proper toothbrushing behavior to improve the oral health of university students.

Objectives: This study was conducted at a request for cooperation through an analysis of the effect of toothbrushing facilities at a public health center in Seongdong-gu. Also, with the aim of furnishing basic data to the proposal of a program for improving the ability of school aged children in managing oral cavities and developing a correct toothbrushing habit, the study conducted an investigation of how toothbrushing facilities affect change in the oral environment management ability and behavior of oral health care. Methods: From among elementary schools located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul the study selected A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities were established and have been operated since 2008, B Elementary School in an adjacent region within the jurisdiction of Seongdong-gu where the demographic environment was similar among schools where toothbrushing facilities were newly established in 2012, and C Elementary School without toothbrushing facilities. Then the study was aimed at first grade students of the schools and an investigation was carried out from April to December 2012. Through a dental checkup, the study evaluated the teeth and periodontal health conditions, and a test of the oral environment management ability was undertaken three times. Regarding change of oral health care behavior, the study carried out a self-recording survey. Results: 1. Concerning decayed and filled tooth(dft) and decayed and filled surface (dfs), A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities have been established and operated from the past showed a relatively lower decayed, missing, and filled teeth index than B Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities were established in 2012 or C Elementary School without toothbrushing facilities; however, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). For CPI, there was no significant difference by school; however, in looking into the difference between boy students and girl students, Code (0) was discovered higher in boy students whereas Code (1) was shown higher in girl students. 2. In the PHP index test in accordance with the existence of toothbrushing facilities before the installation of toothbrushing facilities, for A Elementary School where toothbrushing facilities have been established and operated from the past, the school recorded 4.28 points whereas B Elementary School where the facilities were established in 2012 recorded 3.51 points. Meanwhile C Elementary School without the facilities posted 4.30 points. Therefore there was a statistically significant difference according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities (p<0.05). 3. In a comparison of teeth health care behavior according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities, the number of answers that the respondent did not brush their teeth after lunch over the past one week was higher in B Elementary School and C Elementary School where there were no toothbrushing facilities. Regarding the average number of brushing after lunch for one week, it was discovered higher in A Elementary School (p<0.01). 4. In change of teeth health care behavior before and after the establishment of toothbrushing facilities, the case of answering that the respondents did not brush their teeth after lunch for one week increased more after establishment than before establishment. Also the average number of teeth brushings after lunch for one week decreased further after the establishment of toothbrushing facilities; however, it did not show a significant difference (p>0.05). One of the reasons that they do not brush their teeth, "the lack of a place", decreased significantly after establishment than before establishment (p<0.05), whereas the answer, "because their friends do not brush their tooth" increased greatly after establishment than before establishment; however, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). 5. In the comparison of the degree of knowledge about dental health according to the existence of toothbrushing facilities, the degree of knowledge about dental health was shown significantly higher in A Elementary School with toothbrushing facilities than in B Elementary School and C Elementary School where there were no toothbrushing facilities (p<0.01). Conclusions: Given the above results, it is difficult to attract change in behavior only with an environmental improvement; therefore, it is deemed necessary to develop an educational program that will help children to make a habit of oral health care not only through a school but also through a related policy and financial support of government organizations as well as the construction of the basis of a systematic and consistent cooperative system with relevant organizations.
The purpose of this study was to examine self-esteem and toothbrushing behavior in college students. The research was conducted from August 26 to September 16. 1999. Totally 1003 students consisted of whom 875 in college and 128 in university were surveyed. Questionnaires including period. frequency. method. and time of toothbrushing and self-esteem were obtained. The data were analysed by descriptive statistics. t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and ANOVA. A significant level of statistical difference was 5 percent. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The average score of self-esteem was $28.358\pm4.928$. 2. The average score of toothbrushing behavior $52.63\pm11.12$. 3. 54.8 percent of the students who were surveyed reported that they brushed their teeth after breakfast and after dinner. 42.9 percent did so twice a day. and 50.2 percent did Rolling method. 4. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient between the self esteem and toothbrushing behavior showed a positive correlation(p=.005), 3. The level of self-esteem was significantly varied with toothbrushing period (p=.000), toothbrushing frequency (p=.020)' and toothbrushing time (p=.003). From the above findings. we found out self-esteem might play a significant role in mediating changes in oral health behavior.
Objectives : This study is designed to survey of proper practice of toothbrushing place in elementary school, middle school and high school in some part of Gyeonggi-Do, and will be utilized for toothbrushing place management. Methods : It was randomly selected, 8 elementary schools, 6 middle school and 6 high school in Gyeonggi-do, surveyed whole students. Survey duration was from May 11th to May 20th in 2011. The surveying paper was consisted of questions of general characteristics, right practice of toothbrushing and toothbrushing after lunch etc. It was done under teacher's control. The Data was analyzed with SPSSWIN 18.0. Results : Students did toothbrushing 2 times/day. It wasn't done by Elementary students of 56.3%, middle school students of 68.5%, high school students of 39.3%. It was dominant reason for no brushing that Carrying toothbrush and toothpaste was annoying. When students washed their hands and rinsed their mouth, they used toilet facuet in over than 90% schools. Satisfaction ratio was very low in elementary, middle, high schools. 60% of students wanted to get mouth rinsing place in each school or separately nearby toilet. Conclusions : It was thought by 60% students of elementary, middle, high school that toothbrushing after meals was most important activity. But It was not well done after lunch. When whole student did toothbrushing together, they couldn't use mouthrinsing place comfortablely. There were no keeping places for toothbrushes. So more attention should be payed to make plenty mouthrinsing places and manage them well.
Objectives : This study aims to analyze the tasks, recognition and obstacles in operation of school dental clinics and to examine opinions on installation, operation and prerequisites for toothbrushing facilities. Methods : It conducted a survey t o the persons in charge at 378 school dental clinics in Korea and total 127 sheets, excluding incompletely answered data, were used for analysis by using SPSS 18.0. Results : Two regular dental hygienists visit school dental clinics 2-3 times per week and work 4-6 hours per week on average. Their tasks include oral health education, toothbrushing instruction, oral examination, sending school newsletters, and dental sealants. The obstacles of operation include excessive workload other than the work for the school dental clinic, lack of dentists, and lack of cooperation of principals and teachers in school. The persons in charge think that the chief task of the school dental clinic is the continuous oral health management, and it effectively affects students' oral health improvement. Most of them were for the installation of toothbrushing facilities. They said that it will be effective in students having an adequate toothbrushing habit and their toothbrushing rate increasing higher. They thought that if the school dental clinic is changed to toothbrushing facilities, it will improve students' oral health management. The prerequisites for toothbrushing facilities are the support of manpower in charge, principal's support, and development of operational programs. Conclusions : The most effective function of school dental clinics is constant oral health management. However, when public health doctors are reduced and dental sealants get included in health insurance, the budget of local government will decrease and then it will eventually reduce the work of school dental clinics. Therefore, it is needed to enhance support for school dental clinics or install a toothbrushing facilities rather than a school dental clinic.

Background: Dental caries in preschool children can cause early loss of teeth, reduced masticatory function, malocclusion, and speech disorders, making oral care for preschool children essential. However, because children have a poor ability to perform oral hygiene by themselves, educational tools that help establish correct oral health behaviors are required. This study evaluated the effect of toothbrushing application for kids on dental plaque removal and toothbrushing interest in preschool children. Methods: Seven 5-year-old children enrolled in a daycare center participated in the evaluation, and the same children participated in the experiment twice a week. The Pokémon Smile application (App) was used as an auxiliary application for tooth brushing, and the degree of dental plaque removal on the tooth surface was evaluated by quantitative light-induced fluorescence-digital imaging. After the experiment, children's toothbrushing preferences were investigated through interviews. Results: The levels of AREA R30 and AREA R70 measured after the children's toothbrushing as usual decreased compared to those before toothbrushing; however, the change was not significant. The levels of AREA R30 and AREA R70 measured after using the Pokémon Smile App were significantly reduced compared to those before toothbrushing. Children's interest in brushing their teeth increased by 28.59% after using the Pokémon Smile App. Conclusion: The toothbrushing application for kids effectively removes dental plaque by helping preschool children brush their teeth. It also increased preschool children's interest in tooth brushing. Therefore, an oral health education application would be useful for children who need to develop correct oral care methods and habits.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to identify differences in time, frequency, and methods of toothbrushing according to knowledge acquirement of oral health between first and third year dental hygiene students who had relatively sufficient oral health education and students majoring non-health related field who had less opportunities of oral health education, to emphasize importance and necessity of the education, and to present basic data for development of effective programs of oral health education. Methods : 2,032 dental hygiene students and students majoring non-health related field attending 12 universities in Korea had been selected as subjects and were asked to complete a self-administered survey time, frequency, and methods of toothbrushing. The SPSS 12.0 program was used for statistical analysis of the collected data, and the significance of difference by groups was tested by using chi-square test, the one-way ANOVA and independent t-test. The mean frequency of toothbrushing per day and the rate of toothbrushing before and after meal were analyzed by using of multiple comparisons through the Scheffe test as post hoc test. Results : The rate of toothbrushing after lunch was 60.2% in third year and 39.2% in first year dental hygiene students, 20.3% in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. The mean frequencies per day of dental hygiene students were 3.33 times in third year and 2.85 times in first year dental hygiene students, 2.46 times in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. The rate of toothbrushing after meal among total frequency of toothbrushing per day was 85.36% in third year and 84.81% in first year dental hygiene students, 77.90% in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. As for the methods of toothbrushing, 'Turning up and down' was 68.8% in third year and 43.1% in first year dental hygiene students, 30.6% in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. Conclusions : Oral health education through dental hygiene course may improve the oral environment management of dental hygiene students and oral health education on toothbrushing should be strengthened for the students majoring non-health related field.
