  • In order to reconstruct vehicle-pedestrian collision accidents, this paper presents a fuzzy tool to estimate accurately the impact velocity of the vehicle using parameters which could be easily collectable at the accident scene. The fuzzy rules and membership functions were set up using number of over 200 domestic and foreign data from accidents and empirical tests and 700 data from multibody simulation experiments. The developed fuzzy tool deduces the category of pedestrian trajectory and impact speed of the vehicle using 4 membership functions and 2 logic rules. The membership function of throw distance was differently set according to the deduced category of trajectories. The implemented fuzzy program was validated through comparing with the domestic and foreign empirical data. The output results agree very well in impact velocities of vehicle resulting the accuracy and usefulness of the developed tool in the reconstruction analysis of vehicle-pedestrian collision accidents.

  • This paper suggests a motion compensation technique using GPS/IMU data in order to compensate for phase error caused by undesired motion of radar platform. An actual flight trajectory would be deviate from an ideal straight-constant trajectory with a constant velocity for SAR imaging, due to pitch, roll and yaw motion of aircraft caused by turbulence. This leads to blurred SAR images due to inter-pulse phase errors as well as along-track velocity errors. If the motion compensation is carried out to reduce those errors, SAR image quality can be significantly improved. Simulation results show that the motion compensation technique introduced in this paper is an effective tool to improve SAR image quality against severe motion of radar platform.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the elastic band on ballet arabesque based on kinematics analysis. Methods : To observe the effect of the elastic band, the availability of the elastic band during movement was set as the independent variable, and the dependent variables were set by using factors from two different categories such as motor mechanics and kinematics variables. For motor mechanics variable, the muscle activity and the center of pressure(COP)'s trajectory and velocity were used. Furthermore, the physical angle was used for kinematic variables. Data samples from the experiment was used to understand the correlation between independent and dependent variables while using paired samples t-test as a data analysis tool. Results : After analyzing the result of experiment, the usage of the Elastic band on ballet arabesque movement seemed to increase the activity of the agonistic muscle, which is mainly used for movement, and to improve the stability of the supporting leg by decreasing the trajectory and velocity of the center of pressure(COP). Moreover, the elastic band increased the level of elevation of the stretching leg with reducing the angle of the hip joint that resulted into a more stable movement and furthermore providing more beauty while standing on it. Conclusion : The movement training program while the using elastic band are expected to lead to appropriate muscular development and reduce the muscle imbalance, which usually occurs to dancers, during training with unfamiliar specific movements or strengthening muscular strength for a specific movement. In addition, this work is expected to be used as a training reference to understand and learn the fundamentals of movements of ballet and other dance fields.

  • To automate the polishing process, a polishing robot with two axes which is attached to a machining center with three axes has been developed by our previous research. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the curved surface of die and is able to maintain a constant pneumatic pressure. Therefore, in the case of a curved surface die, the surface roughness to be polished by the system with five axes is improved superior than the surface by a three-axis machining center. However, because the polishing robot was big and heavy, a polishing workspace was limited and then it was difficult to attach the robot to machining center. In this study, the smaller and lighter polishing robot than the previous has been designed to improve defects due to the magnitude and weight of the robot. And the sliding mode control ins applied to polishing robot to improve the tracking performance. To obtain switching parameters of sliding mode control, the signal compression method is used. Code separation program to separate the date for a three-axis machining center and a two-axis polishing robot from a five-axis NC data is improved for users to check conveniently the separated trajectory and to handle many data by using the graphic user interface. To evaluate the polishing performance of the developed robot, the polishing experiment for shadow mask was carried out. The result shows the automatic polishing robot has a good trajectory tracking performance and obtains a good polished workpiece efficiently under recommended polishing conditions.

  • In the performance analysis of a weapon system, the combat effectiveness is difficult to go beyond the conceptual level in the early stages of development. This is especially true in the case of new concept of weapon system that has never existed before. In this study, with the aim of analyzing the effectiveness of small personal guided weapons, the design of the warhead and the detonation test were carried out and the results were analyzed. Afterwards, trajectory of fragments were calculated from the results, and it is applied to the anti-personnel effectiveness logic which is a part of combat simulation tool. At the same time, delivery accuracy logic was constructed from Monte-Carlo simulation with 6-DOF trajectory model. Subsequent simulated experiments were conducted with test scenarios to confirm the simulation logic reflecting the results of the warhead detonation tests for verifying the simulation approach of weapon systems, and it was confirmed that the simulation logic incorporating the results of the warhead detonation tests functioned properly.

  • It is indispensable to use the process and device simulation tool in order to analyze accurately the electrical characteristics of ULSI CMOS devices, in addition to developing and manufacturing those devices. The 3D Monte Carlo (MC) simulation result is not efficient for large-area application because of the lack of simulation particles. In this paper is reported a new efficient simulation strategy for 3D MC ion implantation into large-area application using the 3D MC code of TRICSI(TRansport Ions into Crystal Silicon). The strategy is related to our newly proposed split-trajectory method and ion-splitting method(ion-shadowing approach) for 3D large-area application in order to increase the simulation ions, not to sacrifice the simulation accuracy for defects and implanted ions. In addition to our proposed methods, we have developed the cell based 3D interpolation algorithm to feed the 3D MC simulation result into the device simulator and not to diverge the solution of continuous diffusion equations for diffusion and RTA(rapid thermal annealing) after ion implantation. We found that our proposed simulation strategy is very computationally efficient. The increased number of simulation ions is about more than 10 times and the increase of simulation time is not twice compared to the split-trajectory method only.

  • The development of the high-efficiency machine-tools equipment and new cutting tool materials with high hardness, heat- and wear-resistance has opened the way to application of high-speed cutting process. The basic argument of using of high-speed cutting processes is the reduction of time and the respective increase of machining productivity. In this sense, the spindle units may be regarded as one of the most important units, directly affecting many parameters of high-speed machining efficiency. One of the possible types of spindle units for high-speed cutting is the air-bearing type. In this paper, we propose the mathematical model of the dynamic behavior of the air-bearing spindle. To provide the high-level of speed capacity and spindle rotation accuracy we need the adequate model of "spindle-bearings" system. This model should consider characteristics of the interactions between system components and environment. To find the working characteristics of spindle unit we should derive the equations of spindle axis movement under the affecting factors, and solve these equations together with equations which describe the behavior of lubricant layer in bearing (bearing stiffness equations). In this paper, the three influence coefficients are introduced, which describe the center of spindle mass displacement, angle of shaft rotation around the axes under the unit force application and that under the unit torque application. These coefficients are operated in the system of differential equations, which describes the spindle axis spatial movement. This system is solved by Runge-Kutta method. Obtained trajectories and amplitude-frequency characteristics were then compared to experimental ones. The analysis shows good agreement between theoretical and experimental results, which confirms that the proposed model of air-bearing spindle is correctis correct

  • Since Voyager 1 passed the Heliopause in 2012, it has provided the observations of the charged particles in the local interstellar medium. However, Voyager 1 only provides the information along with its trajectory. In order to understand the global view of the interstellar plasma flow surrounding the Heliopause, we need another tool. When the interstellar plasmas approach the Heliopause, the ions are deflected around the Heliopause due to the draping of the interstellar magnetic field. The draping of the interstellar magnetic field is strongly connected with the shape of the Heliopause. A fraction of the diverted ions exchanges their charges with the undisturbed primary interstellar neutral atoms, and then the ions become neutral atoms called the secondary interstellar neutral atoms. The newly created neutral atoms carry information on the diverted flow of the interstellar ions, and a fraction of them can travel to the Sun. Therefore, the secondary component of the interstellar neutrals is an excellent diagnostic tool to provide important information to constrain the shape of the Heliopause. The secondary interstellar neutrals are observed by Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) at Earth's orbit. Since 2009, two energetic neutral atom cameras on IBEX have measured neutral atoms and it has provided sky maps of neutral atoms. In this presentation, we will discuss the directional distribution of the secondary interstellar neutrals at Earth's orbit. In the sky maps, the primary interstellar neutral gas is seen between $200^{\circ}$ and $260^{\circ}$ in ecliptic longitude and the secondary components are seen in the longitude range of $160^{\circ}-200^{\circ}$. We also present a simplified model of the outer heliosheath to help interpret the observations of interstellar neutrals by the IBEX-Lo instruments. We extract information on the large-scale shape of the Heliopause by comparing the neutral flux measured at IBEX along four different look directions with simple models of deflected plasma flow around hypothetical obstacles of different aspect ratios to the flow. Our comparisons between the model results and the observations indicate that the Heliopause is very blunt in the vicinity of the Heliospheric nose, especially compared to a Rankine half-body or cometary shape.

  • High flexibility and productivity using industrial robots are being achieved in manufacturing lines with off-line robot programmings. A good off-line programming system should have functions of robot modelling, trajectory planning, graphical teach-in, kinematic and dynamic simulations. Simulated results, however, can hardly be applied to on-line tasks until any calibration procedure is accompained. This paper proposes a visual calibration scheme in order to provide a calibration tool for our own off-line programming system of SCARA robots. The suggested scheme is based on the position-based visual servoings, and the perspective projection. The scheme requires only one camera as it uses saved kinematic data for three-dimensional visual calibration. Predicted images are generated and then compared with camera images for updating positions and orientations of objects. The scheme is simple and effective enough to be used in real time robot programming.
