One of the main issues in comparative genomics is to study chromosomal gene order in one or more related species. For this purpose, the whole genome alignment is usually applied to find the horizontal gene transfer, gene duplication, and gene loss between two related genomes. Also it is well known that the novel visualization tool with whole genome alignment is greatly useful for us to understand genome organization and evolution process. There are a lot of algorithms and visualization tools already proposed to find the "gene clusters" on genome alignments. But due to the huge size of whole genome, the previous visualization tools are not convenient to discover the relationship between two genomes. In this paper, we propose AlignScope, a novel visualization system for whole genome alignment, especially useful to find gene clusters between two aligned genomes. This AlignScope not only provides the simplified structure of genome alignment at any simplified level, but also helps us to find gene clusters. In experiment, we show the performance of AlignScope with several microbial genomes such as B. subtilis, B.halodurans, E. coli K12, and M. tuberculosis H37Rv, which have more than 5000 alignment pairs (matched DNA subsequence).

Railway track alignment Standards set a minimum lenght value for straight and circular alignments (art. 5.2.9.), in order to ensure passenger ride comfort in railway vehicles of which dynamic oscillations will thus have to be limited. The transitions between alignments can cause abrupt changes (usually called discontinuities or singular points of the alignment) of curvature, of rate of change of curvature or of rate of change of cant. A passenger is likely to experience effects due to the excitation of the elastic suspension of the vehicle which generates oscillations that are damped as the vehicle moves away from the singularity. The amplitude of these oscillations should be adequately attenuated by the damping of the suspension system within the interval between two successive singular points, especially to avoid resonances. Therefore minimum lengths between two successive singular points are stated in alignment standards. Nevertheless, these nonnative values can be overly conservative in some cases. As an alternative, track alignment designers could try to assess how much the excitation has been attenuated between two successive singular points and thus assess at which point a new singularity may be present without affecting ride comfort. Although such assessment can be made with commercial SW packages which simulate the dynamic behavior of a vehicle considered as a set of rigid bodies interconnected with elastic elements simulating the suspension systems (such as SIMPACK, ADAMS or VAMPIRE), a simplified and user-friendly computation method (based upon the analytical solution of differential equations governing the phenomenon) is made available in this paper to track design engineers, not always used to working with full dynamic models.
This paper proposes a G-BLAST(BLAST using Grid Computing) system, an integrated software package for BLAST searches operated in heterogeneous distributed environment. G-BLAST employed 'database splicing' method to improve the performance of BLAST searches using exists computing resources. G-BLAST is a basic local alignment search tool of DNA Sequence using grid computing in heterogeneous distributed environment. The G-BLAST improved the existing BLAST search performance in gene sequence analysis. Also G-BLAST implemented the pipeline and data management method for users to easily manage and analyze the BLAST search results. The proposed G-BLAST system has been confirmed the speed and efficiency of BLAST search performance in heterogeneous distributed computing.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of neck and shoulder self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media on neck pain, postural alignment, and joint position error in women with chronic neck pain. Methods: The subjects included 20 women that gave consent to participate in the study voluntarily. They performed the self-stretching exercises using audiovisual media was carried out 20 minutes 5 times a week during 3 weeks. Neck disability index (NDI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to measure the functional disability and pain, A pressure pain threshold was measured using an algometer, and a cervical range of motion (CROM) measurement tool was used to measure the range of motion and error of proprioceptive position sense of the cervical spine. To assess posture alignment, forward head angle (FHA), forward shoulder angle (FSA) were measured using image J software. Results: The neck pain intensity was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Neck and shoulder functional disability were a statistically significant difference within group (p<.05). Splenius capitis and upper trapezius pressure pain threshold were statistically significant difference in within group (p<.05). The postural alignment was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The cervical range of motion in neck extension, right and left lateral flexion were statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The joint position error in neck flexion, extension, right and left lateral flexion decreased statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Conclusion: Self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media increased the mobility of the neck, decreased neck pain and joint position error, and improved posture alignment. As a result, there was a positive effect by applying the self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media to people with neck pain. Based on this, it is thought that it can be used as the basis for research related to home training programs for healthy self-management.

The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-rater, inter-rater and test-retest reliability and validity of frontal plane lower extremity alignment estimated from a rasterstereographic method using ABW-Mapper. Eighteen subjects participated in this study. The S angle (stereographic angle-frontal plane lower extremity alignment estimated from a rasterstereographic method) in standing was measured throughout the two sessions with one week interval by two different readers. In the first session, a reader measured S angle twice per subject with a short break in-between. The Q-angle (quadriceps angle) was measured using a standard goniometer from a photography taken through digital camera with the participant standing in the same position as in the S angle measurement. The HKA(hip-knee-ankle) angle was measured from a computer based digital radiograph with the computerized measurement software. Reliability was tested using intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC). Validity was tested using a Pearson's correlation coefficient. Excellent intra-rater(ICC=0.956~0.974), inter-rater(ICC=0.962), test-retest reliability (ICC=0.945) were demonstrated. There were strong negative correlations between S angle and Q-angle (r=-0.739), and between S angle and HKA angle (r=-0.702). Therefore, the S angle measured using a rasterstereographic mapper may be used to as a preliminary or supplementary tool to evaluate and study LE alignment in the frontal plane in relation to HKA angle or Q-angle.

The communication through optical fiber is taking an important role of the expansion of communication network with excellent transmitting rate and quality. As the optical communication is introduced to the backbone network at first and becomes a general communication method of network, the demand of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, and WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) element increases. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important in the fabrication of optical elements. In this paper, the driving mechanism of ultra precision stage is studied with the aim of optimal design of stage. The travel and the resolution of stage are investigated. The hysteresis of the stage is generated because of PZT actuator. The hysteresis and the inverse hysteresis are modeled in X, Y, and Z-axis motion. The input data of desired displacement of the stage according to input voltage is obtained from the inverse hysteresis equation. In the result of experiments with the input data, the errors due to hysteresis are well compensated.

This study is focused on simulation-based dimensional tolerance optimization process (DTOP) to minimize vehicle pulls by reduction of dimensional variation in front suspension system. In previous studies, the effect of tires and wheel alignment sensitivity have mainly been investigated to eliminate vehicle pulls in nominal design condition without allocating optimal tolerance level for selected components, among various factors regarding vehicle pulls such as vehicle design parameters, vehicle weight balance, tires, and environmental factors. Unfortunately, there are wide variations in the real vehicle, and these have impacted actual vehicle pulls, especially wheel alignment effects from suspension geometry variation has not been considered in the previous studies. In the tolerance design of suspension, tolerance variables with the uncertainty such as parts dimensional variation, assembly process, datum position and direction, and assembly tool tolerance has a great influence on the variation of the suspension dimensional performances. This study introduces total vehicle pull prediction model in considering major key factors for vehicle pull sensitivity. The Monte Carlo-based tolerance analysis model using Taguchi robust method is developed to optimize dimensional tolerance parameters, satisfying on the target variation level.

A vision-based blank alignment unit for a press automation line is introduced in this paper. A press is a machine tool that changes the shape of a blank by applying pressure and is widely used in industries requiring mass production. In traditional press automation lines, a mechanical centering unit, which consists of guides and ball bearings, is employed to align a blank before a robot inserts it into the press. However it can only align limited sized and shaped of blanks. Moreover it cannot be applied to a process where more than two blanks are simultaneously inserted. To overcome these problems, we developed a press centering unit by means of vision sensors for press automation lines. The specification of the vision system is determined by considering information of the blank and the required accuracy. A vision application S/W with pattern recognition, camera calibration and monitoring functions is designed to successfully detect multiple blanks. Through real experiments with an industrial robot, we validated that the proposed system was able to align various sizes and shapes of blanks, and successfully detect more than two blanks which were simultaneously inserted.
One of the domestic co-generation plants have undergone excessive vibration problems of turbine attributed to external force for years. The root cause of turbine vibration may be shan alignment problem which sometimes is changed by thermal expansion and external farce, even if turbine technicians perfectly performed it. To evaluate the alignment condition from plant start-up to full load, a strain measurement of turbine and main steam piping subjected to thermal loading is monitored by using strain gages. The strain gages are bonded on both bearing housing adjusting bolts and pipe stoppers which. installed in the x-direction of left-side main steam piping near the turbine inlet in order to monitor closely the effect of turbine under thermal deformation of turbine casing and main steam piping during plant full load. Also in situ load of constant support hangers in main steam piping system is measured by strain gages and its results are used to rebalance the hanger rod load. Consequently, the experimental stress analysis by using strain gages turns out to be very useful tool to diagnose the trouble and failures of not only to stationary components but to rotating machinery in power plants.
