  • In this paper, a new scheme of implicit MRAC is presented for single input single output discrete system. The MRAC can be applied to the nonminimum phase system, too. They have simple structure because the parameters of the controller are estimated directly by changing the plant output equation properly. In this scheme, the observation process is well seperated from the adaptation process, so the adaptation algorithm is derived from the exponentially weighted least square method which has fast convergence characteristics and can deal with the time varying plant. The consistency of the estimated parameter is proved. And it is also proved the whole system has the stabilizing property. The effectiveness of the algorithm and the structure is illustrated by the computer simulation of the model reference adaptive control for a third order plant. It is proposed how to select the selectable parameters in the adaptive control system from the simulation results.

  • The effects of pre-sintering and infiltration conditions on the electrical and physical properties of Cu-Cr contact material have been studied. Specimens were prepared by infiltration technique, aiming at the final composition of Cu50w%Cr, with varying pre-sintering and infiltration conditions. It showed that increased pre-sintering temperature had a little influence on the final microstructure of Cu-Cr contact material, but improved the surface morphology of Cr-skeleton resulting in better wettability in the followed infiltration process. It also showed that Cr grain growth and gram shape change became prominent with increasing infiltration temperature and time.

  • This paper describes a series of experiments investigating the operational characteristics of high-Tc superconducting synchronous motor of five to six hundred watts capacity. In this experiment, ac 220V stator phase voltage and DC 4A excitation current are used, and the synchronous speed runs at 1800rpm. Hall Sensors are installed on the pole face and at the side of the Ag/Bi-2223 high-Tc superconducting tape in order to analyze the effect of the time-varying magnetic field on the motor performance when the load changes its value. The experimental observations are compared with the theoretical predictions.

  • Liquid droplets of water and argon surrounded by their vapor have been simulated by the milecular dynamics method. To explore the surface phenomena of clusters, each molecule is classified into 'liquid', 'surface', or 'vapor' with respect to the number of neighbor molecules. The contribution of a 'surface' molecule of the water cluster to the far infrared spectrum is almist the same as that of the 'liquid' molecule. Hence, the liquid-vapor interface is viewed as geometrically and temporally varying boundary of 'liquid' molecules with only a single layer of 'surface' molecules that might have different characteristics from the 'liquid' molecules. The time scale of the 'phase change' of each molecule is estimated for the argon cluster by observing the instantancous kinetic and potential energies of each molecule. To compare the feature of clusters with macroscopic droplets, the temperature dependence of the surface tension of the argon cluster is estimated.

  • The dynamics of the pantograph motion and contact forces of the high-speed railway are investigated through signals. acquired during a test run. The signals are obtained from accelerometers, load cells, and strain gauges attached to various positions of the pantograph, and they are processed in time-and frequency-domains to evaluate the dynamic characteristics and load forces. The natural frequencies of the pantograph is found to be 8.5Hz. There also are frequency components varying linearly with the train speed. The signal frequency components above 40Hz are attenuated as they pass through the primary and secondary suspensions.

  • In the nonlinear dynamic structural analysis the given ground excitation as an input should be well defined. Because of the lack of recorded accelerograms in Korea it is required to generate an artificial earthquake by a stochastic model of ground excitation with various dynamic properties rather than recorded accelerograms. It is well known that earthquake motions are generally non-stationary with time-varying intensity and frequency content. Many researchers have proposed non-stationary random process models. Yeh and Wen (1990) proposed a non-stationary modulation function and a power spectral density function to describe such non-stationary characteristics. Satio and Wen(1994) proposed a non-stationary stochastic process model to generate earthquake ground motions which are compatible with design reponse spectrum at sites in Japan. this paper shows the process to modify power spectrum compatible with target design response spectrum for generating of nonstationary artificial earthquake ground motions. Target reponse spectrum is chosen by ATC14 to calibrate the response spectrum according to a give recurrence period.

  • The present study examined if individual listeners' perceptual variations were associated with their cognitive characteristics indexed by the Autistic Spectrum Quotient (AQ). This study first investigated the perception of the lexical pitch accent contrast in the Kyungsang Korean currently undergoing a sound change, and then tested if listeners' perceptual variations were correlated with their AQ scores. Eighteen Kyungsang listeners in their 20s participated in the perception experiment where they identified two contrastive accent words for auditory stimuli systematically varying F0 scaling and timing properties; the participants then completed the AQ questionnaire. In the results, the acoustic parameters reporting reduced phonetic differences across accent contrasts for younger Kyungsang generation played a reliable role in perceiving the HH word from HL, suggesting the discrepancy between the perception and the production in the context of sound change. This study also observed that individuals' perceptual variations were negatively correlated with their AQ sub scores. The present findings suggested that the sound change might appear differently between production and perception with a different time course, and deviant percepts could be explained by individuals' cognitive measure.

  • A rational and simple analytical model to predict the time varying cracking moment of reinforced concrete sections under sustained loading is developed. The modeling procedure is based on equilibrium and compatibility requirements and takes into account the interdependent effects of creep and shrinkage as well as the presence of axial loading. A parametric study is conducted in which particular consideration is given to the effects of reinforcement ratio, level of loading, and creep and shrinkage characteristics of concrete. It is concluded that the reduction in cracking moment is mainly attributed to shrinkage. The effect of shrinkage is more pronounced at low levels of sustained loading and at high reinforcement ratios. This effect is lessened by the compression steel and creep particularly when the applied moment is near the cracking moment.

  • In order to perform a step-by-step force-displacement response analysis or dynamic time-history analysis of large buildings with masonry infilled R/C frames, a continuous force-deformation model based on an equivalent strut approach is proposed for masonry infill panels containing openings. The model, which is applicable for degrading elements, can be implemented to replicate a wide range of monotonic force-displacement behaviour, resulting from different design and geometry, by varying the control parameters of the model. The control parameters of the proposed continuous model are determined using experimental data. The experimental program includes fifteen 1/3-scale, single-story, single-bay reinforced concrete frame specimens subjected to lateral cyclic loading. The parameters investigated include the shape, the size, the location of the opening and the infill compressive strength. The actual properties of the infill and henceforth the characteristics needed for the diagonal strut model are based on the assessment of its lateral resistance by the subtraction of the response of the bare frame from the response of the infilled frame.
