  • Due to the requirements for high reliability and accuracy, safety issues for airbag ignition systems need to be studied. In this paper, a high-voltage piezoelectric converter is designed to improve these requirements in airbag ignition systems. The proposed converter includes an inverter drive circuit, a Rosen piezoelectric transformer (PZT), an output circuit and a feedback control circuit. The key components of the high-voltage piezoelectric transformer are analyzed in detail. In addition, the proposed converter system is simulated and implemented for testing. The experimental results show that when the power supply is turned on, the charging time is less than 800ms. Furthermore, the output voltage of this converter can be kept between 2.9kV and 3.1kV, under high-efficiency constant current charging mode and zero-voltage switching conditions.

  • This paper deals with direct torque control of an induction motor (IM) with constant switching frequency. The desired torque is obtained from the speed controller which is designed using the IP controller. Decoupling control of torque and flux is developed based on the energy model of IM using the IP controller strategies. The desired d-axis and q-axis stator voltage components are obtained from the designed controller, which decouples torque and flux. The constant switching frequency can be applied using space-vector pulse width modulation, since the desired stator voltage can be known from the decoupling torque and flux controllers. In order to achieve stable operation of the proposed IP controllers, the gains of the controllers are chosen by setting the poles in negative (left) half of s-plane and by choosing the rising time for the response of the step function. The proposed controller was verified in simulations using Matlab/Simulink and results have proven excellent performance. It was found that the proposed IP controllers can provide excellent performance to track the desired torque and speed and to reject the disturbance of load.

  • The paper investigates the insulation properties of the supercritical $CO_2$ ($SCCO_2$) fluid as an insulating medium for electrical apparatuses. The insulating material is crucial for electrical apparatuses and $SF_6$ gas has been widely used for high power electrical apparatuses. There have been many research efforts to develop substituents for $SF_6$ gas because of high global warming potential. We obtained above 350 kV/mm insulation strength with 12.0 MPa $SCCO_2$. The positive and negative IEC standard pulses are applied between two 10 mm diameter spherical electrodes. The insulation strength of $SCCO_2$ is at least 2.5 times higher than that of $CO_2$ gas at 6.0MPa. The insulation strength of $SCCO_2$ fluid is about 10 times higher than that of $SF_6$ at 0.5MPa which is the ordinary operating pressure of electrical switchgears. Using the result, we expect that the time for switching and dielectric recovery could be reduced using $SCCO_2$ fluid as an insulating medium.

  • Generally, the average phase current is sampled at the midpoint of a PWM signal for the vector control of an AC motor. The three-phase current can also be reconstructed from a DC-link shunt resistor by sampling the shunt voltage during the active vectors of the SVPWM. However, the reconstructed current is different from the average current because of the deviation of the sampling point from the midpoint of the PWM signal. This paper proposes an algorithm to estimate the average current from the reconstructed current in a single-shunt inverter. The proposed method is derived from the phase current slopes based on switching states and corresponding switching time. In addition, the proposed method is generalized for all the six sectors of the space vector hexagon. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified with simulations and experiments.

  • In the dissertation, a power conversion system for fuel cell is composed of a PWM inverter with LC filter in order to convert fuel cell voltage to a single phase 220[V], In addition, new insulated DC-DC converters are proposed in order that fuel cell voltage is boosted to 380[V]. In this paper, it requires smaller components than existing converters, which makes easy control. The proposed DC-DC converter controls output power by the adjustment of phase-shift width using switch S5 and S6 in the secondary switch, which provides 93-97[%] efficiency in the wide range of output voltage. Fuel cell simulator is implemented to show similar output characteristics to actual fuel cell. Appropriate dead time td enables soft switching to the range where the peak value of excitation current in a high frequency transformer is in accordance with current in the primary circuit. Moreover, appropriate setting to serial inductance La reduces communication loss arisen at light-load generator and serge voltage arisen at a secondary switch and serial diode. Finally, TMS320C31 board and EPLD using PWM switching technique to act a single phase full-bridge inverter which is planed to make alternating current suitable for household.

  • A parallel TBF system that is consisted of two TBFs was developed f ‘ or the long-term treatment of gas-phase trichloroethylene (TCE). Each TBF was operated for TCE degradation or reactivation in a parallel mode, and the effect of switching time and operation variables between the two reactors was investigated. Within 12 hr after switching from TCE degradation to reactivation mode, the MO activity increased up to the initial level. More than 50 % of TCE was degraded for feed concentrations ranging from 5 to 17 ppmv, and completely 100 % removed at concentration of less than 5 ppmv, while TCE removal decreased severely over 28 ppmv. In various empty bed retention times (EBRTs), ranging 상 om 5.2 to 10.7 min, the optimal EBRT was 10.7 min that TCE conversion achieved more than 50 %. For the inlet loading below 23.4 mg TCE/L/day, TCE was entirely removed. The maximal TCE elimination capacity in this system was about 66.63 mg TCE/L/day. During the continuous treatment of TCE over 3 months, TCE removal efficiency was maintained at the range of about 50 %. In these results, the parallel TBF system can be available for the continuously TCE biodegrading operation.

  • In photorefractive crystals, light deflection is achieved by dynamic photorefractive volume grating, which is induced by the interference of two writing beams. In this paper, we implemented and analyzed the light deflector using Ce-SBN:60 crystals, which is doped with CeO$_2$ and photorefractive effect is induced by low intensity. And we measured maximum coupling coefficient, effective charge density, diffraction efficiency as the intensity ratio and response time.

  • ATM was adopted as the switching and multiplexing technique for BISDN which aims at transmitting traffics with various characteristics in a unified network. To construct these ATM networks, the most important aspect is the design of the switching system with high performance and different service capabilities. In this paepr, we analyze the performance of an input and output queueing switch with preemptive priority which is considered to be most suitable for ATM networks. For the analysis of an input queue, we model each input queue as two separate virtual input queues for each priority class and we approximage them asindependent Geom/Geom/1 queues. And we model a virtual HOL queue which consists of HOL cells of all virtual input queues which have the same output address to obtain the mean service time at each virtual input queue. For the analysis of an output quque, we obtain approximately the arrival process into the output queue from the state of the virtual HOL queue. We use a Markov chain method to analyze these two models and obtain the maximum throughput of the switch and the mean queueing delay of cells. and analysis results are compared with simulation to verify that out model yields accurate results.

  • A commercially available soft PZT wafer that is poled in thickness direction is subjected to longitudinal tensile stress loading in both short and open-circuit conditions. Variations of electric displacement in thickness direction and in-plane strains are measured over time during the loading. Different material responses in the two electrical boundary conditions are explained by the effects of piezoelectrically produced internal electric field on linear material moduli and domain switching mechanisms. Finally, a free energy model of normal distribution is introduced to explain the observed creep behavior, and its predictions are compared with experimental observations.
