  • The primary function of ZnO lightning arrester is to protect transmission and distribution equipment from overvoltages and to absorb electrical energy resulting from lightning or switching surges and form temporary overvoltage. However, ZnO lightning arrester are known to exhibit an increases in resistive current with time, the rate of increase being exacerbated with increasing applied voltage and ambient temperature. So, it is important to the leakage current measurement of ZnO lightning arrester. In addition, since the resistive leakage current caused by deterioration of ZnO lightning arrester mainly caused an increase of the third harmonic component, thereby it is possible the arrester degradation diagnosis by measuring the third harmonic component in the total leakage current. The leakage current and third harmonic component are measured and used to investigate the degradation diagnosis of ZnO element of arrester. Also the SEM photography is used to investigate the change of crystal structure of ZnO element with degradation.

  • In this study, Transient Characteristics of the Punch-Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (PT-IGBT) has been studied. On the contraty to Non-Punch Through Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(NPT-IGBT), PT-IGBT has buffer layer It has a simple drive circuit controlled by the gate voltage of the MOSFET and the low on-state resistance of the bipolar junction transistor. In this paper, the transient characteristics with temperature of the PT-IGBT has been analyzed analytically. PT-IGBT is made to reduce switching power loss. Excess Minority carrier distribution inactive base region and base charge, the rate of voltage with time is expressed analytically to include buffer layer.

  • We have studied electrode-optic characteristics of IPS (in-plane switching) mode with electrode on top substrate. Because the IPS mode does not have electrode on top substrate. it shows not only slow response time due to weak electric field but also slow discharging problem when electrostatic field is generated after fabricating the cell. To solve these problems. we have formed additional electrode including dielectric layer in the inner part of the cell and studied electrode-optic characteristics of new IPS cell by changing thickness of dielectric layer.

  • This paper presents parallel operation of two 3-phase PWM converters whose Power and control schemes can be directly applied to a large capacity system. This paper describes power circuit, dc voltage regulation, input power factor correction and balancing load control of two converters. Switching device Is IGBT and CPU of control is 32-bit floating point DSP for real time instantaneous control. Simulations and experimental results for 20kw model conform the validity of proposed schemes.

  • This paper is concerned with High Frequency, High Voltage Generator for X-ray using zero-voltage soft-switching PWM DC-DC high-power converter by Resonant method, which makes the most of the parastic LC parameters of high-voltage transformer link, for diagnostic X-ray power generator. The converter circuit basically utilizes phase-shift pulse width modulated series Resonant full-bridge PWM DC-DC high-power converter operating at a constant frequency;25kHz. The converter output regulation is digitally controlled using DSP (Digital Signal Processor) for obtaining a fast rising time and adjust output voltage within a wide load range.

A Practical Algorithm for Selective Harmonic Elimination in Five-Level Converters

  • Multilevel converters are being widely used in medium-voltage high-power applications including motor drive systems, utility power transmission, and distribution systems. Selective harmonic elimination (SHE) is a well-known modulation method to generate high quality output voltage waveforms. This paper presents a new simple practical method for generating a generalized five-level waveform without selected low order harmonics. This method is based on a phase-shifted expression for the SHE problem, which can analytically calculate the exact values of switching angles and the feasible modulation index range for three-level and five-level waveforms. The proposed method automatically determines the number of transitions between levels and generates proper output waveform without solving complex trigonometric equations. Due to the simplicity of the computational burden, the real-time implementation of the proposed algorithm can be performed by a simple processor. Simulation and experiment results verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • A constant voltage AC-DC converter based on digital assistant technology is proposed in this paper, which has rapid dynamic response capability. The converter operates in the PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode. According to the load state, the compensation current produced by the digital compensation module was injected into the CS pin to adjust the switching pulse width dynamically and improve the dynamic response. The control chip is implemented based on NEC $1{\mu}m$ 5V/40V HVCMOS process. A 5V/1.2A prototype has been built to verify the proposed control method. When the load jumps from idle to heavy, the undershoot time is only 7.4ms.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존에 선행되었던 연구를 바탕으로 반도체물성을 이용한 방법, 실험을 통한 방법, 수치해석적인 방법, 그리고 전류제어를 기반한 ON-TIME 해석에 대하여 비교하였다. 특히 전력전자분야에서 폭넓게 사용되고 있는 IGBT의 손실계산에 초점을 맞추어 반도체 물성을 기반으로 한 방법 및 선형 종속에 대한 근사화를 통한 방법을 적용하여 자세한 비교를 하였다.

Performance Characteristics of a 10kW Gas Engine for Generation Package

  • Cogeneration has been widely introduced in many countries for use m industrial, commercial and residential applications. However, there have been few models with an output of less than 100kW. In the present study, a spark ignited gas engine with electric generation output of 10kW was developed for micro cogeneration package. Developed gas engine achieved following performance characteristics such as $26.7\%$ of electric generation efficiency, NOx emission less than 10 ppm at $13\%$ oxygen, 82 dB of noise level, and about 3 seconds of switching time from idling to nominal power.

  • Cogeneration is the simultaneous generation of heat and electricity in a single unit, and is a highly energy-efficient technology compared to the independent generation of both products. Therefore, cogeneration has been widely introduced in many countries for use in industrial, commercial and residential applications. However, there have been few models with an output of less than 100 kilowatt.
