  • In this study , quasi-MFISFET (Metal-Ferroelectric-Insulator-Semiconductor FET) devices are fabricated using PLZT(10/30/70), PLT(10), PZT(30/70) thin film and their drain current properties are investigated. It is found that the drain current of quasi-MFISFET is directly influenced by the polarization strength of ferroelectric thin fan. Also, when the gate voltages are ${\pm}5\;and\;{\pm}10V$, the memory windows are 0.5 and 1.3V, respectively. It means that the memory window is changed with the variation of coercive voltage generated by the voltage applied on ferroelectric thin film. The electric field and the leakage current with time delay of PLZT(10/30/70) thin lam are measured to investigate the retention property of MFISFET device. Some material parameters such as current density constant, $J_{ETO}$, electric field dependent factor K and time dependent factor m are obtained. The variation of charge density with time is quantitatively analyzed by using the material parameters.

  • Lagrangian particle dispersion model(LPDM) is an effective tool to calculate the dispersion from a point source since it dose not induce numerical diffusion errors in solving the pollutant dispersion equation. Fictitious particles are released to the atmosphere from the emission source and they are then transported by the mean velocity and diffused by the turbulent eddy motion in the LPDM. The concentration distribution from the dispersed particles in the calculation domain are finally estimated by applying a particle count method or a Gaussian kernel method. The two methods for calculating concentration profiles were compared each other and tested against the analytic solution and the tracer experiment to find the strength and weakness of each method and to choose computationally time saving method for the LPDM. The calculated concentrations from the particle count method was heavily dependent on the number of the particles released at the emission source. It requires lots fo particle emission to reach the converged concentration field. And resulting concentrations were also dependent on the size of numerical grid. The concentration field by the Gaussian kernel method, however, converged with a low particle emission rate at the source and was in good agreement with the analytic solution and the tracer experiment. The results showed that Gaussian kernel method was more effective method to calculate the concentrations in the LPDM.

  • Seismic fragility functions are derived for probabilistic evaluation of seismic control performance of energy dissipation devices installed in reinforced concrete structures. Displacement-dependent dampers are added to the nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom systems with different natural periods and hysteretic characteristics of which stiffness and strength has uncertainty. Nonlinear time history analysis is conducted for those SDOF systems and the result is processed statistically to obtain seismic fragility functions in the form of log normal distribution. Variation of seismic fragility functions for different parameters of SDOF systems and dampers are investigated and the seismic control performance is assessed probabilistically.

  • The molecular fate of thyroglobulin (Tg) is controlled by oligomerization, a means of storing Tg at high concentrations, and deoligomerization. The oligomerization of bovine Tg are intermolecular reactions that occur through oxidative processes, such as disulfide and dityrosine formation, as well as isopeptide formation; disulfide formation is primarily responsible for Tg oligomerization. Here, the protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) and/or peroxidase-induced oligomerization of unfolded thyroglobulins, which were prepared by treating bovine Tg with heat, urea or thiol/urea, was investigated using SDS-PAGE analyses. In addition, the enzymatic oligomerization was compared with non-enzymatic oligomerization. The thermally-induced oilgomerization of Tg, dependent on glutathione redox state, was affected by the ionic strength or the presence of a surfactant. Meanwhile, PDI-catalyzed oligomerization, time and pH-dependent, was the most remarkable with unfolded/reduced Tg, which was prepared from a treatment with urea/DTT, while the thermally-unfolded Tg was less sensitive. Similarly, the oligomerization of unfolded/reduced Tg was also mediated by peroxidase. However, PDI showed no remarkable effect on the peroxidase-mediated oligomerization of either the unfolded or unfolded/reduced Tg. Additionally, the reductive deoligomerization of oligomeric Tg was exerted by PDI in an excessively reducing state. Based on these results, it is proposed that PDI catalyzes the oligomerization of Tg through the disulfide linkage and its deoligomerization in the molecular fate, and this process may require a specific molecular form of Tg, optimally unfolded/reduced, in a proper redox state.

  • In this work, ultra-fine calcium oxide (CaO) powder derived from eggshells is used as the starting material to synthesize mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). The prepared CaO powder is confirmed to have an average particle size of 500 nm. MTAs are synthesized with three types of fine CaO-based powders, namely, tricalcium silicate (C3S), dicalcium silicate (C2S), and tricalcium aluminate (C3A). The synthesis behavior of C3S, C2S and C3A with ultra-fine CaO powder and the effects of C3A content and curing time on the properties of MTA are investigated. The characteristics of the synthesized MTA powders are examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and a universal testing machine (UTM). The microstructure and compressive strength characteristics of the synthesized MTA powders are strongly dependent on the C3A wt.% and curing time. Furthermore, MTA with 5 wt.% C3A is found to increase the compressive strength and shorten the curing time.

  • [ $SF_6$ ]gas, which has an excellent dielectric strength and interruption performance, is used in various applications such as gas insulated switchgear (GIS) in substations. However, since $SF_6$ has a high global warming potential (GWP), it is necessary to find an eco-friendly alternative insulation gas. In order to examine the possibility of using alternative insulation gases for $SF_6$ in power distribution system equipment, the dielectric strength and physical phenomena of dry air in a quasi-uniform electric field are investigated experimentally in this paper. As a result, the breakdown voltages for positive polarity are higher than those for negative polarity under impulse voltage applications. The negative 50[%] flashover voltage, $V_{50}$ of dry air under conditions above 0.4[MPa] gas pressure, is higher than 150[kV], that is the basic impulse insulation level of distribution equipment. The $V_{50}$ increases linearly with increasing the gas pressure, regardless of the waveform and polarity of the applied impulse voltages. The voltage-time curves are dependent on the rise time of the impulse voltage and gas pressure. Furthermore, streamer discharge was observed through light emission images by an ICCD camera under impulse voltage applications.

  • Performance evaluation of RC bridge piers repaired by CFRP has been investigated. For this purpose, simplified CFRP stress-strain relationship has been proposed and use is made of inelastic time-dependent element developed by authors. Static time-history analysis has been carried out for a RC bridge pier repaired with CFRP. Analytical predictions shows a relatively good correlation with experimental results. In addition, in case of dynamic time-history analysis, effect of the CFRP repair intervention on shear has been evaluated. Comparative analysis reveals that a repaired member produces increased characteristics due to the repair intervention and may affect the overall response of a whole structure. Moreover, effect of shear significantly affect strength, stiffness and displacement response of the pier. In all, It is believed that the present analytical model and scheme enable a healthy evaluation of strength, stiffness and displacement capacities of a RC bridge pier being damaged and repaired.

  • One of the biggest problems affecting bridges is the transverse cracking and deterioration of concrete bridge decks. The causes of early age cracking are primarily attributed to plastic shrinkage, temperature effects, autogenous shrinkage, and drying shrinkage. The cracks can be influenced by material characteristics, casting sequence, formwork, climate conditions, geometry, and time dependent factors. The cracking of bridge decks not only creates unsightly aesthetic condition but also greatly reduces durability. It leads to a loss of functionality, loss of stiffness, and ultimately loss of structural safety. This investigation consists of field, laboratory, and analytical phases. The experimental and field testing investigate the early age transverse cracking of bridge decks and evaluate the use of sealant materials. The research identifies suitable materials, for crack sealing, with an ability to span cracks of various widths and to achieve performance criteria such as penetration depth, bond strength, and elongation. This paper also analytically examines the effect of a wide range of parameters on the development of cracking such as the number of spans, the span length, girder spacing, deck thickness, concrete compressive strength, dead load, hydration, temperature, shrinkage, and creep. The importance of each parameter is identified and then evaluated. Also, the AASHTO Standard Specification limits liveload deflections to L/800 for ordinary bridges and L/1000 for bridges in urban areas that are subject to pedestrian use. The deflection is found to be an important parameter to affect cracking. A set of recommendations to limit the transverse deck cracks in bridge decks is also presented.

  • In mobile radio communication, propagation paths are time or spacial varying because of the motion of mobile unit. The propagation path loss not only involves frequency and distance but also the antenna height at both the base station and the mobile unit, terrain configuration, and the man made en- vironment. Thhese additional factors make the prediction of propagation path loss of mobile radio signals more difficult. In this paper, it is measured field strenght of mobile radio signals in Daejeon and Seoul area, also calculated local median, 500m sample mean, and stadard deviation. As the result of analysis, it can be seen that propagation path loss of measured data is similiar to predicted field strength, especially local median is dependent upon base antenna height, terrain configuration and the man-made environment. The standard deviation has been noted to lie between 2 and 10 dBuV.

  • This study aims to identify the effect of both longitudinal reinforcement details and damage level on making a decision of repairing pre-damaged bridge columns using basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) jackets. Two RC bridge columns with improper details of the longitudinal and/or transverse reinforcement were tested under the effect of a constant axial load and increasing lateral cyclic loading. Test results showed that the lap-splice column exhibited an inferior performance where it showed rapid degradation of strength before achieving the theoretical strength and its deformation capacity was limited; however, quick restoration is possible through a suitable rehabilitation technique. On the other hand, expensive repair or even complete replacement could be the decision for the column with the confinement failure mode. After that, a rehabilitation technique using external BFRP jacket was adopted. Performance-based design details guaranteeing the enhancement in the inelastic performance of both damaged columns were addressed and defined. Test results of the repaired columns confirmed that both reparability and the required repairing time of damage structures are dependent on the reinforcement details at the plastic hinge zone. Furthermore, lap-splice of longitudinal reinforcement could be applied as a key design-tool controlling reparability and restorability of RC structures after massive actions.
