  • Integration of intelligent robot workcell is now a hot issue in CIM and robotics area. This paper dealt with relatively low level essential topics. i. e., multi-robot coordination and real-time communication for the integration of intelligent robot workcell. For the coordination of multi-robot system, the tightly-coupled coordination is proposed using the various sensors. In order to handle the numerous communication data, time-critical communication network (field-bus) is introduced and investigated. Finally, intelligent robot workcell is suggested using the mini-MAP and field-bus.

  • DNA microarray and next-generation sequencing provide data that can be used for the genetic analysis of multiple quantitative traits such as gene expression levels, transcription factor binding profiles, and epigenetic signatures. In particular, chromatin opening is tightly coupled with gene transcription. To understand how these two processes are genetically regulated and associated with each other, we examined the changes of chromatin accessibility and gene expression in response to genetic variation by means of quantitative trait loci mapping. Regulatory patterns commonly observed in yeast and human across different technical platforms and experimental designs suggest a higher genetic complexity of transcription regulation in contrast to a more robust genetic architecture of chromatin regulation.

  • In ubiquitous environments, many applications need to process data with time and space dimensions. Because of this, there is growing attention not only on gathering spatiotemporal data in ubiquitous environments, but also on processing such data in databases. In order to obtain the full benefits from spatiotemporal data, we need a data model that naturally expresses the properties of spatiotemporal data. In this paper, we introduce three spatiotemporal data models extended from temporal data models. The main goal of this paper is to determine which data model is less complex in the spatiotemporal context. To this end, we compare their query languages in the complexity aspect because the complexity of a query language is tightly coupled with its underlying data model. Throughout our investigations, we show that it is important to intertwine space and time dimensions and keep one-to-one correspondence between an object in the real world and a tuple in a database in order to naturally express queries in ubiquitous applications.

  • Accuracy of an integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) / Inertial Navigation System (INS) relies heavily on the visibility of GPS satellites. Especially, its accuracy is dramatically degraded in urban canyon due to signal obstructions due to large structures. In this paper, we propose a new integrated positioning system that effectively combines INS, GPS, ultrasonic sensor, and barometer in GPS-denied environments. In the proposed system, the ultrasonic sensor provides velocity information along the forward direction of moving vehicle. The barometer output provides height information compensated for the pressure variation due to fast vehicle movements. To evaluate the performance of the proposed system, an experiment was carried out by mounting the proposed system on a test car. By the experiment result, it was confirmed that the proposed system bears good potential to maintain positioning accuracy in harsh urban environments.

  • A frequency-domain PES estimation and its prediction method are proposed for the tightly-coupled servo/mechanical design of high-TPI HDD system above 100kTPI. The major two disturbance energies which are related with mechanical vibrations inside of HDD are used to predict the drive-level PES, while considering closed-loop servo dynamics. One is the torque disturbance which mainly comes from aerodynamic excitation of HSA system and the other is the displacement disturbance from disk-spindle dynamics. (omitted)

  • The paper deals with integrated navigation and sense & avoid systems for small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). First an introduction to the current UAV activities of the institute is given. It is followed by an overview about the integrated navigation system developed for small UAVs. The system is based on a tightly-coupled GPS/INS architecture. But instead of using delta-ranges, time-differenced carrier phases are used to aid the INS. Finally, results from navigation filter validation in flight tests are presented. After that an overview about sense and avoid strategies for application in small unmanned aircraft is given. From this a guideline for developing such a system for the institute's UAVs is presented.

  • Timing simulators are widely used nowadays for analyzing large-scale MOS digital circuits, which, however, have several limitations such as nonconvergence and/or in accuracy for circuits containing tightly coupled feedback elements or loops. This paper describes a new timing simulator which aims at solving these problems. The algorithm employed is based on the wave-form relaxation method, but exploits the signal flow along the feedback loops. Each of feedback loops is treated as one circuit block and then local iterations are performed to enhance the timing simulation. With these techniques, out simulator can analyze the MOS digital circuits with up to 5-20 times of the magnitude speed improvemnets as compared to SPICE2, while maintaining the accuracy.

  • Because of explosive increase of information, it spends a lot of time to trace and analysis research trends during total R&D process. It has rapidly evolved from R&D or process development within a specific domain of knowledge to R&D or process development through knowledge convergency. To accept such a paradigm, it is necessary to convert dissemination system from a separate, standalone, and fragmentary information to highly coupled fusion information. Although there are several studies on knowledge flows between science and technology or technology and industry, it is difficult to analyse and utilize quantitatively to establish policy of Science, Technology, and Industry. The reason is the lack of information resource to analyse knowledge flow from science to industry. This paper intends to develop framework of highly coupled linking system between patent and scientific paper to utilize R&D, S&T policy, and industry policy.

  • This paper presents a technique for real time multiprocessor parallel processing to develop an avionic system computer(ASC) which integrates the avionics control, navigation and fire control, cursive and raster graphic symbol generation into one line replaceable unit. The proposed method has optimal performance by adopting a logically asymmetric structure between four 32bit RISC processors based on the master-slave multiprocessing, a tightly coupled interaction level with the time shared common bus and global memory, and an efficient bus arbitration algorithm. The ASC has been verified through a series of flight tests. The relevant tests also have been rigorously conducted on the prototype ASC such as electrical test, environmental test, and electromagnetic interference test.
