  • A novel topology generation method for the no dead-time three-phase AC/DC converter is proposed in this study. With this method, a series of no dead time topologies are generated and their operation principles are analyzed. The classic three-phase bridge AC/DC converter can realize a bidirectional operation. However, dead-time should be inserted in the driving signals to avoid the shoot-through problem, which would cause additional harmonics. Compared with the bridge topology, the proposed topologies lack the shoot-through problem. Thus, dead time can be avoided. All of the no dead time three-phase AC/DC converters can realize bidirectional operation. The operating principles of the converters are analyzed in detail, and the corresponding control strategies are discussed. Comparisons of waveform distortion and efficiency among the converters are provided. Finally, 9 KW DSP-based principle prototypes are established and tested. Simulation and experimental results verify the theoretical analysis.

  • This paper presents a Zero Voltage and Zero Current Switching (ZVZCS) 3-Level DC/DC converter. This converter overcomes the drawbacks presented by the conventional Zero Voltage Switching(ZVS) 3-Level converter, such as high circulating energy, severe parastic ringing on the rectifier diodes, and limited ZVS load range for the inner switches. The converter presented in this paper uses a phase shift control with a flying capacitor in the primary side to achieve ZVS for the outer switches. Additionally, the converter uses an energy recovery snubber to reset the primary current during the free-wheeling stage to achieve ZCS for the inner switches. The proposed converters are analyzed and verified on 6kW, 39kHz experimental prototype.

  • Diode rectifier which can't be controlled output voltage and phase control converter as AC/DC converter have low power factor and harmonics of lower order in the line current. In this paper, three phase PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) AC/DC boost converter is studied to solve these problems. The characteristics of a proposed converter are to control the phase of current without current sensor as a very simple control algorithm using circuit parameters only and to apply sinusoidal PWM method with fixed switching frequency due to a difficult design of input filter and switching device. We simulate for the proposed algorithm that high power factor is achieved and DC link voltage has fast dynamic response without ripple in rectifying and regenerating operation. As a result of experiment with circuit parameter(inductor, capacitor) decided in simulation, the proposed converter had high power factor and reduction of low order harmonics as against diode rectifier.

  • A ZVZCS(Zero-Voltage and Zero-Current-Switching) Three Level DC/DC Converter is presented to secondary auxiliary circuit. The converter presented in this paper used a phase shift control with a flying capacitor in the primary side to achieve ZVS for the outer switch. A secondary auxiliary circuit, which consists of one small capacitor and two small diode, is added in the secondary to provides ZVZCS conditions to primary switches, and aids to clamp secondary rectifier voltage. The auxiliary circuit Includes neither lossy component nor addition active switch, which makes the proposed converter efficient and effective. The principle of operation, feature, and design considerations are illustrated and verified through the experiment with a 500W 50kHz prototype converter.

  • This paper presents the application of a single phase AC-to-DC converter using a three-phase series parallel (SPRC) resonant converter to variable speed dc-drive. The improved power quality converter gives the input power factor unity over a wide speed range, reduces the total harmonic distortion (THD) of ac input supply current, and makes very low ripples in the armature current and voltage waveform. This soft-switching converter not only possesses the advantages of achieving high switching frequencies with practically zero switching losses but also provides full ranges of voltage conversion and load variation. The proposed drive system is the most appropriate solution to preserve the present separately excited de motors in industry compared with the use of variable frequency ac drive technology. The simulation and experimental results are presented for variable load torque conditions. The variable frequency control scheme is implemented using a DSP- TMS320LF2402. This control reduces the switching losses and current ripples, eliminates the EMI and improves the efficiency of the drive system. Experimental results confirm the consistency of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, a fault detection scheme for DC-link voltage sensor and its fault tolerant control strategy for three-phase AC/DC/AC PWM converters are proposed, where the Luenberger observer is applied to estimate the DC-link voltage. The Luenberger observer is based on a converter model, which is derived from the voltage equations of a grid-side converter and the power balance on a DC link. A fault of the voltage sensor is detected by comparing the measured value of the DC-link voltage with the estimated one. When a sensor fault is detected, a fault tolerant control strategy is performed, where the estimated DC-link voltage is used for the feedback control. The estimation error from the observer is about 1.5 V, which is sufficiently accurate for feedback control. In addition, it is shown that the observer performance is robust to parameter variations of the converter. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, we propose a three-phase isolated electrolytic capacitorless charger available for quick charger. In the proposed charger, electrolytic capacitor in DC link is eliminated by direct conversion from AC input to DC output. Conventional chargers are two stage structure including AC-DC and DC-DC converters, but the proposed charger can be simplified into single stage converter by using a matrix converter. And the waveform of input currents is improved by giving the weighting factor to the duty ratio of auxiliary switches. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed charger, simulations are carried out and a 1.2kW charger was constructed and experimented.
