The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Maca water and/or ethanol extract on the nitric oxide (NO) production in human umbilical vein endothelial cells HUVAC and on erectile dysfunction in rats. Maca was extracted due to both solutions, which are water and ethanol. Each Maca extract was applied to HUVAC, and NO production was checked. Additionally, three different dosages (250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg) of Maca ethanol extract was administered to Sprague-Dawley rats for 4 weeks. All rats were sacrificed and each sample was collected for analysis. The control rats received only the saline vehicle. The NO production of HUVAC was significantly increased by domestic and homemade Maca water extracted at $60^{\circ}C$ group. Both NO generation and testosterone release were not influenced due to the oral administration of Maca. In the EtOH group rats, the number of sperm was reduced compared to that of the control group. All Maca groups had a high number of sperm and each sperm count had increased as a result of the Maca extract dose. The results of this research suggest that Maca has a positive effect on male erectile dysfunction, which need to be examined further in future studies.
Carbon supports for dispersed platinum (Pt) electrocatalysts in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) are being continuously developed to improve electrochemical performance and catalyst stability. However, carbon supports still require solutions to reduce costs and improve catalyst efficiency. In this study, we prepare well-dispersed Pt electrocatalysts by introducing titanium dioxide (TiO2) into biomass based nitrogen-doped carbon supports. In order to obtain optimized electrochemical performance, different amounts of TiO2 component are controlled by three types (Pt/TNC-2 wt%, Pt/TNC-4 wt%, and Pt/TNC-6 wt%). Especially, the anodic current density of Pt/TNC-4 wt% is 707.0 mA g-1pt, which is about 1.65 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C (429.1 mA g-1pt); Pt/TNC-4wt% also exhibits excellent catalytic stability, with a retention rate of 91 %. This novel support provides electrochemical performance improvement including several advantages of improved anodic current density and catalyst stability due to the well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles on the support by the introduction of TiO2 component and nitrogen doping in carbon. Therefore, Pt/TNC-4 wt% may be electrocatalyst a promising catalyst as an anode for high-performance DMFCs.
In this study, we improved the eggshell-membrane separation process by separating the shell and membrane with EDTA solution, evaluating effects of three different extraction solutions (acetic acid, EDTA, and phosphate solution), and co-purifying multiple eggshell proteins with two successive ion-exchange chromatography procedures (CM Sepharose Fast Flow and DEAE Sepharose Fast Flow). The recovery and residual rates of eggshell and membrane separated by the modified method with added EDTA solution were 93.88%, 91.15% and 1.01%, 2.87%, respectively. Ovocleidin-116 (OC-116) and ovocalyxin-36 (OCX-36) were obtained by loading 50 mM Na-Hepes, pH 7.5, 2 mM DTT and 350 mM NaCl buffer onto the DEAE-FF column at a flow rate of 1 mL/min, ovocleidin-17 (OC-17) was obtained by loading 100 mM NaCl, 50 mM Tris, pH 8.0 on the CM-FF column at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The purities of OCX-36, OC-17 and OC-116 were 96.82%, 80.15% and 73.22%, and the recovery rates were 55.27%, 53.38% and 36.34%, respectively. Antibacterial activity test suggested that phosphate solution extract exhibited significantly higher activity against the tested bacterial strains than the acetic acid or EDTA extract, probably due to more types of proteins in the extract. These results demonstrate that this separation method is feasible and efficient.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to design the curriculum of Basic College Software Programming to develop creative and logical-thinking. This course is guided by algorithmic thinking and logical thinking that can be solved by computing for problem-solving, and it helps to develop by software through basic programming education. Through the stage of problem analysis, abstraction, algorithm, data structure, and algorithm implementation, the curriculum is designed to help learners experience algorithm problem-solving in various areas to develop diffusion thinking. For Learners aim to achieve the balanced development of divergent and convergent-thinking needed in their creative problem-solving skills. Research design, data and methodology: This study is to design a basic software education for improving algorithm-thinking for non-major. The curriculum designed in this paper is necessary to non-majors students who have completed the 'Creative Thinking and Coding Course' Design Thinking based are targeted. For this, contents were extracted through advanced research analysis at home and abroad, and experts in computer education, computer engineering, SW education, and education were surveyed in the form of quasi-openness. Through three expert surveys, we established a strategy for characterization by demand analysis and major/textbook category and verified the appropriateness of the design direction to ensure that the subjects and contents of the curriculum are appropriate for each family in order to improve algorithm-thinking. Conclusions: This study helps develop software by enhancing the ability of students who practice various subjects and exercises to explore creative expressions in various areas, such as 'how to think like a computer' that can implement and execute their ideas in computing. And it helps increase the ability to think logical and algorithmic computing based on creative solutions, improving problem-solving ability based on computing thinking and fundamental understanding of computer coding and development of logical thinking ability through programming.
This paper presents a numerical study of the wave loads acting on offshore structures using a Cartesian-grid-based flow simulation method. Finite volume discretization with a volume-of-fluid (VOF) method is adopted to solve two-phase Navier-Stokes equations. Among the many variations of the VOF method, the CICSAM scheme is applied. The body boundary conditions are satisfied using a porosity function, and wave generation is carried out by using transient (wave or damping) zone approaches. In order to validate the present numerical method, three different basic offshore structures, including a sphere, Pinkster barge, and Wigley model, are numerically investigated. First, diffraction and radiation problems are solved using the present numerical method. The wave exciting and drift forces from the diffraction problems are compared with potential-based solutions. The added mass and wave damping forces from the radiation problems are also compared with the potential results. Next, the wave-induced motion responses of the structures are calculated and compared with the existing experimental data. The comparison results are fairly good, showing the validity of the present numerical method.
As household energy consumption has increased, serious environmental problems, such as resource depletion and global warming, are becoming global issues. It is essential to conduct the energy use of residents living in apartments in order to come up with alternative solutions for energy savings. Therefore, this study examined the energy use awareness of apartment residents and their energy use behavior by various types of awareness. To understand their energy use behavior according to the awareness of the subjects, the energy awareness dimension was created with five factors and they were subject to a cluster analysis; then, the subjects were categorized into three groups. Finally, the difference of energy use behavior was examined by groups of energy awareness. G1 represents the group that is indifferent to energy savings and believes that convenience is an important factor. Also, with respect to energy use behavior, this group tends to pursue convenience. G2 is the group that is conscious of energy use costs thereby enduring some inconvenience, and shows savings behavior in daily life and household affairs. Although, G3 is very aware of the significance for the necessity of energy saving, their energy saving behavior is relatively negative. Regarding these different characteristics of each resident group in their energy saving awareness and behaviors, diverse methods and promotion in energy education are required. Furthermore, an effective energy policy should be established based on the understanding of energy consumption.
As Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle and Electric Vehicle (PHEV/EV) take a greater share in the personal automobile market, their high penetration levels may bring potential challenges to electric utility especially at the distribution level. Thus, there is a need for the flexible charging management strategy to compromise the benefits of both PHEV/EV owners and power grid side. There are many different management methods that depend on the objective function and the constraints caused by the system. In this paper, the schema and dispatching schedule of centralized PHEV/EV charging spot network are analyzed. Also, we proposed and compared three power allocation strategies for centralized charging spot. The first strategy aims to maximize state of vehicles at plug-out time, the rest methods are equalized allocation and prioritized allocation based on vehicles SoC. The simulation results show that each run of the optimized algorithms can produce the satisfactory solutions to response properly the requirement from PHEV/EV customers.

GPS has been increasingly exploited to provide positioning and navigation solutions for a variety of applications. In vessel berthing application, however, there are stringent requirements in terms of positioning accuracy, availability and integrity that cannot be satisfied by GPS alone. This is because the performance of satellite-based positioning and navigation systems are heavily dependent on both the number and the geometric distribution of satellite tracked by receivers. Due to the limited number of GPS satellites, a sufficient number of ‘visible’ satellites cannot be sometimes guaranteed. This paper discusses some issues associated with the implementation of ground-based pseudolite augmentation for vessel berthing. Pseudolite means small transmitter that transmits GPS-like signals in local area. Actually, pseudolite can play three different roles in GPS augmentation scheme, depending on the operational conditions. Firstly, in the case of kinematic GPS operation where there are no signal blockages, and more than five satellites are available, additional pseudolites strengthen the GPS satellite-pseudolite geometry, and more accurate and reliable positioning solution can be achieved. Secondly, in the case when there are adverse GPS operational environments in which the number of tracked satellites is less than four, pseudolites can complement the GPS signals. In the third case, GPS signals are completely unavailable, such as when operated indoor. In such cases the pseudolites can replace the satellite constellation. However, the first role will be considered in this paper, since more than four satellite signals can usually be tracked in most marine applications. This paper presents that the pseudolite-augmented precise positioning system can provides continuous centimeter-level positioning accuracy through comparison analysis of RDOP simulation result of the GPS satellite constellation and the pseudolite-augmented GPS satellite constellation.
Many fundamental studies have been carried out regarding waste water and hazardous gas treatments technologies using the photolysis effect of $TiO_2$. However, a permanent use of $TiO_2$ particles immobilized using organic or organic-inorganic binders is impossible. In this study, Ni-$TiO_2$ composite coating was produced by electroless plating to trap $TiO_2$ particles in the Ni coating layer. The electroless plating was performed in the bath solutions with three different concentrations of $TiO_2$ particles : 10 g/l, 20 g/l, and 40 g/l. The surface and photolytic characteristics of the coating layer was investigated by the use of SEM, a scratch tester, and an UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that the amounts of immobilized $TiO_2$ particles and the photolytic rate of the coating increased with the initial content of $TiO_2$ particles in the electroless bath. In addition, the photolytic rate of the Ni-$TiO_2$ composite coating was remarkably promoted by etching process in 10% HCl solution.
