  • Recently deschbed new species, Cladosiphon umezakii Ajisaka (Ectocarpales,Phaeophyceae) is reported in Korea based on morphology and plastid rbcL sequences. Cladosiphon umezakii occurred on low intertidal to subtidal zone along the south and southeast coasts in Korea. Thalli are gold to dark brown, ercct, cylindrical, irregularly branched, and very mucoid. Unitocular zoidangium is developed at the base uf assimilatory filaments. Assimilatory filaments are very long. Eight specimens of the pecies collected from Korea clustered with those of C. umezakii in Japan in rbcL tree. The pecies showed a sister relationship with C. okamuranus. The occurrence of this warm water species is thought an example of northward migration of marine algae caused by global warming. Because C. umezakii is of the economica! importance of the genus as foods and medidnes, the study on mass culture of the species is necessary in korea.

  • Objectives: Using a PHR(Personal Health Record) is very important for the management of chronic disease and health. The young age group in this study was asked to pretend that they were members in the old age group (adult group here after) in order to investigate the recognition level differences in such conditions. Methods: We conducted face to face surveys with two age groups. 131 Adults and 398 University students, from May 11 to 22 in 2009. The questionnaires were composed of 18 items. Results & Conclusion: Adults replied more favorably than University students in using PHR willingness(University group 3.3score, Adults 3.7score) and recommendation(university 3.1score, Adults 3.8score). Adults liked paper PHR (63.2%), whereas, University students favored electronic Personal Health Record (71.1%). University students were highly concerned about disclosing the information(4.5score) of their PHR. They thought the appropriate time of education for PHR is high school or University degree. Therefore, in the future, it is vital that a PHR for young age group should be begun in early education and that an ePHR should be developed.

  • This paper studied the ban on 'Po[포]', including hemp and ramie, on the basis of Joseon Wangcho Silok (the True Record of Joseon Dynasty). Po is the important point which can help to understand the people's life related with clothing. This paper showed that in the early years of the Joseon Dynasty, the state had forced kinds of bans on some fabrics many times. Among the bans of the fabrics-making the main part was the bans on Po, along with rice, used as money in those days. The state had on Po enacted on the policy to intend to promote paper money circulation more widely. However, people didn't want to use paper money. The reason why cloth could be practical and functional as a kind of currency was that people could make clothes with it at any time while they used it as money. People avoided using paper money that could not be used in that way, and so did public officials. At that time, Po that was generally used as money was the hemp of five warp threads. The measurement of the hemp in 7chi[촌; a Korean inch] by 35chok[척] and 32cm by 16m by modern metric. It also showed that it has been thought that the blended fabrics are the fabrics that were made of raw silk-threads and cotton threads as warp and weft respectively. However, the fact that there is a record of 'Jeo Ma Gyo Jik Po[저마교직포의]'(blended fabrics and clothes made of ramie and hemp) and there appear the new proofs of the fieldwork investigation shows that the concept of blended fabrics might be various or changeable as time passed.

  • The "Annals of the Joseon Dynasty (朝鮮王朝實錄)" is the precious historical material which contains royal culture of Joseon dynasty as an official document. It kept a record of the diseases and treatments relating to the 27 Kings for a period of 518 years, who had a variety of different symptoms. Among them the most frequent disease was a skin disorder such as a boil of a painful infected swelling. Dermatosis became the direct cause of death of several Kings. In this article we tried to conduct research using the "Annals of the Joseon Dynasty" into the skin diseases of the Kings during the first period of Joseon dynasty from the first King Taejo (太祖) to the 12th King Injong (仁宗). Among the 12 Kings, the 5th King Munjong (文宗), the 7th King Sejo (世祖), the 9th King Seongjong(成宗), the 10th King Yeonsangun (燕山君), and the 11th King Jungjong suffered from dermatosis. The King Munjong died at the age of 38 and suffered from severe boils before his death. The cause of death is thought to be septicaemia. The King Sejo does not have any specific record of skin disease, however, the recently discovered relics showed the indications of serious skin trouble of boils. The King Seongjong suffered from skin diseases at the age of 20, 27, 28 and 38. Nevertheless, the direct cause of death was not dermatosis. The King Yeonsangun had skin trouble of boils on his face when he was 20. He lost the throne and died of an infectious disease at 31. The King Jungjong had a record of suffering from dermatosis at the beginning of twenties, at the middle of forties, and at the age of 57 when he died. The skin trouble affected the whole of the body. He was treated with acupuncture therapy and medication for both internal and external uses among which folk remedies were included.
