  • Two brothers aged 15 1/6 and 12 2/3 years were diagnosed as Class I malocclusion with ectopic eruption of the upper left central incisor in the elder brother and etopic eruption in the upper right second premolar in the younger. All 4 second molars were extracted at the same time in both brothers. The treatment results were as follows. 1. In the elder brother, the third molars were fully erupted and their angulations were excellent at 3 years post-treatment. 2. In the younger brother, the lower right third molar was mesially erupted and upper third molars were still undergoing eruption at 3 years post-treatment. 3. Assessment of panex films of both brothers at aged 15 showed an earlier eruption of the third molars in the younger brother. 4. A longer post-treatment supervision of the third molars was required in the younger brother. 5. The facial probiles were enhanced and the ectopic eruptions were corrected in both brothers.

  • In this paper, after the third electrode type oxidant generator which could format non-uniform electric field in water had been manufactured and installed, by direct electrolysis, the effects of the hydrogen potential and oxidation reduction potential characteristics attendant upon electric field change on a higher concentration oxidant generation characteristics were investigated. Consequently, as the third electrode was installed in the middle of two slit electrodes and the polarity of applied power was changed, it was observed that the third electrode system with the positive electrode can generate a higher concentration oxidant, hydrogen potential and oxidation reduction potential as compared with that of the negative electrode. It is because the positive electrode was bombarded mostly energetic electrons and the negative electrode was bombarded mainly by less energetic positive ions.

  • A new third harmonic injection circuit for light-emitting diode (LED) drivers is proposed to eliminate electrolytic capacitors and thereby extend the lifetime of LED drivers. When a third harmonic current is injected to the input current of the LED driver, the required capacitance of the driver can be reduced. The proposed circuit can control an injection ratio and has simple circuitry. The synchronous third harmonic is generated by a phase locked loop (PLL), a 1/3 counter, and op-amps and applied to a power factor correction circuit. Thus, the storage capacitor can install film capacitors instead of the electrolytic capacitor. The value of storage capacitance can be reduced to 78% compared to an input power factor of 100%. The proposed circuit is applied to the 80W prototype LED driver to experimentally verify the performances.

  • A new method to neglect the third term of the computational energy expression in the single-layer neural network with feedback is introduced. The system often converges to local minima instead of to global minima, because the computational energy is not matched exactly with the cost function being optimized. One of the factors causing these tow functions different is the third term of computational enegy expression. Regarding this third term energy very small, it is always ignored in designing the system. However, a sthe system growing, this third term energy is also growing and this grown term makes the computational energy function much different from the cost function. In results of differency between two functions, system converges to local minima more than before. In this paper, a new method to neglect te third term energy is introduced, so that the system with tis new method has been imroved.

  • In this study, free vibration of functionally graded (FG) micro/nanobeams based on nonlocal third-order shear deformation theory and under different boundary conditions is investigated by applying the differential quadrature method. Third-order shear deformation theory can consider the both small-scale effects and quadratic variation of shear strain and hence shear stress along the FG nanobeam thickness. The governing equations are obtained by using the Hamilton's principle, based on third-order shear deformation beam theory. The differential quadrature (DQ) method is used to discretize the model and attain the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The properties of FG micro/nanobeam are assumed to be chanfged along the thickness direction based on the simple power law distribution. The effects of various parameters such as the nonlocal parameter, gradient index, boundary conditions and mode number on the vibration characteristics of FG micro/nanobeams are discussed in detail.

  • In global competition composition changing rapidly, domestic industry faces changes and logistics industry, one of service industries, is recognized as an important factor for development of domestic industry and national economy. At this moment, companies must suggest differentiated service, strategies, etc. so as to create and maintain competitive advantages in comparison with other companies. The requirements preannounce big movement of third party logistics market. Therefore, government, logistics industry and academic world have suggested lots of studies so as to vitalized third party logistics market. The purposes of this research are to verify that innovative changes are necessary to be existing in fierce competition of third party logistics market and analyze the effects of third party logistics on logistics outcomes so as to form continuous relations with shipper.

  • Trigeminal nerve injury as a consequence of lower third molar surgery is a notorious complication and may affect the patient in long term. Inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) and lingual nerve (LN) injury result in different degree of neurosensory deficit and also other neurological symptoms. The long term effects may include persistent sensory loss, chronic pain and depression. It is crucial to understand the pathophysiology of the nerve injury from lower third molar surgery. Surgery remains the most promising treatment in moderate-to-severe nerve injuries. There are limitations in the current treatment methods and full recovery is not commonly achievable. It is better to prevent nerve injury than to treat with unpredictable results. Coronectomy has been proved to be effective in reducing IAN injury and carries minimal long-term morbidity. New technologies, like the roles of erythropoietin and stem cell therapy, are being investigated for neuroprotection and neural regeneration. Breakthroughs in basic and translational research are required to improve the clinical outcomes of the current treatment modalities of third molar surgery-related nerve injury.

  • This corpus-based study investigated third language acquisition by Taiwanese college students in learning Spanish clitic pronouns at beginning and intermediate levels. It examined the acquisition sequences of Spanish clitic pronouns of the Chinese-speaking learners whose second language was English and third language was Spanish. The results indicated that indirect object pronouns (OP) preceded direct OP (case), first person preceded third person OP (person), masculine preceded feminine OP (gender), and animate preceded inanimate OP (animacy). The findings presented similar patterns as those of previous studies on English-speaking learners of Spanish. In further comparisons of the target forms in Chinese, English, and Spanish, the results suggested that L1 Chinese had strong influence on L3 Spanish, which accounts for the challenges that Taiwanese learners of Spanish face as they learn the Spanish clitic pronouns in the beginning stage.

  • A 15-year-old Schnauzer, showing right exophthalmos, was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma originated from the third eyelid gland. On computed tomography, a normal right third eyelid gland was not observed. Instead, a heterogeneous cystic mass invaded the retrobulbar space and displaced the eye globe dorsolaterally. In addition, lysis of the bony nasolacrimal duct was found, which was considered the tumor invasion. These findings indicated that third eyelid gland adenocarcinoma should be considered when a retrobulbar mass is found ventromedial to the globe without observation of the normal third eyelid and accompanies osteolysis of the bony nasolacrimal duct in dogs showing exophthalmos.

  • Impacted mandibular third molar removal is the most common procedure performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. An array of alternative procedures have been suggested, like operculectomy in cases of pericoronitis and coronectomy in certain cases. However, these procedures pose several disadvantages, and we propose a relatively non-invasive 'straight lift technique'. This technique is specifically useful in straightening abnormally positioned mesioangular third molars as a substitute of complete removal. This can improve tooth function, eliminate the need for surgical intervention, and reduce the risk of complications associated with third molar removal.
