This study has been conducted to investigate the effect of GA3 solution dipping treatment after 1 days full bloom on spike growth and fruit quality at harvest of 'Campbell Early' grapevine. The fruit cluster growth(weight, length, width) and fruit stalk(diameter, length) at harvest were increased significantly by GA3 10 mg·L-1 solution dipping treatment compared to control and another concentration. The berry growth (berry No, weight, length, diameter) at harvest showed no difference by treatment GA3 concentration different. Spike weight was increased by GA3 5, 10, 20, mg·L-1 treatment compared to control, but no difference GA3 40 mg·L-1 treatment. The degree of compact berry, bloom, skin color and SSC at harvest by GA3 solution dipping treatment were not significantly different from those of control. but increased seedlessness induction by GA3 10 mg·L-1 treatment. The occurrence percent of berry cracking by GA3 5, 10, 20, 40 mg·L-1 treatment significantly decreased. The bitter rot of berry harvest showed no difference by treatment GA3 concentration different. Total spike length was increased by GA3 5, 10 mg·L-1 treatment compared to control and GA3 20, 40 mg·L-1 treatment. The spike length of 1st from 15th to position increased by GA3 10 mg·L-1 treatment.

Muscle atrophy, which is defined as a decrease in muscle mass and strength, is caused by an imbalance between the anabolism and catabolism of muscle proteins. Thus, modulating the homeostasis between muscle protein synthesis and degradation represents an efficient treatment approach for this condition. In the present study, the protective effects against muscle atrophy of ethanol extracts of Morus alba L. (MA) and Angelica keiskei Koidz. (AK) leaves and their mixtures (MIX) were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Our results showed that MIX increased 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide-induced C2C12 myotube thinning, and enhanced soleus and gastrocnemius muscle thickness compared to each extract alone in dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy Sprague Dawley rats. In addition, although MA and AK substantially improved grip strength and histological changes for dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy in vivo, the efficacy was superior in the MIX-treated group. Moreover, MIX further increased the expression levels of myogenic factors (MyoD and myogenin) and decreased the expression levels of E3 ubiquitin ligases (atrogin-1 and muscle-specific RING finger protein-1) in vitro and in vivo compared to the MA- and AK-alone treatment groups. Furthermore, MIX increased the levels of phosphorylated phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), protein kinase B (Akt), and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) that were reduced by dexamethasone, and downregulated the expression of forkhead box O3 (FoxO3a) induced by dexamethasone. These results suggest that MIX has a protective effect against muscle atrophy by enhancing muscle protein anabolism through the activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and attenuating catabolism through the inhibition of FoxO3a.
'Sinano Sweet' apple trees were defoliated at intervals of a month from May to October to simulate damage occured by hail and typhoon in Korea, accordingly fruit yield, reserve accumulations and return bloom were investigated. As the more severe defoliation degree was and earlier defoliation time was, fruit weight and fruit yields were more decreased. Fruit weight and yields of 30% defoliated trees, regardless of the defoliation time, showed no significant difference with those of control. Because carbohydrate contents of the 2-year old branches defoliated before August were even lower than those of branches defoliated after September, it was considered that defoliation time is more effective on the carbohydrate content than defoliation degree. Among the trees defoliated before August, 50% defoliated trees at August contained the lowest carbohydrate by 50% of control. Time and degree of defoliation had an effect on the number of flower buds following year. The number of return bloom in trees defoliated from May to July was decreased by delay of defoliation time and was the lowest in trees defoliated at July. On the other hand, it was not have a significant different between control and trees defoliated since August. Relationship between the number of return bloom and carbohydrate reserves showed positive correlation. As a result, it is considered that fruit thinning, when defoliation occurred in the growing season, needs for strengthening the sink function of remained individual fruit effect on fruit enlargement and for increaseing the carbohydrate reserve effect on return bloom.

Injectable calcium phosphate cement (CPC) has been used as bone substitute successfully due to good biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. One of the important mechanical characteristics of CPC is flowablility, which can be evaluated by measuring rheological parameters. However, there have been few studies that measured rheological properties of CPC. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of temperature and concentrations of 2 kinds of setting solutions, hydroxyprophyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and polyacrylic acid (PAA), on rheological properties of CPC. The CPC used was dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD). Rheological properties of CPC paste were measured using rheometer. The effect of concentrations of each solution (2% and 1% HPMC and 35% and 17.5% PAA) was evaluated. The effect of temperature ($25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$) on the rheological properties of CPC was also investigated. The statistical analysis was carried out with Mann-whitney test with Bonferronis collection. CPC with both setting solutions showed shear thinning behavior. Higher concentrations of setting solution (2% HPMC and 35% PAA) produced significantly higher viscosity than lower concentrations of setting solution (1% HPMC and 17.5% PAA). CPC with HPMC showed significantly higher viscosity at $37^{\circ}C$ that at $25^{\circ}C$. CPC with PAA showed lower viscosity at $37^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$, although the difference was not statistically significant. The results showed that CPC with HPMC or PAA solutions are pseudoplastic and the concentrations of setting solutions and temperature may have an effect on the rheological properties of CPC paste. These results showed that the flowability of injectable CPC could be improved by use of increasing frequency of oscillation. In clinical practice, the use of ultrasonic vibration would be helpful in application of injectable CPC. CPC with HPMC could be more easily applicated at $25^{\circ}C$ than $37^{\circ}C$. The use of lower concentrations of HPMC and PAA solution would be beneficial in terms of flowability.
This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of forest management practices on pH and electrical conductivity to get fundamental information on water purification capacity after forest operation. Rainfall, throughfall and stemflow were sampled at the study sites which consist of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis in Gwangreung Experimental Forest for S months from May to November 1999. Mean pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event was higher in management (thinning and pruning) sites of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis stands than nonmanagement site of Abies holophylla and Pinus koraiensis stands. In addition, pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event showed similar trends which are higher pH in the management sites compared with the non- management sites. This result indicates that managements such as thinning and pruning improve tree butler capacity of rainfall pH. According to the linear regression results, pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.735${\times}$pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+1.849 ($R^2\;=\;0.82$) and pH of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in management sites= 0.863${\times}$pH of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in management sites +1.0242 ($R^2\;=\;0.87$). In case of stemflow pH, pH of the sternflow of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.53${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in non- management sites+2.7709 ($R^2\;=\;0.64$) and pH of the stemflow of the total amount of the event in management sites = 0.5854${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in management sites+2.7045 ($R^2\;=\;0.65$). Electrical conductivity (EC) of the throughfall of the beginning and total amount of the event was highest in non- management site in Abies holophylla, followed by management sites in fsies Abies holophylla, non-management site in Pinus koraiensis, and management sites in Pinus koraiensis stands, respectively. According to the linear regression results, EC of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in non-managementsites = 0.4045${\times}$EC of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+26.766 ($R^2\;=\;0.69$) and EC of the throughfall of the total amount of the event in management sites = 0.6002${\times}$EC of the throughfall of the beginning of the event in management sites+8.0184 ($R^2\;=\;0.54$). In case of stemflow EC, EC of thestemflow of the total amount of the event in non-management sites = 0.6298${\times}$EC of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in non-management sites+11.582 ($R^2\;=\;0.72$) and pH of the stemflow of the total amount of the event in management sites =0.602${\times}$pH of the stemflow of the beginning of the event in management sites+20.783($R^2\;=\;0.49$).
BACKGROUND: The buds of persimmon trees are susceptible to cold damage, often with the late frost, at the time of budburst. This study was conducted to determine effect of the cold damage on shoot and fruit growth the current season. METHODS AND RESULTS: 'Fuyu' trees, grown in 50-L pots, were placed for 1 h at $-2.2{\pm}0.5$, $-2.6{\pm}0.5$, or $-3.0{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ within a cold storage, at their budburst on April 5. Some trees under ambient temperature at $10-17^{\circ}C$ served as the control. Cold damage of the buds containing flower buds was 54% at $-2.2^{\circ}C$, and significantly increased to 95% at $-3.0^{\circ}C$. The bud damage included the complete death of all, complete death of main buds only, or the late and deformed shoot growth in the spring. Number of flower buds in early May dramatically decreased as the damage ratio increased. Since the thinning of flower buds in mid-May and fruitlets in early July was done in no or slightly damaged trees, the final number of fruits and yield did not decrease compared with the control when the damage increased by 60% and 70%, respectively. Average fruit weight and skin coloration tended to be better with increasing bud damage. Shoot growth was more vigorous in those trees whose buds were severely damaged by low temperature. CONCLUSION(S): Shoot growth and the yield may depend on the number of flower buds and percent fruit set after the cold damage.

The habit of finger sucking is a reflex occurring in the oral stage, due to nutritive and psychological desire. The habit of finger sucking is considered to be normal till 3 years of age. Dento-skeletal effect on maxillo-mandibular complex including occlusion is naturally correction, when habit stopped before 3 years. If finger sucking continues till $3{\sim}4$ years, Finger sucking leads to severe malocclusion and remarkable discrepancy maxillo-mandibular complex, which is difficult in expectation of natural correction. It is necessary to positive treatment. Treatment of malocclusion, as related to finger sucking is classified two methods. (psychological approach and orthodontic appliance) To stop a habit and to correct severe skeletal discrepancy and malocclusion, $fr\ddot{a}nkel$ appliance is very effective device. This study is to report two cases of treatment of malocclusion, as related to finger sucking. 2 years 10 months old girl with severe overjet, maxillo-mandibular skeletal discrepancy and severe convex facial profile was treated with a FR-II appliance. Finger sucking habit stopped immediately After 16 months, severe overjet, maxillo-mandibular skeletal discrepancy and severe convex facial profile was corrected. 4 years 2 months old girl with midline deviation, mandibular right shift, collateral posterior crossbite and facial asymmetry was treated with a FR-III appliance. Finger sucking habit stopped immediately. After 10 month, Midline deviation, mandibular right shift, collateral posterior crossbite and facial asymmetry were corrected. FR-appliance is a recommendable appliance for a habit breaker and correction of skeletal discrepancy.

Direct seeding of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) has a problem of low yield including poor establishment. This poor establishment results from poor quality seed, poor seedbed preparation, seedling pests, poor sowing technique and high soil temperature. This study sought to establish the age at which sorghum seedlings can be transplanted with minimal effects on grain yield. Transplants were raised in 128 nursery tray pot. Five seedling ages were established by transplanting at 10 (T10), 15 (T15), 20 (T20), 25 (T25) and 30 (T30) days after planting (DAP). The treatment combinations were arranged in a randomized complete block design and replicated three times with an individual plot size of $6{\times}5m^2$. Each plot had five ridges with a planting space of $0.60{\times}0.20m^2$ at one plants per stand. Results showed that seedling age on transplanting significantly affected growths and yields to sorghum after transplanting. Plant heights and diameters of transplants at T15 were longer than the other transplants. Conclusively, The advantages of this practice were better control of crop density and greater yields; either to fill gaps after emerging and thinning of crops or to compensate for a growth period that was too short for a complete crop cycle.
This experiment was conducted to clarify the effects of source and sink related characteristics on grain weight increase and grain nitrogen accumulation in rice. Source was modified by leaf removing treatment with no sink modification in 2002 and sink and source were modified at the same time by different sowing dates, N fertilization rates, row spacings, and thinning treatments at heading in 2007. Grain weight (GW) and grain assimilates produced by photosynthesis during grain-filling ($GW_P$) increased with the increase of source, while the grain assimilates retranslocated from leaf and stem ($GW_T$) decreased. Among the source-related characters, shoot dry weight were most closely related with GW. GW was dependant on $GW_P$ rather than on $GW_T$. Grain nitrogen content (GN) and grain nitrogen absorbed from soil during grain-filling ($GN_S$) increased with the increase of source, while the grain nitrogen retranslocated from leaf and stem ($GN_T$) decreased. Shoot nitrogen content among the source-related characters was related most closely with GN. The contribution of $GN_T$ to GN was relatively large although GN depended more largely on $GN_S$ than $GN_T$. In addition, GN was supplied firstly from $GN_S$ or from $GN_S$ and $GN_T$ at the same time.
