Proposal of Electronic Engineering Exploration Learning Operation Using Computing Thinking Ability

  • The purpose of the study is to develop effective teaching methods to strengthen the major learning capabilities of electronic engineering learners through inquiry learning using computing thinking ability. To this end, first, in the electronic engineering curriculum, we performed teaching-learning through an inquiry and learning model related to mathematics, probability, and statistics under the theme of various majors in electronic engineering, focusing on understanding computing thinking skills. Second, an efficient electronic engineering subject inquiry class operation using computing thinking ability was conducted, and electronic engineering-linked education contents based on the components of computer thinking were presented. Third, by conducting a case study on inquiry-style teaching using computing thinking skills in the electronic engineering curriculum, we identified the validity of the teaching method to strengthen major competency. In order to prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution, by implementing mathematics, probability, statistics-related linkage, and convergence education to foster convergent talent, we tried to present effective electronic engineering major competency enhancement measures and cope with innovative technological changes.

A Development of a Puzzle-Based Computer Science Instruction Model and Learning Program to improve Computational Thinking for Elementary School Students (초등학생의 컴퓨팅 사고력 신장을 위한 퍼즐 기반 컴퓨터과학 수업모형 및 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Puzzle-Based Computer Science Instruction Model and Learning Program and to confirm the effects. To do so, we selected 2 classes with a similar level of pre-computational thinking in elementary schools in the Jeju Province. After that, from 2 classes, we designated the 5th grade students in 'D' elementary school as group A and designated students of the same grade in 'J' elementary school as group B. In a total of 28 sessions during an 18 week period, a Puzzle-Based Computer Science Learning Program was used with 31 students in group A, and the traditional computer science course was used with 25 students in group B. The results showed that there were significant improvements in computational thinking, which is computational cognition and its creativity, of the students in group A compared to students in group B. Also, this study proved that the Puzzle-Based program correlated with positive changes group A students' Science-Related Affective Domain. In this paper, on the basis of proven effectiveness, we introduce the Puzzle-Based Computer Science Instruction Model and Learning Program as an alternative to traditional, computer science education.

Analysis of Systems Thinking Level of Pre-service Teachers about Carbon Cycle in Earth Systems using Rubrics of Evaluating Systems Thinking (시스템 사고 평가 루브릭을 활용한 예비교사들의 지구 시스템 내 탄소 순환에 대한 시스템 사고 수준 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the systems thinking level of pre-service teachers using rubrics of evaluating systems thinking. For this purpose, systems thinking level model, which can be applied to education or science education, was selected through literature analysis. Eight pre-service teachers' systems thinking were investigated through the systems thinking analysis tool used in domestic research. The systems thinking presented by the pre-service teachers were transformed into the box type causal map using Sibley et al. (2007). Two researchers analyzed the systems thinking using rubrics of evaluating systems thinking. For data analysis, quantitative analysis was performed through correlation analysis using SPSS. In addition, the qualitative analysis of the box type causal map was conducted and the consistency with the quantitative analysis results was verified. The results indicated that the correlation between the 5-Likert systems thinking measurement instrument and the rubrics score was highly correlated with the Pearson product-moment of .762 (p <.05). In the hierarchical correlation of the systems thinking level, the STH model was analyzed with a very high correlation with the Pearson product-moment of .722~.791, and 4-step model was analyzed .381~.730. The qualitative analysis suggested the concept to be included in the low level of system thinking, the higher the level, the less the concept that is presented properly. In conclusion, the level of systems thinking can be derived as a result of research that there is clearly, a hierarchical part. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a systems thinking level model applicable to science education and develop and validate items that can measure the level of systems thinking.

A Study on Students' Creativity Thinking, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Digital Competence by Implementing Science Fiction STEAM Program (소설 기반 STEAM 프로그램 적용과 학생 역량 연구: 창의적 사고, 비판적 사고, 의사소통, 협업, 디지털 역량)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' competencies of creativity thinking, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and digital competence by implementing science fiction STEAM program. Based on the story of 'Fritz Haber' and the 'Garden of Dawn', a STEAM program was developed according to the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, the purpose of the teaching-learning program using novels was set, and learners and learning environments were analyzed. At the design stage, the novels 'Fritz Harbor' and 'Garden of Dawn' were selected, learning goals were set according to the achievement standards of the curriculum, and learning contents and learning activities were sequenced and designed. In the development stage, teaching and learning materials were developed in a module format, implemented to classes, and evaluated. Pre-test and post-tests were conducted to identify the five major competencies such as creativity thinking, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, digital competence. The collected data was verified by paired t-test using SPSS. The results of the study showed statistically significant results in creative thinking, critical thinking, and digital competency.

  • Maker Activity based Design-Thinking 5 Step is a better experience for providing the public with a better approach to design by sympathizing with human needs and exploring the public's potential desires. This paper studied the teaching method by applying the value of the Maker Training that emphasizes the importance of sharing and opening results with others after creating them based on the ideas of the learners using different tools, the basic mind of Design-Thinking with the observation and empathy about human beings and the derivation of user-centric results to the SW coding curriculum. For this purpose, we studied teaching methods by Design-thinking based on sections that require coding in the information classes of the secondary school curriculum. We demonstrated the class to a group of education experts by applying the syllabus of instruction. Then we collected evaluations and opinions of the experts and we modified the syllabus to reflect the collected assessment. Under the Design-thinking 5 step foundation, classes were demonstrated with a group of education experts, opinions collected, and suggestions collected were reflected on the assessment outcome. I think that It is an effective training opportunity to practice a widespread idea that enables infinite thinking and a convergence of thinking that brings out the best decision from a widespread idea.

A Model and Practical Example of the Thinking Extension Education Program for the Elementary Information-Gifted Students Using the Trees (트리를 이용한 초등정보영재의 사고력 신장을 위한 교육 프로그램 모형과 실제)

  • The core part of education program of the gifted students in information is the thinking ability extension of the programming. We propose four phases of the education model : (1) problem understanding (2) visualization (3) symbolization (4) algorithmization. This model of four phases is applied to learn the abstract concept of recursion using the data structure of Tree. This model is verified by presenting the example of 'Hanoi Tower' to stimulate intellectual curiosity of the students and help to expand their thinking strength. Also, we show the characteristics of which the teaching subjects and learning activities have, by presenting and clarifying the type of education program, properties of the learning contents, and lower level components. The students can deepen and foster the growth of the learning contents by the students' activities of self-evaluation, and their thinking abilities are increased by the guidances of their teachers.

Clinical Dental Hygiene Education and Practice based on Dental Hygiene Process (치위생 과정 기반의 임상 치위생 교육과 실무)

  • Dental hygiene was originated from dentistry and dental hygiene knowledge was a component of dental knowledge body. Since the late 1980s dental hygiene theory was began to develop. Nursing theories such as metaparadigm, nursing process and human need theory affected theory development as dental hygiene process. Dental hygiene process provides a framework for high quality dental hygiene care. Dental hygiene process include five phases; assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, dental hygiene planning, implementation, evaluation. Dental hygiene process of care is recognized as standard for dental hygiene education and clinical dental hygiene practice. Dental hygiene practice has moved from auxiliary model to professional model. Critical thinking skill and disposition are necessary to provide evidence-based dental hygiene care using dental hygiene process as clinical process and critical thinking process. Critical thinking, problem solving and evidence-based practice must be integrated into dental hygiene process for quality dental hygiene care.

Fostering Students' Statistical Thinking through Data Modelling

  • Statistical thinking has a broad definition but focuses on the context of regression modelling in the present study. To foster students' statistical thinking within the context, teaching should no longer be seen as transfer of knowledge from teacher to students but as a process of engaging with learning activities in which they develop ownership of knowledge. This study aims at collaborative learning contexts; students were divided into small groups in order to increase opportunities for peer collaboration. Each group of students was asked to do a regression project after class. Through doing the project, they learnt to organize and connect previously accrued piecemeal statistical knowledge in an integrated manner. They could also clarify misunderstandings and solve problems through verbal exchanges among themselves. They gave a clear and lucid account of the model they had built and showed collaborative interactions when presenting their projects in front of class. A survey was conducted to solicit their feedback on how peer collaboration would facilitate learning of statistics. Almost all students found their interaction with their peers productive; they focused on the development of statistical thinking with concerted effort.

Critical Thinking Disposition and Clinical Competence in General Hospital Nurses (종합병원 간호사의 비판적 사고성향과 임상수행능력)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the relationship between critical thinking disposition and clinical competence among nurses in general hospitals. Methods: This study was a descriptive-correlational study with a convenience sample of 560 nurses from 5 general hospitals. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. Critical thinking disposition was measured using the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale for Nursing Students. Clinical competence was measured using the Standardized Nurse Performance Appraisal Tool. Results: The mean score for critical thinking disposition and clinical competence was 3.37 and 4.10 respectively on a 5 point scale. A statistically significant correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and clinical competence. A regression model explained 72.8% of clinical competence. Prudence is the most significant predictor of clinical competence ($R^2=.728$). Conclusion: Study findings suggest that nurses with a higher level of critical thinking disposition would have a higher level of clinical competence. Furthermore, prudence might be the most important predictor of clinical competence. In order to strengthen clinical competence in nurses, the development and enhancement of critical thinking should be emphasized at the college level and nurses should be encouraged to make a clinical decision with greater prudence.

A Study on the Adaption of Creative Thinking Methodologies in the Spatial Design - Focused on TRIZ - (창조적 사고 방법의 공간디자인 적용에 관한 연구 - 트리즈를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to recognize that creative thinking methodologies can be adopted in the spatial design. The concept of 'Convergent' and 'Divergent' used in structure of intellect model by Guilford is chosen to understand the character of creative thinking methodologies. Technical and physical contradictions is analyzed for '40 inventive principles' of TRIZ and spatial design works. Through this study, we recognize that the creative thinking methodologies consist of analysis, idea generation and evaluation phase. The psychological inertia that limits the creative thinking should be move away from solving problem, and convergent and divergent thinking have peculiarities to be adopted in condition and to be harmonized, and to set the direction of solving technical problems through to reach the target point integrated way of thinking is needed. '40 inventive principles' by Altshuller are based on engineering and useful in many areas of fields. However some principles are not accepted in design process because these are not considered in design field and paradigm is changed from machine to nature. Nowadays, nature is a prime issue for sustainable human life, because it has sustainable recycle structure and saving energy ways. Thus, creative thinking, including TRIZ is useful in design education and progress, and should be an essential element to get a new design paradigm.
