Analysis of the Pultrusion Process of Thermosetting Composites Containing Volatiles (휘발물질이 존재하는 열경화성수지 복합재료의 Pultrusion 공정 해석)

  • Analysis of pultrusion process for the thermosetting composites containing volatiles was performed. Degree of cure, amount of volatile evolved and pulling force were calculated for the processing variables such as die temperature and pulling speed. Cure kinetics was modeled from the data obtained by DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimeter). The volatile evolution kinetics was modeled from the data by DSC as well as TGA(Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer). The cure kinetics and volatile evolution kinetics models were incorporated into the energy equation. The resulting governing equation was solved using finite element method. Pulling force was calculated through the analysis of pressure developed inside the pultrusion die. Experiments were performed and the data were compared with the calculated results. Good agreements were observed.

  • In this paper, heat-releasing sheets made of AlN powder and acryl binder as thermoset were prepared using tape casting method. The crystal structure and morphology, the thermal properties as nonvolatile solid content and thermal conductivity, and the surface resistance of heat-releasing sheet were measured by using X-ray diffractometer, field emission-scanning electron microscopy, thermo gravimetric analyzer and laser flash instrument, and surface resistance meter. It was proved that thermal conductivity is greatly affected by the content of binder in heat-releasing sheet. Superior thermal conductivity above 3.5 W/mK and suface resistance were obtained at heat-releasing sheet with above 90% of AlN powder.

  • Crack-free hard coating siIica films were prepared by sol-gel processfrom twokinds of silicon alkoxide (tetra-ethoxysilane and methyltrimethoxysilane) and two kinds of alcohol (methanol and isopropyl alcohol) with an acid catalyst,acetic acid. A silicate framework of the precursor solution was investigated by infrared spectros-copy (IR) in the process of hydrolysis and condensation. Theextent of the condensation in the intermediates was elucidated by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and 29Si-NMR spectroscopy. The hard coating films werecharacterized by IR,scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) and dif-ferential scanning calroimeter (DSC). The synthetic condition for the crack-free and transparent silica film for-mation was optimized interms of starting materials for the precursor solution as well as preparation method of the silica film.

  • This study, evaluated the effect of changes in the chemical composition of cement on the hydration reaction for carbon neutrality. For this purpose, changes in the chemical bound water and heat of hydration between current cement and past cement were compared. As a result, it was found that both the chemically bound water and heat of hydration of currently used cement decreased.

  • Recently, many efforts to solve the durability problem of PEM fuel cell are carried on constantly. However, despite this attention, durability researches of gas diffusion layer (GDL) are not much reported yet. Generally, GDL of PEM fuel cell experiences three external attacks, which are dissolution of water, erosion of gas flow, corrosion of electric potential. In this study, among these degradation factors, carbon corrosion of electric potential was focused and investigated with accelerated carbon corrosion test. Through the test, it is confirmed that carbon corrosion occurred at GDL, and corroded GDL decreased a performance of operating fuel cell. The property changes of GDL were measured with various methods such as air permeability meter, pore distribution analyzer, thermo gravimetric analyzer, and tensile stress test to discover the effects of carbon corrosion. Carbon corrosion caused not only loss of weight and thickness, but also degradation of mechanical strength of GDL. In addition, to analysis the reason of GDL property changes, a surface and a cross section of GDL were observed with scanning electron microscope. After 100 hours test, the GDL showed serious damage in center of layer.

  • Various poly(amic acid)s were synthesized from PMDA/BPDA/p-PDA/ODA with different mole ratios and effectively converted into 4-component polyimide films by thermal imidization. The chemical structures and thermo-mechanical properties of polyimide films were examined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), thermo-mechanical analyzer (TMA), dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) and universal tensile machine (UTM). The tensile strength, modulus, and thermal properties of polyimides films increased with the amount of rigid PMDA and p-PDA, while the elongation and moisture absorption of polyimide films increased with the amount of flexible BPDA and ODA. One of 4-component polyimide films exhibited a similar coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) value to that of copper when it was composed of PMDA : BPDA : p-PDA : ODA with the ratio of 5 : 5 : 4 : 6. Thus, this polyimide film could be useful for a base film for flexible copper clad laminates (FCCL) of flexible printed circuit boards.

  • The lithium polymer battery with polymer electrolyte is expected as a safe and long cycle life battery. This paper reports primarily the recent development results of a solid polymer electrolyte, which is a key point of the secondary battery system. The new type of polymer electrolyte was prepared under a dry Ar atmosphere by dissolving $LiCIO_4$ in a matrix of EC, PC and then dispersing polyacrylonitrile(PAN). Also adding some inorganic filler $Al_2O_3$. The dispersed solution heated at $120^{\circ}C$. The polymer electrolyte were characterized by EIS(Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), TGA(Thermo Gravimetric analysis), DMA(Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer), DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The lithium ion yield is 0.29 when PAN-$Al_2O_3$ which was applied DC 5mV. The ionic conductivity of PAN, PAN-$Al_2O_3$ polymer electrolytes were showed $1.0{\times}10^{-4}S/cm$, $8.4{\times}10^{-4}S/cm$ at room temperature. When inorganic filler was added in the polymer electrolyte, ionic conductivity and lithium yield more larger than without inorganic filler.

Removal of Sr and Cs Ions in Aqueous Solution by PVC-Zeolite Composite (PVC-Zeolite 복합체에 의한 수용액 중의 Sr 이온과 Cs 이온의 제거)

  • PVC-Zeolite composite was prepared by immobilizing zeolite with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The prepared PVC-Zeolite beads were characterized by using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The removal properties of Sr and Cs ions from aqueous solution were investigated in batch experiment. The removal efficiencies of Sr and Cs ions by the PVC-Zeolite beads were dependent on the initial pH of solution. The removal efficiencies sharply increased at below pH 4 and was kept constant at pH 4 or more. The adsorption kinetics of Sr and Cs ions by the PVC-Zeolite beads were fitted well by the pseudo-second-order model ($r^2$>0.99) more than pseudo-first-order model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Sr and Cs ions calculated from Langmuir isotherm model were 39.37 mg/g and 55.87 mg/g, respectively.

  • Experimental work was carried out to study the combustion kinetics of the Indian coal-char in the varying mixture of carbon dioxide-oxygen ($CO_2-O_2$). The coal sample was pulverized and sieved to less than 58 microns and charred using volatile furnace by passing the nitrogen gas. The experiments were carried out using the Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA-50) at CPRI, Bangalore, different proportions of ($CO_2-O_2$) gas was allowed in to the TGA-50 (80-20, 60-40, 40-60, 20-80) mole basis were used to study the combustion kinetics of coal Isothermally, kinetic parameters like Activation energy (E) and the pre-exponential factors (A) are calculated using the unification approach and modified Arrhenius equation.

  • Two different diene monomers [dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and 5-ethylidene-2-norbomene (ENB)] as self­healing agent for polymeric composites were microencapsuled by in-situ polymerization of urea and formaldehyde. The healing agents were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Exothermic reaction and glass transition temperature from DSC and storage modulus (G') and tan $\delta$ from DMA curves were analyzed for the samples cured for 5 min and 24 h in the presence of different amounts of catalyst. Micorcapsules were successfully formed for both diene monomers. Microcapsules containing the healing agent were manufactured and its thermal properties were characterized by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). Optical microscope (OM) and particle size analyzer (PSA) were employed to observe morphology and size distribution of microcapsules, respectively. Comparison of the two self-healing agents and their microcapsules with the two was made in this study.
