  • This paper presents the thermal and electrical characteristics of ZnO arrester blocks under the AC voltages. The leakage currents of ZnO arrester blocks were measured as a function of the time. The temperature distributions of ZnO arrester blocks were observed by the thermal image infrared camera. The degradation and thermal runaway of ZnO arrester blocks were closely related to the temperature limit of ZnO arrester blocks which being decided heat generation and dissipation. The temperature and leakage current of ZnO arrester blocks were sensitively changed in a resistance of ZnO arrester blocks. As a result, the degradation and thermal runaway of ZnO arrester blocks depend on the temperature and leakage current of ZnO arrester blocks.

  • In this paper, we optimized and simulated the heatsink of 75W LED module for street lighting and evaluated the optical properties with the manufactured heatsink. the structure of LED package make simple as chip and heatslug and thermal flow is analyzed by using the FEM(Finite Element Method) with CFdesign V10. Also, we measured the temperature of heatsink and evaluated the optical properties with infrared thermal image camera and integrated sphere system for luminous flux in $1\;[m^3]$ box. As results, Heatsink optimized in 3 mm pin thickness, 6 mm base thickness and 16 number of pin count by using Heatsink-designer and got the results which is the temperature of $47.37\;[^{\circ}C]$ and thermal resistance of $0.48407\;[W/^{\circ}C]$. In thermal flow simulation, the temperature of heatsink decreased from $51.54\;[^{\circ}C]$ to $51.51\;[^{\circ}C]$ and the temperature of heatsink by the time in real measurement decreased from $47.03\;[^{\circ}C]$ to $46.87\;[^{\circ}C]$. Moreover, we improve 0.68 % in the decreased ratio of the luminous flux.

  • With the rise in popularity of photographic and video cameras, an increasing number of fields are now using thermal imaging cameras. One such application is in the diagnosis of breast cancer, as thermal imaging provides a low-cost and noninvasive method. Thermal imaging is particularly safe for pregnant women, and those with large, dense, or sensitive breasts. In addition, excessive doses of radiation, which may be used in traditional methods of breast cancer detection, can increase the risk of cancer. This paper presents one method of breast cancer detection. Breast images were taken using a thermal camera, with preliminary experiments conducted on Cambodian women. Then the experimental results were analyzed and compared using Shannon entropy and logistic regression.

  • Urbanization due to population growth and regional development can cause various environmental problems, such as the urban heat island phenomenon. A planned city is considered an appropriate study site to analyze changes in urban climate caused by rapid urbanization in a short-term period. In this study, changes in land cover and surface heat island phenomenon were analyzed according to the development plan in Sejong City from 2013 to 2020 using Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager/Thermal Infrared Sensor (OLI/TIRS) satellite imagery. The surface temperature was calculated in consideration of the thermal infrared band value provided by the satellite image and the emissivity, and based on this the surface heat island effect intensity and Urban Thermal Field Variance Index (UTFVI) change analysis were performed. The level-2 land cover map provided by the Ministry of Environment was used to confirm the change in land cover as the development progressed and the difference in the surface heat island intensity by each land cover. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the urbanized area increased by 15% and the vegetation decreased by more than 28%. Expansion and intensification of the heat island phenomenon due to urban development were observed, and it was confirmed that the ecological level of the area where the heat island phenomenon occurred was very low. Therefore, It can suggest the need for a policy to improve the residential environment according to the quantitative change of the thermal environment due to rapid urbanization.

  • Automated greenhouse production system often require crop growth monitoring involving accurate quantification of plant physiological properties. Conventional methods are usually burdensome, inaccurate, and harmful to crops. A thermal image analysis system can accomplish rapid and accurate measurements of physiological-property changes of stressed crops. In this research a thermal imaging system was used to measure the leaf-temperature changes of several crops according to nutrient stresses. Thermal images were obtained from lettuce, cucumber, and pepper plants. Plants were placed in growth chamber to provide relatively constant growth environment. Results showed that there were significant differences in the temperature of stressed plants and non-stressed plants. In a case of the both N deficiency and excess, the leaf temperatures of cucumber were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature. The leaf temperature of cucumber was $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controlled temperature only when it was under N excess stress. For the potassium deficiency or excess stress, the leaf temperaures of cucumber and hot pepper were $2^{\circ}C$ lower than controls, respectively. The phosphorous deficiency stress dropped the leaf temperatures of cucumber and hot pepper $2^{\circ}C$ and $1.5^{\circ}C$ below than controls. However, the leaf temperature of lettuce did not change. It was possible to detect the changes in leaf temperature by infrared thermography when subjected to nutrition stress. Since the changes in leaf temperatures were different each other for plants and kinds of stresses, however, it is necessary to add a nutrient measurement system to a plant-growth monitoring system using thermography.

  • Characteristics of sea surface temperature(SST) difference around Gwang-Yang steel Mill where can affect marine ecosystem in Gwang-Yang bay using 25 collected Landsat-7 ETM+ thermal infrared band data from 2000 to 2010. To analyze accuracy of SST from the Landsat-7 ETM+ thermal infrared image, satellite-induced SST was verfied by compared Yeo-Su tide station and Landsat thermal image. As a result, SST from Landsat-7 ETM+ is $1.22^{\circ}C$ lower than sea temperature from Yeo-Su tide station and correlation coefficient resulted in above 0.991 which means that correlation coefficient between Landsat image temperature and field sea temperature is relatively high. Five regions were selected to analyze sea surface temperature between near Gwang-Yang steel mill and the open sea and analyzed timeseries of sea surface temperature seasonally and regionally. Moreover, the additional analysis has been carried out by comparing the averaged temperatures of Gwang-Yang and Soon-Cheon bays using the dataset over a year.

  • Grab cranes are used for multi-purpose when the sand and soil are deposited into harbor wharf or the undersea construction is performed. Among the components of crane grab, the wire drum and disc brake pad are key expendables and have disadvantages that lot of heat is generated and very expensive when replacing them. In this study, the thermal image analysis for the disc brake, which works with wire drum of the crane is suggested. The suggested system performs the pad thermal diagnosis through the thermal image using the characteristics that the disc and pad surface temperatures are distributed abnormally before the brake failure and the disc pad damage. Therefore, the damage by the failure can be prevented by discovering the abnormality of the machine parts before failure and the life cycle of the pad and the cost can be extended and saved by operating the crane performing constant checkup for the overload.

  • The biotic stress of garlic and tobacco infected by bacteria and virus was evaluated using a thermal imaging camera in a growth chamber. The remote sensing technique using the thermal camera detected that garlic leaf temperature increased when the leaves were infected by bacterial soft rot of garlic. Furthermore, the temperature of leaf was relatively high for the leaves where the colony-forming unit per mL was large. Such temperature patterns were detected for tobacco leaves infected by Cucumber Mosaic Virus using thermal images. In addition, the crop water stress index (CWSI) calculated from leaf temperature also increased for the leaves infected by the virus. The event such that CWSI increased by the infection of the virus occurred before visual disease symptom appeared. Our results suggest that the thermal imaging camera would be useful for the development of crop remote sensing technique, which can be applied to a smart farm.
