Low-density silica gel monolith was synthesized at ambient pressure by surface modification with TMCS and sub-sequent heat treatment. The mechanical thermal and optical properties of gel were studied. Compressive strength and modulus of compression of 350$^{\circ}C$-heated gel with the density of 0.24g/cm3 were 250kPa and 0.2MPa respectively. The thermal conductivity of silica gels synthesized at ambient pressure exhibited 0.02 W/m$.$K for the density of 0.24g/cm3 which is similar to that of the gel via supercritical drying and their main thermal transfer mechanism is considered to be solid and radiation conduction at room temperature. Ambient-dried silica gels were transparent blue showing about 60% of transmittance in the wavelength of 1500-2100nm and typical absorption bands of existing bonds under heat treatment at 350$^{\circ}C$. Medium scale monolity(${\Phi}$=50mm) at ambient pressure could be successfully prepared through total 5-month process period.

In recent years, it has been urgently required to develop and study a product that adsorbs and reduces lardon gas due to the risk of lardon gas in Korea. Therefore, this study develops a board for adsorbing lardon gas into the inside and outside of the room. The thermal conductivity was measured in order to carry out an adiabatic test for satisfying the following conditions. Experimental level and factors were substituted with silica gel. In addition, silica gel was used by dry mixing and prewetting, and 10, 20, and 30% of cement was substituted for each. As a result of the test, the thermal conductivity decreased to 0.45 W/mK with increasing the amount of replacement, and reached a similar level when compared with diatomite.

This paper presents an experimental measurement of effective thermal conductivity in an adsorbent packed bed with silica gel A type. The effective thermal conductivity was measured under different conditions of the adsorbent bed temperature, pressure, particle size and water content by using the transient hot wire method. The measured effective thermal conductivity showed to become bigger with decreasing particle size or increasing water content, but it was a little affected with increasing bed temperature and pressure. The bed temperature was varied in the range of 1$0^{\circ}C$ (equation omitted) T (equation omitted) 5$0^{\circ}C$ and the pressure in the range of 10 kPa (equation omitted) P (equation omitted) 190 kPa. The results show that 0.10~0.18 W/mㆍK of effective thermal conductivity measured for the zero water content.
The monolithic dry gels of the Li2O-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2 system were prepared by the sol-gel technique using metal alkoxides as starting materials to obtain monolithic glass-ceramics at low temperature without melting. Activation energy for the crystal growth of the gel with 6.05% TiO2, nucleating ageng, for the preparation of Li2O-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2 system glass-ceramic was 101.14kcal/mol. As a result of the analysis of DTA & XRD, it was confirmed that the crytallization of Li2O-Al2O3-TiO2-SiO2 system glass-ceramic was the most efficient when 6.05% TiO2, nucleating agent, was added. $\beta$-eucryptite solid solution crystals and $\beta$-spodumene solid solution crystals were detected in the sample heat treated above 85$0^{\circ}C$. The sintered gel heat treated at 85$0^{\circ}C$ had the specific surface area of 185$m^2$/g, the pore volume of 0.19cc/g and the average pore radius of 20.8$\AA$. This shows that the sintered gel is also comparatively porous material. In temperature range of 25~85$0^{\circ}C$ thermal expansion coefficient of the specimen which was crystallized for 10hrs at 85$0^{\circ}C$ was 6.7$\times$10-7/$^{\circ}C$, which indicated that the crystallized specimen was turned out to be the glass-ceramic with low thermal expansion.
Two different reactive silicone oligomers, hydroxylpropyl terminated PDMS (PDMS-L) and 1-(2,3-dihydroxy-propoxy)propyl terminated PDMS (PDMS-B), were synthesized through hydrosilylation reaction under Karstedt's catalyst. Using the reactive silicone oligomers, two different silicone-modified gel-coat series were prepared to investigate their thermal and mechanical properties as well as surface characteristics according to reactive silicone oligomer contents. In case of thermal stabilities and mechanical properties, the gel-coat series containing PDMS-B showed higher values than that of the gel-coat series containing the PDMS-L. The contact angle for the gel-coat containing both silicone oligomers/was increased with reactive silicone oligomer contents but there was similar surface tension between PDMS-L and PDMS-B.
Transparent sol-gel hybrid dielectric material (hybrimer) coating films were fabricated by spin coating and photo or thermal curing of sol-gel derived oligosiloxane resins. Hybrimer coating films are suitable as the passivation layer of TFT in AMLCD due to low dielectric constant, small loss tangent, low leakage current density, high transmittance and thermal stability.

In this study, a composite phase change material (CPCM) produced using the SOL-GEL technique was developed as a thermal energy storage medium for low-temperature applications. Tetradecane and activated carbon (AC) were used as the core and supporting materials, respectively. The tetradecane phase change material (PCM) was impregnated into the porous structure of AC using the vacuum impregnation method, and a thin layer of silica gel was coated on the prepared composite using the SOL-GEL process, where tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was used as the silica source. The thermal performance of the CPCM was analysed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). DSC results showed that the pure tetradecane PCM had melting and freezing temperatures of 6.4℃ and 1.3℃ and corresponding enthalpies 226 J/g and 223.8 J/g, respectively. The CPCM exhibited enthalpy of 32.98 J/g and 27.7 J/g during the melting and freezing processes at 7.1℃ and 2.4℃, respectively. TGA test results revealed that the AC is thermally stable up to 500℃, which is much higher than the decomposition temperature of the pure tetradecane, which is around 120℃. Moreover, in the case of AC-PCM and CPCM thermal degradation started at 80℃ and 100℃, respectively. The chemical stability of the CPCM was studied using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and the results confirmed that the developed composite is chemically stable. Finally, the surface morphology of the AC and CPCM was analysed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which confirmed the presence of a thin layer of silica gel on the AC surface after the SOL-GEL process.
Myrosinases (thioglucosidases) catalyze the hydrolysis of a class of compounds called glucosinolates, of which the aglycones show various biological functions. It is often necessary to minimize the loss of myrosinase activity during thermal processing of cruciferous vegetables. Myrosinase was isolated from a popular spice, white mustard (Sinapis alba), and its thermal inactivation kinetics was investigated. The enzyme was extracted from white mustard seeds and purified by a sequential processes of ammonium sulfate fractionation, Concanavalin A-Sepharose column chromatography, and gel permeation chromatography. At least three isozymes were revealed by Concanavalin A-Sepharose column chromatography. The purity of the major myrosinase was examined by native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and on-gel activity staining with methyl red. The molecular weight of the major enzyme was estimated to be 171 kDa. When the consecutive step model was used for the thermal inactivation of the major myrosinase, its inactivation energy was 44.388 kJ/mol for the early stage of destruction and 32.019 kJ/mol for the late stage of destruction. When the distinct two enzymes model was used, the inactivation energy was 77.772 kJ/mol for the labile enzyme and 95.145 kJ/mol for the stable enzyme. The thermal inactivation energies lie within energy range causing nutrient destruction on heating.
Polyamidimide (PAI)-colloidal silica (CS) nanohybrid films were synthesized by an advanced sol-gel process. The synthesized PAI-CS hybrid films have a uniform and stable chemical bonding and there is no interfacial defects observed by TEM. The thermal degradation ratio of PAI-CS (10 wt%) hybrid films is delayed by 100 ℃ compared with pure PAI sample determined by on set temperature range in TGA. The dielectric constant of PAI-CS (10 wt%) hybrid films decreases with increasing CS content up to about 5 wt% but increases at higher CS content, which is not explained simply by effective medium therories (EMT). The duration time of PAI-CS (10 wt%) hybrid coil is 38 sec, which is very longer than that of pure PAI coil sample. The PAI-CS (10 wt%) hybrid film has a higher breakdown voltage resistance than the pure PAI film at surge environment and exhibits superior heat resistance. The PAI-CS (10 wt%) sample shows the advanced and stable thermal emission properties in transformer module compared with the pure PAI sample. This result illustrates that the advanced thermal conductivity and expansion properties of PAI-CS sample in the case of appropriate sol-gel processes brings the stable thermal emission in transformer system. Therefore, new PAI-CS hybrid samples with such stable thermal emission properties are expected to be used as a high functional coating application in ET, IT and electric power products.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) was crosslinked by UV irradiation in the presence of water soluble photoinitiators. The crosslinking of PVA films with 1,2,3,4-Butanetetracarboxylic acid(BTCA) and sodium phosphinate monohydrate(SPM) was also achieved via thermal curing. Different factors in the crosslinking including thermal and radiation methods were studied. Gel fraction of PVA films increased with increasing photoinitiator concentration. The maximum gel fraction on the crosslinking method was reached about 81%. The glass transition and maximum decomposition temperature improved by both thermal and radiation crosslinking.
