Residual stress relief by pulse magnetic treatment is attractive because the process is carried out at room temperature and magnetic fields that are easy to produce and control can be used. This study shows that strong pulse magnetic treatment can lead to stress relaxation of structural steels instead of a conventional heat treatment process. And it makes a comparative study about pulse magnetic treatment and tempering by using Larson-Miller equation. When the specimen was subjected to a pulse magnetic treatment process the residual stress in the specimen was reduced by about 13.8%. It could be compared with tempering at $200^{\circ}C$ for 2hours by using thermal effect of Larson-Miller equation. As a result, it is considered that the pulsed magnetic treatment have an effect of the stress relation by tempering at $200^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours.
A viscoelastic finite element analysis is presented to investigate residual stresses occurred in a laminated cylindrical shell during cure. An incremental viscoelastic constitutive equation that can describe stress relaxation during the cure is derived as a recursive formula which can be used conveniently for a numerical analysis. The finite element analysis program is developed on the basis of a 3-D degenerated shell element and the first order shear deformation theory, and is verified by comparing with an one dimensional exact solution. Viscoelastic effect on the residual stresses in the laminated shell during the cure is investigated by performing both the viscoelastic and linear elastic analyses considering thermal deformation and chemical shrinkage simultaneously. The results show that there is big difference between viscoelastic stresses and linear elastic stresses. The effect of cooling rates and cooling paths on the residual stresses is also examined.
Recently the research for utilization of waste heat produced from electric power plants, casting factories, heat treating factories or commercial are being afforded by the need for energy saving. The objective of this study is to develop a thermoelectric generation system which unused energy from close-at-hand sources such as garbage incineration heat and industrial exhaust etc. into electricity. This paper a thermoelectric technology on a optimum system design method and efficiency and cost effective thermoelectric element on order to extract the maximum power output from energy conversion of waste energy. It is shown that the longitudinal stresses of module contacted with two point constrained Al tubes could be released more than those with a one-point constrained.
The residual stresses and. distortions of structures by welding exert negative effect on the safety of railroad structures. This investigation performs a thermal elasto-plastic analysis using finite element techniques to evaluate residual stresses in butted-welded joint. Considering this initial residual stresses, local stress and strain at the critical location (weld toe) during the loading were analyzed by elastic plastic finite element analysis. Fatigue crack initiation life and fatigue crack propagation life of butt-welded specimen were predicted by local strain approach and Neuber's role and Paris law. It is demonstrated that fatigue life estimates by local strain approach closely approximate the experimental results.
In finite element analysis of mechanical behavior of weld, typical process is first to obtain a finite element model containing residual stress by conducting welding analysis and then to examine the computational specimen for various external loading. The numerical specimen with residual stress has irregular boundary lines since one usually begins the welding analysis from a body having regular straight boundary lines and large thermal contraction takes place during cooling of weld metal. We notice that these numerical weld specimens are different from the real weld specimens as the real specimens are usually cut from a bigger weld part and consequently have straight boundaries neglecting elastic relaxation associated with the cutting. In this paper, an iterative finite element method is described to obtain a weld specimen which is bounded by straight lines. The stress distributions of two types of weld specimen, one with regular and the other with irregular boundaries, are compared to check the effect of the boundary shape. Results show that the stress distribution can be different when large plastic deformation is induced by the application of external loading. In case of elastic small deformation, the difference turns out almost negligible.
Single-crystalline Bi nanowires have motivated many researchers to investigate novel quasi-one-dimensional phenomena such as the wire-boundary scattering effect and quantum confinement effects due to their electron effective mass (~0.001 me). Single crystalline Bi nanowires were found to grow on as-sputtered films after thermal annealing at $270^{\circ}C$. This was facilitated by relaxation of stress between the film and the thermally oxidized Si substrate that originated from a mismatch of the thermal expansion. However, the method is known to produce relatively lower density of nanowires than that of other nanowire growth methods for device applications. In order to increase density of nanowire, we propose a method for enhancing compressive stress which is a driving force for nanowire growth. In this work, we report that the compressive stress can be controlled by modifying a substrate structure. A combination of photolithography and a reactive ion etching technique was used to fabricate patterns on a Si substrate. It was found that the nanowire density of a Bi film grown on $100{\mu}m{\times}100{\mu}m$ pattern Si substrate increased over seven times higher than that of a Bi sample grown on a normal substrate. Our results show that density of nanowire can be enhanced by sidewall effect in optimized proper pattern sizes for the Bi nanowire growth.
Cds films were deposited on glass substrates using rf magnetron sputtering method followed by rapid thermal annealing(RTA). Effects of annealing temperature on surface characteristic, structural, electrical and optical property of CdS films were investigated at different temperatures ranging from 250 to $550^{\circ}C$ with various holding time. The film annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ with less than 1 min holding time is attributed to the improved crystalline quality of CdS film due to the effective relaxation of residual compressive stress and achieving maximum grain size. The results show that RTA treatments under optimal annealing condition can provide significant improvements in the properties of CdS films.

Mechanical and physical properties of a copper alloy for a liquid rocket engine(LRE) combustion chamber liner application were tested at various temperatures. All test specimens were heat treated with the condition they might experience during actual fabrication process of the LRE combustion chamber. Physical properties measured include thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal expansion data. Uniaxial tension tests were preformed to get mechanical properties at several temperatures ranging from room temperature to 600$^{\circ}C$. The result demonstrated that yield stress and ultimate tensile stress of the copper alloy decreases considerably and strain hardening increases as the result of the heat treatment. Since the LRE combustion chamber operates at higher temperature over 400$^{\circ}C$, the copper alloy can exhibit time-dependent behavior. Strain rate, creep and stress relaxation tests were performed to check the time-dependent behavior of the copper alloy. Strain rate tests revealed that strain rate effect is negligible up to 400$^{\circ}C$ while stress-strain curve is changed at 500$^{\circ}C$ as the strain rate is changed. Creep tests were conducted at 250$^{\circ}C$ and 500$^{\circ}C$ and the secondary creep rate was found to be very small at both temperatures implying that creep effect is negligible for the combustion chamber liner because its operating time is quite short.
