Protective clothing for firefighters typically consists of a flame resistant outer shell and inner layers. The inner layers are generally composed of a moisture barrier and a thermal barrier. On performing the task in fire place the heat and perspiration generated from the body become trapped inside the protective clothing. Those heat and moisture result into heat-stress and physical fatigue of fire fighter, which hinder the work. Therefore, the system of clothing designs and material layers must be chosen carefully to balance protection and comfort. 3 kinds of protective clothing of 3 layer structure were used in the experiment of physiological comfort. From the comparison of wear trials with the 3 kinds of layers in firefighters clothing, it indicates that the moisture dissipation of A+B2+C was highest, following A+BI+C andA+B3+C. And the heat dissipation of A+BI+C and A+B2+C were better than A+B3+C. In the protective clothing with A+B3+C, heat and perspiration generated through exercise remained in clothing system long and caused discomfort.

An experimental study on spreading flame over electrical wire, which was insulated by Polyethylene(PE) and had different diameters, was conducted with applied AC electric field. The result showed that the flame spread rate decreased in increase of the diameter of insulator at a fixed electric field. The flame spread rate exhibited increase or decrease tendency with applied AC electric field, having three distinct regimes depending on applied voltage and frequency. In each regime, the flame spread rate was characterized by physical parameters of applied electric fields and wire dimensions, and the behaviors could be explained by a thermal balance mechanism.
To understand the large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) behavior of complex fluids, we have investigated the flow behavior of a network model in the LAOS environment. We applied the LAOS flow to the model proposed by Vaccaro and Marrucci (2000), which was originally developed to describe the system of associating telechelic polymers. The model was found to predict at least three different types of LAOS behavior; strain thinning (G' and G" decreasing), strong strain overshoot (G' and G" increasing followed by decreasing), and weak strain overshoot (G' decreasing, G" increasing followed by decreasing). The overshoot behavior in the strain sweep test, which il often observed in some complex fluid systems with little explanation, could be explained in terms of the model parameters, or in terms of the overall balance between the creation and loss rates of the network junctions, which are continually created and destroyed due to thermal and flow energy. This model does not predict strain hardening behavior because of the finitely extensible nonlinear elastic (FENE) type nonlinear effect of loss rate. However, the model predicts the LAOS behavior of most of the complex fluids observed in the experiments.he experiments.
A finite element modeling approach has been described for the simulation and analysis of the micron-scaled solid particle impact behavior in kinetic spraying process, using an explicit code (ABAQUS 6.7-2). High-strain-rate plastic deformation and interface bonding features of the copper, nickel, aluminum, and titanium were investigated via FEM in conjunction with the Johnson-Cook plasticity model. Different aspects of adiabatic shear instabilities of the materials were characterized as a concept of thermal boost-up zone (TBZ), and also discussed based upon energy balance concept with respect to relative recovery energy (RRE) for the purpose of optimizing the bonding process.
Purpose: The simulation model of a pneumatic conveying drying (PCD) for sawdust was developed and verified with the experiments. Method: The thermal behavior and mass transfer of a PCD were modeled and investigated by comparing the experimental results given by a reference (Kamei et al. 1952) to validate the model. Momentum, energy and mass balance, one dimensional first order ordinary differential equations, were coded and solved into Matlab V. 7.1.0 (2009). Results: The simulation results showed that the moisture content reduced from 194% to 40% (dry basis), air temperature decreased from $512^{\circ}C$ to $128^{\circ}C$ with the particle residence time of 0.7 seconds. The statistical indicators, root mean square error and R-squared, were calculated to be 0.079, and 0.998, respectively, between the measured and predicted values of moisture content. The relative error between the measured and predicted values of the final pressured drop, air temperature, and air velocity were only 8.96%, 0.39% and 1.05% respectively. Conclusions: The predicted moisture content, final temperature, and pressure drop values were in good agreement with the experimental results. The developed model can be used for design and estimation of PCD system for drying of wood dust particles.
In electric cable industries, the curing extent of the rubber materials covering the electric cores gives an significant effect on their final performance. The curing extent of rubber is controlled mostly by pull-out velocity of cable in the extrusion process. The final curing extent may be different for different radial positions inside the rubber because of the non-uniform temperature distributions during the curing process. In this contribution, the prediction of curing extent distribution throughout the radial direction of rubber is represented when the cable is passing through the steam curing zone with a fixed pull-out velocity. The prediction of the optimum pull-out velocity for the desired curing extent distribution is also reported. The steady-state heat balance was developed for the curing and cooling processes in which the pull-out rubber was cured by high temperature steam and then cooled by ambient water. A few essential material properties such as density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured to analyze the temperature distribution during the curing and cooling processes. The times to reach 90% curing extent at varying temperatures were measured and used to determine the final cure extent distribution inside the rubber.

In conventional air-handling units, when the circulated air from the air-conditioned space pass through the cooling coil, the air is over-cooled to eliminate the moisture as well as to decrease the temperature. The purpose of this study is to estimate the thermal performance and energy saving of the cooling/reheating system using heat exchanger which can save both cooling energy and reheating energy by exchanging heat between the cooled air and reheated air. The energy balance equations to estimate the state of the air for each components were provided and the heat transfer rates and the energy saving rates for the system were calculated from the equations. The results showed that the energy saving was up to 40% under present conditions, and saving rates were significantly affected by the air velocity, inlet conditions and the effectiveness of heat exchanger.

Recently, due to the rapid development of electric vehicle and energy storage system, it is emphasized for battery management system to be needed and to be improved. BMS carries out various movement for optimization the use of the energy and safe use of secondary battery, these movement of BMS start at high wattage shunt fixed resistor which performs a function for detecting current among the BMS components. In addition, for the safe operation of secondary battery, the reliability of current voltage variation detected from shunt should be secured, and for corresponding characteristics, the quality of Temperature coefficient of resistance for BMS shunt and the quality of Thermo electromotive force all must be excellent. For these reasons, this study comes up with the stabilization plan for thermo electromotive force and temperature coefficient of resistance of BMS shunt resistor which is key to secondary battery operation.

A new green-emitting material with donor-acceptor architecture, 3,7-bis(1'-phenylbenzimidazole-2'-yl)-10-phenylphenothiazine (BBPP) was synthesized and its thermal, optical, and electroluminescent characteristics were investigated. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with four different multilayer structures were prepared using BBPP as an emitting layer. The optimized device with the structure of [ITO/2-TNATA (40 nm)/BBPP (30 nm)/TPBi (30 nm)/Alq3 (10 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm)] exhibited efficient green emission. Enhanced charge carrier balance and electron mobility in the organic layers enabled the device to demonstrate a maximum luminance of 31,300 cd/$m^2$, a luminous efficiency of 6.83 cd/A, and an external quantum efficiency of 1.62% with the CIE 1931 chromaticity coordinates of (0.21, 0.53) at a current density of 100 mA/$cm^2$.
We have investigated the effects of hole-injection buffer layer in organic light-emitting diodes using copper phthalocyanine (CuPc), poly(vinylcarbazole)(PVK), and Poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) in a device structure of $ITO/bufferr/TPD/Alq_3/Al$. Polymer PVK and PEDOT:PSS buffer layer were produced using the spin casting method where as the CuPc layer was produced using thermal evaporation. Current-voltage characteristics, luminance-voltage characteristics and efficiency of device were measured at room temperature at various a thickness of the buffer layer. We observed an improvement in the external quantum efficiency by a factor of two, four, and two and half when the CuPc, PVK, and PEDOT:PSS buffer layer were used, respectively. The enhancement of the efficiency is assumed to be attributed to the improved balance of holes and elelctrons resulting from the use of hole-injection buffer layer. The CuPc and PEDOT:PSS layer function as a hole-injection supporter and the PVK layer as a hole-blocking one.
