  • Dynamic analysis of a plate with non-linearity due to large deformation is performed in the study. There have been many researches about the non-linear dynamic behavior of plates examining by means of theoretical or numerical analyses. But it is important how exactly model the actual system. In this respect, the Continuous-Time system identification technique is used to generate non-linear models, for stiffness and damping terms, to explain the observed behaviors with single mode assumptions for the simplicity after comparing the experimental results with the numerical results of a linear plate model.

  • Experimental studies on the aerodynamic coupling effect on natural frequencies, critical speed and flutter instability of DVD disks are investigated in this paper. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical analyses where the aerodynamic effects are represented in terms of elastic, lift and damping and stiffness components. The experiments are performed using a vacuum chamber and DVD disks rotating in vacuum, open and enclosure with several different gaps between disk and wall. The following three results are given. One is that the aerodynamic effect by the surrounding air reduces the natural frequencies and critical speeds of the vibration modes. The second is that natural frequency decreases as the disk-wall gap is decreased. Finally, it is shown that the disk vibration is reduced as the gap between the disk and the rigid wall decreases.

  • As a basic study on the fluid-structure interaction of the shell structure, a theoretical formulation has been suggested on the free vibration of a thin-walled conical frustum shell filled with an ideal fluid, where the shell is assumed to be fixed at both ends. The motion of fluid coupled with the shell is determined by means of the velocity potential flow theory. In order to calculate the normalized natural frequencies that represent the fluid effect on a fluid-coupled system, finite element analyses for a fluid-filled conical frustum shell are carried out. Also, the effect of apex angle on the frequencies is investigated.

  • A fair portion of the dream to acquire the solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations has come true through the remarkable development of computers and solution algorithms in recent years. However, it is also true that there still remain serious hurdles in simulating general fluid flows. A few numerical trials to overcome the existing difficulties are introduced. The issues in numerical simulations of high-Reynolds-number flows, flows characterized by complex body geometry, and multi-phase flows, are scrutinized. The future of computational fluid dynamics as a promising tool for flow analyses is illuminated by this review.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of landscape for historical areas in Italy and suggest a planning directions and consideration points for historic landscape in residential complex. This study is consisted of four areas as followings: The first part, as a theoretical study, reviews the research method of this study. The second part, the concept of historic cultural landscape and its scope. The third part, focalizes the characteristics of landscape management and concept of the historic area. The last part, as a field planning, analyses the characteristics of urban landscape planning and architecture. The result of analytical reviews is synthesized and used to suggest the major strategies and guidances for the future landscape in terms of physical, socio-cultural, and institutional aspects under consideration of Korean situations.

  • Based on the theory of piezo-elasticity, the paper obtains the exact solutions of functionally graded piezoelectric hollow cylinders with different piezoelectric parameter $g_{31}$. Two kinds of piezoelectric hollow cylinders are considered herein. One is a multi-layered cylinder with different parameter $g_{31}$ in different layers; the other is a continuously graded cylinder with arbitrarily variable $g_{31}$. By using the Airy stress function method with plane strain assumptions, the exact solutions of the mechanic and electrical components of both cylinders are obtained when they are subjected to external voltage (actuator) and pressure (sensor), simultaneously. Furthermore, good agreement is achieved between the theoretical and numerical results, and useful conclusions are given.

  • To assure the reliability of cylinders or shells with fluid-filled annulus, it is necessary to investigate the modal characteristics considering fluid-structure interaction effect. In this study, theoretical background and several finite element models are developed for cylindrical shells with fluid-filled annulus considering fluid-structure interaction. The effect of the inclusion of the fluid-filled annulus on the natural frequencies is investigated, which frequencies are used for typical dynamic analyses such as responses spectrum, power spectral density and unit load excitation. Their response characteristics are addressed with respect to the various representations of the fluid-structure interaction effect.

  • It is the goal of this study to provide the essential data for design and operation of optimum water supply system. Experimental and theoretical analyses have been conducted for various parameters, for example, volume and air percent of pressurizing tank, pump speed and pressure range inside tank, etc. Pressure inside tank with time, flow rate, energy consumption rate and pump operation time have been obtained for design and operating parameters to optimize the components and to establish the operating method of system, and therefore to contribute to the development of technology from a point of view of the improvement of quality, the enhancement of system efficiency and the reduction of construction cost.

  • Through this study, standard design guidelines for the high speed EMU have been derived to meet the crashworthiness requirements of the Korean rollingstock safety regulation. The crashworthiness regulation requires some performance requirements for two heavy collision accident scenarios; a train-to-train collision at the relative speed of 36 kph, and a collision against a standard deformable obstacle of 15 ton at 110 kph. The complete train set will be composed of 2TC-6M with 13 ton axle load, different from KTX with the power car of 17 ton axle load. Using theoretical and numerical analyses, some crashworthy design guidelines were derived in terms of mean crush forces and energy absorptions for main crushable structures and devices. The derived design guidelines were evaluated and improved using one dimensional spring-mass dynamic simulations. It is shown from the simulation results that the suggested design guidelines can easily satisfy the domestic crashworthiness requirements.

  • This study was designed to identify the information sources of reference used by male college students. Theoretical framework is based upon social comparison theory, reference group theory, and Kotler's model of personal and non-personal sources of reference. The subjects were 287 male college students. The questionnaire were distributed to the school area and the commercial area such as Shinchon, Myung-Dong, and Apkujung-Dong in Seoul. Means, standard deviation, frequency, T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test were applied for the analyses of data. The result of hyporthesis 1 showed that male college student utilize personal and non-personal sources of reference indiscriminately. The result of hypothesis 2 showed that male college students consult the socially high-proximal group such as a girl friend(a lover) and mother most actively. The result of hypothesis 3 found that male college students use position media most actively, especially in-store displays, followed by print media and broadcast media.
