A single frequency strain mode test, a stress relaxation mode test, and a creep test using RH-DMA were performed to investigate the effects of relative humidity and temperature on the viscous properties of PET film. The relative humidity was 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%. The temperature was considered to be 30~95℃ for single frequency strain mode tests, 30℃ and 70℃ for stress relaxation mode test, and 5~95℃ for creep test. According to the results, higher relative humidity results in lower storage modulus and loss modulus, but the maximum value of the loss modulus is not significantly affected by changes in relative humidity and is almost constant. Relaxation modulus decreases rapidly at the beginning and becomes constant, and as the temperature increases, it is susceptible to changes in relative humidity. Strain recovery also increases rapidly at the beginning and is susceptible to changes in relative humidity as the temperature increases. In addition, as the temperature increases, the degree of increase in creep compliance increases, and as the temperature rises above the glass transfer temperature, the degree of increase becomes very large. The master curve determined by the time-temperature superposition provides the information to predict the long-term performance under operating conditions such as relative humidity and temperature.
PURPOSE. A novel retentive type of implant prosthesis that does not require the use of cement or screw holes has been introduced; however, there are few reports examining the biomechanical aspects of this novel implant. This study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical features of cementless fixation (CLF) implant prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The test groups of three variations of CLF implant prostheses and a control group of conventional cement-retained (CR) prosthesis were designed three-dimensionally for finite element analysis. The test groups were divided according to the abutment shape and the relining strategy on the inner surface of the implant crown as follows; resin-air hole-full (RAF), resin-air hole (RA), and resin-no air hole (RNA). The von Mises stress and principal stress were used to evaluate the stress values and distributions of the implant components. Contact open values were calculated to analyze the gap formation of the contact surfaces at the abutment-resin and abutment-implant interfaces. The micro-strain values were evaluated for the surrounding bone. RESULTS. Values reflecting the maximum stress on the abutment were as follows (in MPa): RAF, 25.6; RA, 23.4; RNA, 20.0; and CR, 15.8. The value of gap formation was measured from 0.88 to 1.19 ㎛ at the abutment-resin interface and 24.4 to 24.7 ㎛ at the abutment-implant interface. The strain distribution was similar in all cases. CONCLUSION. CLF had no disadvantages in terms of the biomechanical features compared with conventional CR implant prosthesis and could be successfully applied for implant prosthesis.
This investigation presents an analysis procedure for simulating the compressive behavior of a rectangular concrete column confined by fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) under uniaxial load. That is, the entire stress-strain curve can be drawn through the present analysis procedure. The modified Mander's stress-strain model (Mander, et al. 1988) and finite element method are adopted in this analysis procedure. The numerical analysis results are compared with the experimental results to verify the accuracy of the analysis procedure. This study offers a useful analysis procedure of researching the compressive behavior of rectangular concrete columns confined by FRP. Two main parameters, the number of FRP layers and the radius of the round corners of a rectangular column, are investigated. The numerical results show that non-uniform stresses occur and reduce the sectional effective area owing to the geometry of the confined rectangular column. The stresses are concentrated at the corners of the rectangular column. Compressive strength of a rectangular column increases greatly because the number of FRP layers increase. The maximum predicted compressive stress of the rectangular column has approximately 10% error as compared to the experimental results. Comparing the numerical and experimental results demonstrates that the accuracy of this analysis procedure is credible. Besides, the stress-strain curves of the R30 models, which are rectangular concrete column with large radius of round corners, are almost bilinear. This calculated results conform to the expectation and show the present analysis procedure are more suitable than Mander's model (1988) to analyze the compressive behavior of the rectangular concrete column confined by FRP.
The tensile deformation and shape recovery behaviors were studied in Ni-Ti shape memory wires showing different transformation characteristics by annealing at $200{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. Both R phase ${\rightarrow}$ B19' martensitic transformation at lower temperature and B2 ${\rightarrow}$ R phase transformation at higher temperature occurred in the shape memory wires annealed at $200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. Transformation temperature and heat flow of B19' martensite increase but those of R phase main almost constant even with increasing annealing temperature. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$, plateau on stress-strain curves in tensile testing can be observed due to the collapse of R phase variants and the formation of deformation-induced B19' martensite. In the case of wires annealed and then cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$, however, plateau on stress-strain curves does not appear and stress increases steadily with increasing tensile deformation. Comparing shape recovery rate with cooling temperature after annealing, shape recovery rate of the wire cooled to $20^{\circ}C$ is higher than that of the wire cooled to $-196^{\circ}C$ after annealing, and maximum shape recovery rate of 95% appears in the wire annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ and then cooled to $20^{\circ}C$. $R_s$ and $R_f$ temperatures measured during shape recovery tests are higher than $A_s$ and $A_f$ temperatures measured by DSC tests even at the same annealing temperature.
In this study, effects of forming angle and friction coefficient on a initiation of the Mannesmann hole defect were analyzed by using a response surface method. The maximum effective plastic strain at center point of specimen is utilized for the prediction of the starting point of crack occurrence, which is suggested by the comparison of integrals of four different ductile fracture models between the histories of the effective plastic strain at center point. It was revealed that the principal stress at the center is the dominant element to the increase of the effective plastic strain. It was also verified by the simulation results from the comparison of experiment and simulation. It is provided that the forming angle of 25 degrees and the spreading angle of 1 degree can be a proper design condition without an occurrence of internal hole defect and an excessive slip.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the dry wear characteristics of die steel STD 11 for cold molding. The wear test was experimentally carried out under different conditions using a wear device, which was made in laboratory, and in which annular surfaces of wear testing specimens wear rubbed in dry sliding condition with varying the sliding speed, contact pressure, and sliding distance. The wear loss by variation of sliding speed was much in 0.3 m/sec and less in higher speed range above its sliding speed according to formation of the boundary lubrication film. The critical sliding speed with maximum value of the specific wear rate switched over to lower speed side according. as contact pressure increased. The critical sliding distance was increased with decrease in oxidation reaction velocity. The depth below subsurface showing maximum hardness (Hv) came out at the position, $60 \mu m$, of the maximum shear stress due to strain hardening.

In this study, for the evaluation of the static and fatigue joining strength of the joint, the geometry of the cross-tension specimen was adopted. The specimens were produced with optimal joining force and fatigue life of the clinch joint specimens was evaluated. The material selected for use in this study was cold rolled mild steel (SPCC) with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The maximum tensile load was 708 N for the specimen with single point. The fatigue endurance limit (=42.6 N) per point approached to 6% of the maximum tensile strength at a load ratio of 0.1, suggesting that the joints are vulnerable to cross-tension loading during fatigue. Compared to equivalent stress and maximum principal stress, the SWT fatigue parameter and equivalent strain can properly predict the current experimental fatigue life. The SWT parameter can be expressed as $SWT=2497.5N^{-0.552)_f$.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the residual stresses at the multi-pass FCA weldment using the finite element analysis (FEA). In order to do it, an H-type specimen was selected as a test specimen. The variable used was in-plane restraint intensity. The temperature distribution at the multi-pass FCA butt weldment was evaluated in accordance with the relevant guidance recommended by the KWJS. The effective conductivity for the weld metal corresponding to each welding pass was introduced to control the maximum temperature below the vaporization temperature of weld metal. The heat flux caused by welding arc was assumed to be applied to the weld metal corresponding to welding pass. With heat transfer analysis results, the distribution of transverse residual stresses was evaluated using the thermo-mechanical analysis and compared with the measured results by XRD and uniaxial strain gage. In thermo-mechanical analysis, the plastic strain resetting at the temperature above melting temperature of $1450^{\circ}C$ was considered and the weld metal and base metal was assumed to be bilinear kinematics hardening continuum. According to the comparison between FEA and experiment, transverse residual stresses at the multi-pass FCA butt weldment obtained by FEA had a good agreement with the measured results, regardless of in-plane rigidity. Based on the results, it was concluded that thermo-mechanical FE analysis based on temperature distribution calculated in accordance with the KWJS’s guidance could be used as a tool to predict the distribution of residual stress of the multi-pass FCA butt weldment.
Among elemental metals, niobium (Nb) has the highest superconducting transition temperature (Tc) at ambient pressure. Thus, Nb films have been used in superconducting electronics and radio frequency cavity applications. In this study, the depositional factors determining the crystallinity and Tc of Nb films were investigated. An Nb film grown at a sputtering temperature of 240℃ exhibited the maximum crystallinity of Nb and the minimum crystallinity of niobium oxide. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed a maximum atomic percent of niobium and a minimum atomic percent of oxygen. A sputtering power of 210 W and a sputtering time of 50 min were the optimal conditions for Nb deposition, and the Tc of the optimized film (9.08 K) was close to that of bulk Nb (9.25 K). Transmission electron microscopy images of the thick film directly confirmed the removal of the typical in-plane compressive strain in the (110) plane caused by residual stress.

Risidual stress of cylindrical glass rods are measured by photoelasticity to study the variation of stresses with respect to heat treatment temperatures. In order to measure the stresses accurately, fringe sharpening and multiplication techniques are applied to the determination of photoelastic fringe orders. Filon's separationmethod is used to resolve circumferential and redial stress ocmponents from isochromatic fringes which are the same as in-plane maximum shearing stresses. According to the photoelastic measurements, residual stress is increased as the heat treatment temperature of the rods is raised from $560^{\circ}C$ to $650^{\circ}C$ All the circumferential stress components are changed from tensile stresses to compressive ones at approximate $R_m$/$R_o$ = 0.6, where $R_o$/ is outer radius and $R_m$any measured radius. This analysis shows that residual stresses of the glass rods approach zero if the rods are heat-treated near the strain point.
