  • In this study, we developed the simulation program of an overhead catenary-pantograph system, The overhead catenary is modeled with point mass and the pantograph is replaced with 3 d. o. f. model which is composed of mass, spring and damper. Using the developed program, we analyzed the static structure of the overhead catenary and the dynamic characteristics of an overhead catenary-pantograph system such as uplift displacement of contact wire and contact force. we compared the analysis results with the results of GASENDO software developed at RTRI in Japan. The behaviors of uplift displacement of contact wire and contact force were similar with the results of GASENDO software.

  • The aim this study is to provide fundamental informations for the development of magneticfluid damper. To achieve the aim. the damping effect of magneticfluid is investigated by experiments that the diameter of inner circular bar and the input amplitude vary in the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet and the electromagnet. From the study, the following conclusive remarks can be made. As the diameter of inner circular bar and the input amplitude increase. the damping effect is improved. And we can know that as the contact area between inner circular bar and magneticfluid increases, damping ratio is improved. Also we consider the cases that there is magnetism generated by electromagnet and DC voltage is supplied to electromagnet from 10V to 50V by 10V. In these cases, the amplitude ratio decreases sharply from 1.8 1.0 And for these cases, the damping ratio is .745.

  • Normal operation of a workstation in a ship must be secured under any circumstances. Rugged workstation has been imported and there have been many difficulties in maintaining that system such as high cost, delayed after-service and etc. For that reason, a commercial workstation is decided to replace the rugged workstation. But as there is no anti-vibration design in the commercial workstation, a passive vibration isolation system consisted with oil damper and spring is applied. Through theoretical study and experiments, the proposed vibration system is proved to work effectively and make the commercial workstation be able to be used in a ship.

  • Commercial vehicles are mostly subjected to relatively rougher ground environment than passenger vehicles. Many driver's seats of commercial vehicles have suspension system with spring and dampers. Then, impact or vibrative forces transmitted from the vehicle to the driver can be attenuated. This study deals with a ride evaluation method using sky-hook control algorithm for the suspension dampers. Vibration amplitude transmissibilities were compared between passive dampers and semi-active dampers with sky-hook control method.

Development of a User-friendly continuous-system (사용자 편의성을 고려한 연속체계 모의실험 언어의 개발)

  • 기존의 모의 실험언어를 이용해서 연속 체계를 모의 실험하는 것을 사용자가 언어에서 요구하는 형태로 모델을 형성해야 하는 어려움이 따른다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사용자에게 최대한 편의성을 제공하는 연속체계 모의 실험언어인 PCSL (Postech Continuous -system Simulation Language)를 개발하였다. PCSL은 주어진 대상을 모델링한 미분방정식과 그것을 푸는데 필요한 여러 가지 제약 사항으로 이루어진 간단한 프로그램을 입력으로 받아 자동으로 모의 실험을 수행함으로서 사용자의 노력이 최소화하게 된다. PCSL 처리 시스템의 구성은 주어진 모델을 C 프로그램으로 변형하는 변환기, 모의 실험 알고리즘을 구현한 C 프로그램을 생성하는 생성기, 모의 실험을 수행하는 실행기, 사용자 인터페이스 등으로 되어있다. 구현 예로는 먼저 선형 상미분방정식의 예로 mass-damper-spring system, 비선형 상미분방정식의 예로 van der Pol 방정식, 연립 상미분방정식의 예로는 mixing tank problem 등을 보였다.

Series tuned mass dampers in train-induced vibration control of railway bridges

  • This paper presents the series multiple tuned mass dampers (STMDs) to suppress the resonant vibrations of railway bridges under the passage of high-speed trains (HSTs). A STMD device consisting of two spring-mass-damper units connected each other in series is installed on the bridge. In solution, bridge is modeled as a simply-supported Euler-Bernoulli beam with constant cross-section, and vehicle is simulated as a series of moving forces with constant speed. By the assumed mode method, the governing equations of motion of the beam-TMD device coupled system traversed by a moving train are obtained. The optimum values for the parameters of the STMD device are obtained for the criterion based on the minimization of the maximum dynamic displacement of the beam at its midspan. Single TMD and multiple TMDs in parallel are also considered for demonstration of the STMD device's performance. The results show that STMDs are effective in bridge vibration suppression and robust to parameters' change in the main system and the absorber itself.

  • In this study, to improve the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle whose hard points have been already fixed, a tuning method of load spring, damper and stabilizer bar is described. For the suspension system of vehicle, optimized design is necessary to satisfy the incompatible two dynamic characteristics which are the ride isolation property between unsprung mass and sprung mass to reduce the excitation from the road and the accurate correring response property to specific steering inputs. To accomplish above aims, we may approach by experimental method, but it requires to sacrifice much time and cost. This paper, therefore, provides a process of suspension development to improve the ride and handling properties by using computer simulation with saving time and cost, and as results, comparaes the dynamic characteristics of the tuned vehicle with the base vehicle not tuned.

  • In this study, we tried to investigate the impedance characteristic of human arm in a cooperative task. Human arm was moved in a desired trajectory. The motion was actuated by a 1 degree-of-freedom robot system. As the muscle is mechanically analogous to a spring-damper system, a second-order equation was considered as the model for arm dynamics. In the model, inertia, stiffness and damping factor were considered. The impedance parameter was estimated from the position and torque data obtained from the experiment and based on the "Estimation of Parametric Model".   • The structure of the variable liquid column oscillator(VLCO) is analogous to that of the tuned liquide column damper used to suppress oscillatory motion in large structures like tall buildings and cargo ships. VLCO is the technology to absorb high potential energy made by process of accelerated motions to occur the effect of an air spring by installation of inner air chamber. So, the application of VLCO can obtain to improve efficiency of energy than wave energy converters made in Pelamis Company. In this research, the experiments were carried out for the motion characteristics of simple floating body by varying the amount of internal fluid. The experimental results were compared with the calculated results.

A recursive multibody model of a tracked vehicle and its interaction with flexible ground

  • A high-fidelity model of a tracked vehicle traversing a flexible ground terrain with a varying profile is presented here. In this work, we employed a recursive formulation to model the track subsystem. This method yields a minimal set of coordinates and hence, computationally more efficient than conventional approaches. Also, in the vehicle subsystem, the undercarriage frame is assumed to be connected to the chassis by a revolute joint and a spring-damper unit. This increase in system mobility makes the model more realistic. To capture the vehicle-ground interaction, a Winkler-type foundation with springs-dampers is used. Simulation runs of the integrated tracked vehicle system for vibrations for four varying ground profiles are provided.
