A novel anti-islanding method for the distributed power generation system (DPGS) is proposed in this paper. Three different islanding scenarios are explored and presented based on the analysis of real and reactive power mismatch. It is shown via investigation that islanding voltage is a function of real power alone, where its frequency is a function of both real and reactive power. Following this analysis, a robust anti-islanding algorithm is developed. The proposed algorithm continuously perturbs ($\pm$5%) the reactive power supplied by the DPGS while simultaneously monitoring the utility voltage and frequency. In the event of islanding, a measurable frequency deviation takes place, upon which the real power of the DPGS is further reduced to 80%. A drop in voltage positively confirms islanding and the DPGS is then safely disconnected. This method of control is shown to be robust: it is able to detect islanding under resonant loads and is also fast acting (operable in one cycle). Possible islanding conditions are simulated and verified through analysis. Experimental results on a 0.5kW fuel cell system connected to a utility grid are discussed.
Rack-level DC power supply is the optimal technology for providing DC power to a volume server without any power infrastructure changes in an existing AC data center. In this paper, we propose a smartly controllable and monitorable DC rack power system. The proposed system improves power efficiency by changing the power distribution architecture of a conventional method in the rack. We developed an optimal power control method in multipower modules to provide high efficiency at low loads. In addition, the proposed system provides real-time web monitoring of the rack power and environment around a rack. In our experiments, the proposed system improved the power efficiency by over 10% compared to an AC power system providing N+1 redundant power and power monitoring.
This paper presents the two modes for maximum power point tracking of the photovoltaic system. The method combines the merits of the two methods consisting of the open circuit method and the three point weight comparison method. The maximum point found by this method is exactly than by the open circuit method. By the simulation results, the actual maximum point can be found that is better than the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method or the three point weight method only one method, especially, in the case of non regular pattern of Power-Voltage (P-V) curve.
Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) application study on enhancing the flexibility of AC power system has continued to make progress. A thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) is a useful FACTS device that can control the power flow by adjusting line impedances and minimize the loss of power flow and voltage drop in a transmission system by adjusting line impedances. Reduced power flow loss leads to increased loadability, low system loss, and improved stability of the power system. This study proposes the optimal location and compensation rate method for TCSCs, by considering both the power system loss and voltage drop of transmission systems. The proposed method applies a multi-objective function consisting of a minimizing function for power flow loss and voltage drop. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using IEEE 14- and a 30-bus system.

SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis) method has been applied to predict the sound radiation power from vibrating machinery. In this study, sound radiation power was predicted from coupled structures by transmission of vibration, which composed of two plates welded into an L shape. The predicted sound radiation power is in agreement within 2 or 3 dB on octave band comparing with values obtained from direct measurements. Also, in order to prove the validity of this method in changes of sound radiation power associated with modifications to structures, rubber pad was stuck on a plate. The results agree approximately within 3 or 5 dB. And SEA method is valuable for the optimal design to reduce the noise. Additionally, this paper suggests that the logarithmic decrement method is valid as the one for finding the loss factor.
An improved MPPT converter with current compensation method for small-scaled PV-applications is presented in this paper. The proposed method implements maximum power point tracking (MPPT) by variable reference current which is continuously changed during one sampling period. Therefore, the power transferred to the load is increased above $9\%$ by the proposed MPPT converter with current compensation method. As a result, the utilization efficiency of Photovoltaic (PV)-panel can be increased. In addition, as it doesn't use digital signal processor (DSP), this MPPT method has the merits of both a cost efficiency and a simple control circuit design. Therefore, it is considered that the proposed MPPT method is proper to low power, low cost PV-applications. The concept and control principles of the proposed MPPT method are explained in detail and its validity of the proposed method is verified through several simulated results.
A novel integrated optimization method based on the Generalized Bender’s Decomposition (GBD) is proposed to combine both generation and transmission expansion problems. Most of existing researches on the integrated expansion planning based on the GBD theory incorporate DC power flow model to guarantee the convergence and improve the computation time. Inherently the GBD algorithm based on DC power flow model cannot consider variables and constraints related bus voltages and reactive power. In this paper, an integrated optimization method using the GBD algorithm based on a linearized AC power flow model is proposed to resolve aforementioned drawback. The proposed method has been successfully applied to Garver’s six-bus system and the IEEE 30-bus system which are frequently used power systems for transmission expansion planning studies.

This paper proposes a new method for measuring the power of spherical and cylindrical lens with 6 points light source, which is composed of a LED and six holes, and magnification ellipse fitting algorithm. Each measured diagonal length of 6 points light source is determined by the target lens power. After finding the center position of each light point with threshold method, 3 axis-diagonal lengths were calculated. The long axis and short axis power of cylindrical lens can be calculated by using magnification ellipse fitting algorithm with the magnification relationships between the initial diagonal lengths and the measured diagonal lengths changed by lens power.

Energy conversion systems such as power inverters and converters are basically significant in establishing photovoltaic power systems to enhance power effectiveness. This paper proposes a new converter control method by using the Lyapunov redesign approach. We construct the proposed control mechanism linearly composed of nominal control and auxiliary control laws. The former is generally designed through a well-known power electronic technology and the latter is implemented to compensate real-time control error due to uncertain natures of converter systems in practice. For realizing adaptive control capability in the proposed control mechanism, a control parameter vector is estimated by utilizing a steepest descent based optimization method. We carry out numerical simulation with Matlab(c) software to demonstrate reliability of the proposed converter control system and conduct a comparative study to prove its superiority by comparing with a generic converter control methodology.

Large capacity UPS and emergency generators are being installed and operated at the specific target of important electric facilities that need uninterruptible power supply by the method of countermeasure against power failure for the less reliable incoming power method. Recently, CTTS (Closed Transition Transfer Switch) is being used as uninterruptible power transfer switch at the Common sources of electricity, generator and multiple generators. In this paper, construction plans for uninterruptible power supply system has been suggested in which CTTS has been applied to the secondary of incoming power generator for reliable common dual system method. By briefing the construction of incoming power facilities, large capacity UPS, emergency generator installation space and investment saving effects can be achieved.
