  • Continuous on-line temperature monitoring allows corrective measures to be taken to prevent upcoming failure. Continuous temperature monitoring and event recording provides information on the energized equipment's response to normal and emergency conditions. On-line temperature monitoring helps to coordinate equipment specifications and ratings, determine the real limits of the monitored equipment and optimize facility operations. Using wireless technique eliminates any need for special cables and wires with lower installation costs if compared to other types of online condition monitoring equipment. In addition, wireless temperature monitoring works well under difficult conditions in strategically important locations. Wireless technology for on-line condition monitoring of energized equipment is applicable both as standalone system and with an interface with power quality monitoring system.

  • In order to provide a novel strategy for long-span bridge health monitoring system design, this paper proposes a novel ultimate bearing capacity ratios based bridge internal force monitoring design method. The bridge ultimate bearing capacity analysis theories are briefly described. Then, based on the ultimate bearing capacity of the structural component, the component ultimate bearing capacity ratio, the uniformity of ultimate bearing capacity ratio, and the reference of component ultimate bearing capacity ratio are defined. Based on the defined indices, the high bearing components can then be found, and the internal force monitoring system can be designed. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the bridge health monitoring system design of the second highway bridge of Wuhu Yangtze river. Through the ultimate bearing capacity analysis of the bridge in eight load conditions, the high bearing components are found based on the proposed method. The bridge internal force monitoring system is then preliminary designed. The results show that the proposed method can provide quantitative criteria for sensors layout. The monitoring components based on the proposed method are consistent with the actual failure process of the bridge, and can reduce the monitoring of low bearing components. For the second highway bridge of Wuhu Yangtze river, only 59 components are designed to be monitored their internal forces. Therefore, the bridge internal force monitoring system based on the ultimate bearing capacity ratio can decrease the number of monitored components and the cost of the whole monitoring system.

  • As the spread of LBS(Location Based Service), MDT(Mobile Data Terminal) and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) services using mobile terminals, various systems are under development to to manage the performance of these services. This paper describes a mobile performance management system which is implemented to test the performance of mobility between the user and the terminal or between the terminal and the mobile server automatically in the mobile-user field. The system has four modules: scenario management module, MDT monitoring, LBS monitoring, and PDA monitoring. The scenario management module manages the performance by monitoring all modules. The LBS monitoring module monitors LBS call attempt stage, call connecting stage, and LBS test for established connection. Thus, the LBS monitoring module manages the performance for every stage of the call. The MDT monitoring module monitors the performance according to the input command and the PDA monitoring module monitors according to the input from the set up and the execution menu.

  • Magnetic flux sensors are commonly used in monitoring the cable force, but the application of the sensors in large diameter non-closed Galfan cables, as those adopted in Yueqing Gymnasium which is located in Yueqing City, Zhejiang Province, China and is the largest span hybrid space structure in the world, is seldom done in engineering. Based on the construction of Yueqing Gymnasium, this paper studies the cable tension monitoring using the magnetic flux method across two stages, namely, the pre-calibration stage before the cable leaves the rigging factory and the field tension formation stage of the cable system. In the pre-calibration stage in the cable factory, a series of 1:1 full-scale comparative tests were carried out to study the feasibility and relability of this kind of monitoring method, and the influence on the monitoring results of charging and discharging voltage, sensor location, cable diameter and fitting method were also studied. Some meaningful conclusions were obtained. On this basis, the real-time cable tension monitoring system of the structure based on the magnetic flux method is established. During the construction process, the monitoring results of the cables are in good agreement with the data of the on-site pressure gauge. The work of this paper will provide a useful reference for cable force monitoring in the construction process of long-span spatial structures.

  • As the embedded software spreads in various areas, many development tools have been made to minimize the developing time. But these tools cannot be applicable to all the environment because they have been created for the specific platform. As such, this paper proposes an Embedded Monitoring System, which supports the various communication environment and removes the limitation of adaptability to the various platforms. Using the Code Inline technique, this system can perform the monitoring process. However, we should consider the optimization for the monitoring process and monitoring sensors because the technique has the monitoring sensor overhead. As such, this paper proposes an approach for initializing the monitoring process and a bit-masking technique for optimizing the monitoring sensor. The Embedded Monitoring System will be applicable to all the areas using embedded systems.

  • Due to dermal exposure to hazardous chemicals causing potential adverse health symptoms through skin absorption, dermal monitoring has had an important role in assessing such exposure. This paper overviews comparatively a number of studies of dermal monitoring with different methodologies such as surface monitoring, skin wiping, skin washing, adhesive methods and tape stripping, fluorescence and infrared spectroscopy, skin patches, pads and clothing, video exposure monitoring and dermal exposure assessment toolkits and models. However, there is a lack of information on the relationship between exposure levels and adverse health symptoms. Therefore, more specific strategies for dermal exposure monitoring should be developed and standardized with further development of biological and ocular monitoring.

  • Loan monitoring is a fundamental element of credit control. The importance of loan monitoring is to reduce loan defaults and to increase loan repayment performance. The ex-post monitoring can also increase the loan quality and thus a concern to many creditors in the market economy. This study identifies the role of ex-post monitoring on loan repayment performance in the context of rural Vietnam. Employing primary data from rural areas of Vietnam, this study investigates the impacts of ex-post monitoring on loan repayment performance of individual borrowers in terms of on-time loan repayment and the rate of loan repayment. Descriptions of borrower demographics, loan information, and ex-post monitoring show the initial picture of borrowers and loans in Vietnam's rural areas. Quantitative estimations that use the Probit and the Tobit model confirm the argument that better ex-post monitoring would result in better loan repayment performance in both on-time repayment and repayment rate. Thus, some policy suggestions have been made to improve the monitoring system in each financial institution. The study also indicates that some other factors too affect loan repayment performance such as borrower's characteristics (education, agricultural working area, and income) as well as loan's characteristics (loan size, maturity, and loan purpose).

  • A Battery Monitoring System capable of State-of-Charge(SOC) estimation using the Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) is described in this paper. In order to accurately estimate the SOC of the battery, the battery cells were modeled as the Thevenin equivalent circuit model. The Thevenin model's parameters were measured in experiments. For the Battery Monitoring System, we designed a battery monitoring device that can calculate the SOC estimation using the EKF and a monitoring server that controls multiple battery monitoring devices. We also develop a web-based dashboard for controlling and monitoring batteries. Especially the computation of the monitoring server could be reduced by calculating the battery SOC estimation at each Battery Monitoring Device.

  • This study examines the image management behavior according to self-monitoring, self-objectification of profile-based SNS users. Questionnaires were administered to 313 SNS users including both men and women in their 20s to 30s. The SPSS 25.0 package was utilized for data analysis, which included frequency analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's ?, t-test, and regression analysis. The study analyzed self-monitoring in 2 groups (high, low), self-objectification for 2 factors (body surveillance, body shame), and image management behavior for 5 factors (fashion oriented, instrumentality, conformity, ostentation, interpersonal disposition). The results revealed: first, self-monitoring groups exhibited significant differences in self-objectification. The higher self-monitoring group was more influenced by body surveillance and body shame compared to the low self-monitoring group. Second, self-objectification had a positive influence on all the factors of image management behavior. Especially, body surveillance demonstrated a high influence on instrumentality and body shame showed a high influence on ostentation. Third, the self-monitoring groups showed significant differences in all the factors of image management behavior. The higher self-monitoring group demonstrated more influence of image management behavior compared to the low self-monitoring group. These results provide useful information in understanding the influence of social media on users' psychological attitude and consciousness toward their body and image management behavior.
