The Investigation of Residential Area Changes by the Provision of Urban Linear Parks - Case Studies of the Regenerated Street Parks and the Uncovered Stream Parks in Seoul - (선형공원 조성에 의한 주변 주거지의 변화 분석 - 서울시 재생 가로공원과 복원하천 수변공원 사례 연구 -)

  • This study focused on the changes of residential area around the linear park. The goal of this study is to determine the value of linear park at the view of residents and discover the interaction between the linear park and the residential area around it. To investigate this goal, the researcher chose case sites, the regenerated linear park and the uncovered stream park. This study analyzed the site around the linear parks with four points of view, the organization of urban Fabric, architecture, the economic value of the site and the behavior of residents. This research adopted several research methodologies like aerial photograph analysis, road-view analysis, paper research, and field study, observation, and expert interview to approach as both quantitative and qualitative analysis. With that variation characteristic, the researcher determines the influence of linear park through the residential area around them. As the result, linear park gives positive effects of running sustainable residential area around them and acting as the pivot for the residential area. Also for the future, designers must consider this interactive relation between the linear park and residential area with the wide point of view.

Striving Towards a Holistic Innovation Policy in European Countries - But Linearity Still Prevails!

  • The concept of a holistic innovation policy is defined in this article, with discussions of what it is, why it is relevant, and how it can be implemented to enhance product innovation. It is shown that the innovation systems approach has diffused rapidly during the latest decades and has completely replaced the linear view in the field of innovation research. The majority of European countries are striving in the direction of developing a more holistic innovation policy. However, it is concluded that the innovation policies in European countries are still dominantly linear despite the fact that holistic policy seems to be the driving vision. Innovation policy is behindhand. Why innovation policy is still linear is also preliminarily discussed. Policymakers attending conferences on innovation are practically always in favor of holistic (systemic, broad-based, comprehensive, etc) innovation policies, have abandoned the linear view by learning from innovation research. The division between "linear" and "holistic" seems to be located within the community where innovation policies are designed and implemented, a community composed of policymakers (administrators/bureaucrats) and elected politicians. Perhaps the dividing line is between these two groups in that politicians, who actually make the decisions, may still reflexively believe in the linear view. Nevertheless, there seems to be a failure in communication between researchers and politicians in the field of innovation and there is therefore a strong need to involve innovation researchers in policy design and implementation to a much higher degree. Another way to increase the degree of holism could be to separate innovation policy from research policy, since their integration tends to cement the linear character of innovation policy. The empirical results are based on a questionnaire sent to twenty-three EU Member States, out of which nineteen (83%) responded. Part of the work for this article was carried out for the European Research and Innovation Area Committee (ERAC) of the European Commission (DG RTD).

Implementation of LabVIEW®-based Joint-Linear Motion Blending on a Lab-manufactured 6-Axis Articulated Robot (RS2) (LabVIEW® 기반 6축 수직 다관절 로봇(RS2)의 이종 모션 블랜딩 연구)

  • For fast and accurate motion of 6-axis articulated robot, more noble motion control strategy is needed. In general, the movement strategy of industrial robots can be divided into two kinds, PTP (Point to Point) and CP (Continuous Path). Recently, industrial robots which should be co-worked with machine tools are increasingly needed for performing various jobs, as well as simple handling or welding. Therefore, in order to cope with high-speed handling of the cooperation of industrial robots with machine tools or other devices, CP should be implemented so as to reduce vibration and noise, as well as decreasing operation time. This paper will realize CP motion (especially joint-linear) blending in 3-dimensional space for a 6-axis articulated (lab-manufactured) robot (called as "RS2") by using LabVIEW$^{(R)}$ (6) programming, based on a parametric interpolation. Another small contribution of this paper is the proposal of motion blending simulation technique based on Recurdyn$^{(R)}$ V7 and Solidworks$^{(R)}$, in order to figure out whether the joint-linear blending motion can generate the stable motion of robot in the sense of velocity magnitude at the end-effector of robot or not. In order to evaluate the performance of joint-linear motion blending, simple PTP (i.e., linear-linear) is also physically implemented on RS2. The implementation results of joint-linear motion blending and PTP are compared in terms of vibration magnitude and travel time by using the vibration testing equipment of Medallion of Zonic$^{(R)}$. It can be confirmed verified that the vibration peak of joint-linear motion blending has been reduced to 1/10, compared to that of PTP.

  • Nowadays, the necessity of linear position control motors have been increased in the various fields of the automatic control system. In the recently, the position control motor have disadvantaged in the efficiency and economical view since it require a conversion equipments such as belt and gear in order to convert rotary to linear motion. On the contrary, the hybrid linear stepping motor(HLSM) of linear motion digital actuator has a direct drive method that do not need mechanical conversion equipments. Therefore, the HLSM is better advantaged in the efficiency and economical view than a rotary stepping motor. In this paper, we have designed an optimum tooth shape and a permanent magnet value between the mover teeth by the 2D finite element method(FEM) to develop the HLSM with longitudinal flux machine(LFM) type, and calculated the thrust force and normal force. And we have manufactured the prototype of it. and have experimented the thrust force and the dynamic thrust characteristics of it.

  • We introduce feedback registers and definitions of complexity of a register or a sequence generated by it. In the view point of cryptography the linear complexity of an ultimately periodic sequence is important because large one gives an enemy infeasible jobs. We state some results about the linear complexity of sum and product of two LFSRs.

  • Many reported methods assume that the faces in an image or an image sequence have been identified and localization. Face detection from image is a challenging task because of variability in scale, location, orientation and pose. In this paper, we present an efficient linear discriminant for multi-view face detection. Our approaches are based on linear discriminant. We define training data with fisher linear discriminant to efficient learning method. Face detection is considerably difficult because it will be influenced by poses of human face and changes in illumination. This idea can solve the multi-view and scale face detection problem poses. Quickly and efficiently, which fits for detecting face automatically. In this paper, we extract face using fisher linear discriminant that is hierarchical models invariant pose and background. We estimation the pose in detected face and eye detect. The purpose of this paper is to classify face and non-face and efficient fisher linear discriminant..

  • A roentgenocephalometric approach was performed by the author for the purpose of investigating cranio-facial complex of normal Korean female adults. Thirty roentgenocephalograms of the Korean female adults with normal occlusion among one thousand and two hundreds of samples were selected for this research. Standards of each items of angular and linear measurements on lateral view and linear measurements in P-A view were figured out. In some items, co-relations were traced to search reciprocal relationships. Some of the measurements were compared with other reports.

  • In linear algebra course, the theory of vector space is usually presented in a very formal setting, which causes severe difficulties to many students. In this study, the effect of teaching the theory of vector space in linear algebra from the geometrical point of view on students' learning was investigated. It was found that the teaching of the theory of vector space in linear algebra from the geometrical point of view increases the meaningful loaming since it increases the visualization.

Linear Discriminant Clustering in Pattern Recognition

  • Fisher Linear Discriminant(FLD) is a sample and intuitive linear feature extraction method in pattern recognition. But in some special cases, such as un-separable case, one class data dispersed into several clustering case, FLD doesn't work well. In this paper, a new discriminant named K-means Fisher Linear Discriminant, which combines FLD with K-means clustering is proposed. It could deal with this case efficiently, not only possess FLD's global-view merit, but also K-means' local-view property. Finally, the simulation results also demonstrate its advantage against K-means and FLD individually.
