Pantograph-catenary Dynamic Interaction for a Overhead Line Supported by Noise Barrier

  • Subject of the paper is a particular configuration of overhead line, in which noise barrier structure is used as supports of the catenary instead of standard poles. This configuration is foreseen in case the noise barrier position is in conflict with the poles location. If the catenary is supported by the noise barrier, the motion that the latter undergo due to wave pressure associated to train transit is transmitted to the overhead line, so that potentially it influences the interaction between the catenary itself and the pantograph of the passing train. The paper focuses on the influence of such peculiar configuration on the quality of the current collection of high speed pantograph, for single and double current collection. The study has been carried out first with an experimental investigation on the pressure distribution on noise barrier, both in wind tunnel and with in-field tests. Subsequently a numerical analysis of the dynamics of the barrier subjected to the wave pressure due to train transit has been carried out, and the output of such analysis has been used as input data for the simulation of the pantograph-dynamic interaction at different speeds and with front or rear pantograph in operation. Consideration of structural modifications was then highlighted, in order to reduce the influence on the contact loss percentage.

Physical Marine Environment at the north of Wando and Gogeumdo Receiving the Effluents from Land (육수의 영향을 받는 완도 및 고금도 북부 해역의 해황 특성)

  • In order to grasp physical characteristics of Ganajin Bay receiving the effluents from land, a comprehensive field surve)'has been conducted at the north of Wando and Gogeumdo in 2002. Water temperature was most high in September while most low in December. A high temperature in September was inferred to have caused by the dispersion of warm fresh water with favor of a dominant wind in autumn. However, salinity and sigma-t in situ was most low in September while most high in December. A low salinity (or density) in September turned out to reflect the influence of a dense rainfall in summer. Water temperature, salinity and density at the surface layer were lower than those at the bottom layer, except for December. Their horizontal profiles suggested the influence of effluents such as Tamjin River. Particularly, time series of water temperature acquired near the sluice and at the north channel of Wando tended to rise at the flood flow but fall at the ebb flow in accordance with the tide. The form ratio of the tide in the study area was $0.31\~0.32$ and the amplitude of the tide appeared to increase towards the west. Northeastward or southwestward flows prevailed in this area but the residual flows were all northeastward with a magnitude of $3\~4cm/s$.

  • The design requirement for ground mounted sign structures are fairly well defined in the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries, and Traffic Signals and consists of applying an equivalent pseudo-dynamic loading to account for the dynamic effects of wind loads and ignores the dynamic effect due to moving vehicle loads. This design approach, however, should not be applied to the design of bridge mounted sign structures because ignoring the dynamic effects of the moving vehicle loads may produce non-conservative results, since the stiffness of the bridge structure can greatly influence the behavior. Not enough information is available in the literatures which provide guide lines to include the influence of moving vehicles in the design of the bridge mounted sign structures. This paper describes a theoretical methodology, Bridge-Vehicle Interaction Element, which can be utilized to account for the dynamic effect of moving vehicles. A case study is also included where this methodology was successfully applied. It was concluded that the bridge-vehicle interaction finite element developed can provide a more accurate representation of the behavior of bridge mounted sign structures. The result of these analysis enabled development of simple and effective retrofitting scheme for the existing support system of bridge-mounted-structure.

WiFi(RLAN) and a C-Band Weather Radar Interference

  • In the terrain of the Korean peninsula, mountainous and flat lands are complexly distributed in small areas. Therefore, local severe weather develops and disappears in a short time due to the influence of the terrain. Particularly in the case of local severe weather with heavy wind that has the greatest influence on aviation meteorology, the scale is very small, and it occurs and disappears in a short time, so it is impossible to predict with fragmentary data alone. So, we use weather radar to detect and predict local severe weather. However, due to the development of wireless communication services and the rapid increase of wireless devices, radio wave jamming and interference problems occur. In this research, we confirmed through the cases that when the radio interference echo which is one of the non-precipitation echoes that occur during the operation of the weather radar is displayed in the image, its form and shape are shown in a long bar shape, and have a strong dBZ. We also found the cause of the interference through the radio tracking process, and solved through the frequency channel negotiation and AP output minimizing. The more wireless devices increase as information communication technology develops in the future, the more emphasized the problem of radio wave interference will be, and we must make the radio interference eliminated through the development of the radio interference cancellation algorithm.

The Influence of Long-range Transport on Springtime Nocturnal Ozone Enhancement in Seoul (봄철 서울지역 야간 오존농도 상승에 미치는 장거리 수송의 영향)

  • In Seoul metropolitan area, nocturnal variation of surface ozone concentrations observed at 27 monitoring sites from 1998 to 2002 showed that high ozone levels occurred frequently during the spring. Frequency distributions for nighttime ozone indicated that elevated concentrations in spring were influenced by advection of different air mass compared to other seasons. Surface wind analysis during the spring revealed that relatively strong southwesterly winds were associated with nocturnal ozone enhancement, which can be attributed to the regional transport of ozone. In order to identify the origin of nocturnal ozone enhancement in spring, 3-day backward trajectories were calculated by HYSPLIT 4 for the episode days and then classified. The results showed that NW, W, and SW flows, indicating influence of polluted air masses from the China continent, have 51% in a]1 the episode days, which suggest that the nocturnal ozone enhancement can occur under the effect of long-range transport of ozone-laden air mass on a regional scale. Case study of nocturnal ozone maxima associated with long-range transport was discussed in more detail in the light of meteorological conditions. Southwesterly synoptic flow along the outer edge of moving high-pressure system was found to be the important cause of nocturnal ozone maxima in Seoul. This flow could lead to be long-range transport of ozone that had effectively accumulated in the stagnating portion of the system located eastern coast of China. Low atmosphere soundings, backward trajectories, and elevated ozone and CO levels at the back-ground tiles gave evidence for regional effects on nocturnal ozone enhancement In Seoul.

Numerical And Experimental Studies On Wing In Ground Effect

  • Numerical and experimental studies were performed to investigate the aerodynamic performance of a thin wing in close vicinity to the ground. The vortex lattice method (VLM) was utilized to simulate the wing in ground (WIG) effect, which included freely deforming wake elements. The numerical results acquired through the VLM were compared to the experimental results. The experiment entailed varying the ground clearance using the DHMTU (Department of Hydromechanics of the Marine Technical University of Saint Petersburg) wing and the WIG craft model in the wind tunnel. The aero-dynamic influence of the design parameters, such as angles of attack, aspect ratios, taper ratios, and sweep angles were studied and compared between the numerical and experimental results associated with the WIG craft. Both numerical and experimental results suggested that the endplate augments the WIG effect for a small ground clearance. In addition, the vortex lattice method simulated the wake deformation following the wing in the influence of the ground effect.

Impacts of anthropogenic heating on urban boundary layer in the Gyeong-In region (인공열이 도시경계층에 미치는 영향 - 경인지역을 중심으로 -)

  • This study investigates the influence of anthropogenic heat (AH) release on urban boundary layer in the Gyeong-In region using the Weather Research and Forecasting model that includes the Seoul National University Urban Canopy Model (SNUUCM). The gridded AH emission data, which is estimated in the Gyeong-In region in 2002 based on the energy consumption statistics data, are implemented into the SNUUCM. The simulated air temperature and wind speed show good agreement with the observed ones particularly in terms of phase for 11 urban sites, but they are overestimated in the nighttime. It is found that the influence of AH release on air temperature is larger in the nighttime than in the daytime even though the AH intensity is larger in the daytime. As compared with the results with AH release and without AH release, the contribution of AH release on urban heat island intensity is large in the nighttime and in the morning. As the AH intensity increases, the water vapor mixing ratio decreases in the daytime but increases in the nighttime. The atmospheric boundary layer height increases greatly in the morning (0800 - 1100 LST) and midnight (0000 LST). These results indicate that AH release can have an impact on weather and air quality in urban areas.

  • Islands that is far away from onshore have used internal-combustion engine driving alternators to secure electric power. However, with Paris convention on climate change, there is a growing interest in eco-friendly energy independent island that replaces microgrid(MG) consisting of photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage system with alternators for internal combustion engines. And also, national emission trading has been implemented, and the price of certified emission reduction(CER) has a influence on system marginal price(SMP). Because, the low cost generation source decides SMP when CER price is low, while the more expensive generation source decides SMP when CER price is high. Therefore, the increasing of CER price has a strong influence on the annualized return of MG independent power producer. Moreover, the fixed RPS price is implemented from 2017, which the increasing of CER price under the fixed RPS price or the variable RPS price affects annualized return differently. In this paper, the annualized return according to CER price is analyzed for large, middle, and small scaled islands, the effect of CER price on the annualized return was confirmed.

  • The rail temperature is important to preserve the joint gap for standard length of rail and to determine the installation temperature which has direct influence on the rail buckling and failure in welded part for continuous welded rail(CWR), Therefore, we have measured and investigated various characteristics of rail temperature for each kind of rail. As the results of this, the correlation between the atmosphere temperature and the rail temperature which is commonly used by Korean Railway should be reconsidered. Also, the daily highest '||'&'||' lowest rail temperature was occurred when each temperature is higher and when it's lower. For the light rail, the rail temperature by the sun-light increases quickly and decreases late. But the time where the highest temperature is attained is same. There are some differences between the shade and sunny place about 3.0∼4.0$\^{C}$. The temperature of rail web is almost close to the conversion rail temperature for rail expansion. The wind of 1 m/s has an influence on the rail temperature around 5$\^{C}$.

  • The structure such as building and cultural properties was composed of various materials like wood, metal and stone that have been utilized and exposed to air, wind and rain far a long time. However, because of their special characteristics as structure, collecting of samples that may involve their destruction cannot be permitted, ever for material analysis. Therefore, h order to study the Influence of atmospheric pollution on structure, atmospheric corrosion tests were achieved by making use of materials(bronze. ancient copper, copper, steel and marble) in field exposure tests. Atmospheric exposure sites are selected from places which are characterized by urban, rural, Industrial and marine enoronments In Northeast Asia. According to the results of atmospheric corrosion tests: The corrosion rates of Industrial states In china were more serious than other sampling sites. In the correlation of meteorological factors. wet hours was defiled as Intogeacted hours under that atmospheric temperature is above $0^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity in above 80% that has a great influence on corrosion tests of materials in case of a short time. The relative humidity was above about 75% that resulted in great increase of corrosion rates. In the esimation of corrosion rates between materials, corrosion rates of steel was about thirty times and decuple larger than that of other materials excluding marble in unshelterd exposure and In sheltered exposure.
