  • This study was carried out to research the influence of climatic conditions including wind direction, wind speed on air pollution in Seoul. The data were obtained from the 4 sites of air pollution monitoring stations in Seoul from '95 to '96, and analyzed statistically by SAS program. The results were as follows 1. The prevailing wind directions by season in each site were as follows Nangajwa-dong were showed SE in spring, fall, winter and WNW in summer. Ssangmun-dong were showed NW in spring, fall, winter and NNE in summer. Kuro-dong were showed SW in spring, summer, ENE in fall and NW in winter. Bangi-dong were showed WNW in four seeasons. 2. The concentrations of 5 kinds(SO$_2$, Dust, NO$_2$, CO, THC) of air pollutants were relatively low in west wind. In case of O$_3$ was opposite. 3. The concentrations of 5 kinds of air pollutants were increase with decreasing wind speeds. 4. The washing effects of air pollution by rain were significant. The concentrations of 5 kinds of air pollutants were high when the humidity were 61-80%, and low as it were 0-20%. In case of O$_3$ was opposite. 5. All of air pollutants concentrations but O$_3$ were high when the UV intensity level and temperature within the range of above zero were low level.

  • This paper presents the modeling and power quality analysis of Jeju island power system connected with wind farm, and thermal power plant. It is for indicating the influence of wind farm operation in steady and transient state in Jeju island power system during the HVDC system overhaul period. For the computer simulation, three kinds of main item are modeled, which are 67[MW] wind farm, thermal power plant and Jeju power load. To analyze the influence of the wind power generation to the Jeju power system, two kinds of simulations are carried out by using the PSCAD/EMTDC program. One is the steady state operation under the variable speed wind, and the other is the transient state operation when all of wind farms in Jeju island are disconnected from the Jeju power grid instantaneously on the rated power output. With the comparison of these results, it is useful for analyzing the power quality of Jeju power system versus wind power generation.

  • In order to identify positive or negative effect of seawall on wind turbine, a wind tunnel experiment has been conducted with a 1/100 scaled-down model of Goonsan wind farm which is located in West coast along seawall. Wind speedup due to the slope of seawall contributed to about 3% increment of area-averaged wind speed on rotor-plane of a wind turbine which is anticipated to augment wind power generation. From the turbulence measurement and flow visualization, it was confirmed that there would be no negative effect due to flow separation because its influence is confined below wind turbine blades' sweeping height.

  • The seasonal mean wind direction and wind speed in a greater coasting area are investigated using the ECMWF(European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) data for 11 years from 1985 to 1995. In winter, the main wind direction in Korea and vicinity, Taiwan and vicinity, and the North Pacific Ocean of middle latitudes is a northwesterly wind, northeasterly wind, and westerly wind respectively. The wind speed is strongest in the East China Sea, the South China Sea, and the North Pacific Ocean of low latitudes(Beaufort wind scale 5-6). A distribution pattern of wind direction in spring and fall is similar to that in winter. Seasonal mean wind speed is strongest in winter and the next is fall. The wind speed in summer is generally weak. However, that in the Indochina and vicinity is strong by the influence of Asian monsoon.

  • The aim of this study was to explore the influence of structure coupling effect on structural damping of blade based on the blade vibration characteristic. For this purpose, the scaled blade model of NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine was processed and employed in the wind tunnel test to validate the reliability of theoretical and numerical models. The attenuation curves of maximum displacement and the varying curves of equivalent damping coefficient of the blade under the rated condition were respectively compared and analyzed by constructing single blade model and whole machine model. The attenuation law of blade dynamic response was obtained and the structure coupling effect was proved to exert a significant influence on the equivalent damping coefficient. The results indicate that the attenuation trend of the maximum displacement response curve of the single blade varies more obviously with the increase of elastic modulus as compared to that under the structure coupling effect. In contrast to the single blade model, the varying curve of equivalent damping coefficient with the period is relatively steep for the whole machine model. The findings are of great significance to guide the structure design and material selection for wind turbine blades.

  • When the train travels quickly, in the center of city subway tunnel the strong wind blows caused by its piston effect, and the train wind blows while train enter the subway station with this effect. The train wind brings unpleasantness which passenger's hair wavering and the skirts of passengers flapping severely, and critical situations to the old and the weak people. It considers seriously like this, the research is meant to find extent of subway train wind influence on the passengers from the part Seoul subway stations.

  • Since th three sides of korea peninsula are surrounded by the sea, electric apparatus are greatly contaminated by the salt generated by the typhoon, seasonal wind, sea wind and sea fog. This contamination causes electric power apparatus to fail. Thus in this paper, we investigated to influence upon electrical properties of outdoor insulators with non-uniformity contamination in the experimental condition because The contamination of outdoor insulator highly depended wind property In the service condition, insulator was not uniformly contaminated. From the flashover test for the 254 mm suspension insulator, we could determine the influence non-uniform contamination on the electrical property of insulators. Through the experiment, we convinced to occur flashover from non-uniform contamination region of outdoor insulator. Contaminated area and pattern has a close relationship with the electrical properties of outdoor insulator.

  • Construction of wind power plant is rapidly increasing since Jeju is known as the most suitable regarding wind power plants in Korea. But implementing wind power generation inevitably introduces new challenges due to its intermittent nature. In the paper, it is introduced the influence analysis and Han-Kyung wind power plants contribution on Jeju power system.

  • A wind tunnel test of a scaled-down model and field measurement were effective methods for elucidating the aerodynamic behavior of a chimney under a wind load. Therefore, the relationship between the results of the wind tunnel test and the field measurement had to be determined. Accordingly, the set-up and testing method in the wind tunnel had to be modified from the field measurement to simulate the real behavior of a chimney under the wind flow with a larger Reynolds number. It enabled the results of the wind tunnel tests to be correlated with the field measurement. The model surface roughness and different turbulence intensity flows were added to the test. The simulated results of the wind tunnel test agreed with the full-scale measurements in the mean surface pressure distribution behavior.

  • Offshore wind farm is being increased since there are much trouble to develop onshore wind farm. But in the offshore, wind turbine wake does not dissipate less than onshore wind turbine because of low turbulence level. Thus this remained wake interacted to other wind turbine. This interaction reduces energy production in wind farm and have a bad influence on fatigue load of wind turbine. In this research, CFD model was constructed to analyze wake effect in offshore wind farm. A method that wind turbine rotor region was modelled in porous media was devised to reduce computation load and validated by comparison with Horns Rev measurement. Then wake interaction between two wind turbine was analyzed by devised porous model.
