  • The detector of a focal-plane-array mid-wave infrared (MWIR) camera has different response characteristics for each detector pixel, resulting in nonuniformity between detector pixels. In addition, image nonuniformity occurs due to heat generation inside the camera during operation. To solve this problem, in the process of camera manufacturing it is common to use a gain-and-offset table generated from a blackbody to correct the difference between detector pixels. One method of correcting nonuniformity due to internal heat generation during the operation of the camera generates a new offset value based on input frame images. This paper proposes a technique for dividing an input image into block image patches and generating offset values using only homogeneous patches, to correct the nonuniformity that occurs during camera operation. The proposed technique may not only generate a nonuniformity-correction offset that can prevent motion marks due to camera-gaze movement of the acquired image, but may also improve nonuniformity-correction performance with a small number of input images. Experimental results show that distortion such as flow marks does not occur, and good correction performance can be confirmed even with half the number of input images or fewer, compared to the traditional method.

  • A three-dimensional Galerkin-FEM model which can handle the temporal and spatial variation of density is presented. The hydrostatic approximation is used and density effects are included by means of conservation equation of heat and the equation of state. The finite difference grids are used in the horizontal plane and a set of linear-shape functions is used for the vertical expansion. The similarity transform is introduced to solve resultant matrix equations. The proposed model was first applied to the density-driven circulation in an idealized basin in the presence of the heat exchange between the air and the sea. The advection terms in the momentum equation were ignored, while the convection terms were retained in the heat equation. Coefficients of the vertical eddy viscosity and diffusivity were fixed to be constant. Calculation in a non-rotating idealized basin shows that the difference in heat capacity with depth gives rise to the horizontal gradient of temperature. Consequently, there is a steady new in the upper layer in the direction of increasing depth with compensatory counter flow .in the lower layer. With Coriolis force, geostrophic flow was predominant due to the balance between the pressure gradient and the Coriolis force. As a test in region of irregular topography, the model is applied to the Yellow Sea. Although the resultant flow was very complex, the character of the flow Showed to be geostrophic on the whole.

  • The need to improve the performance of the dust collector by increasing the fine dust pollution in Korea is eminent. In this study, electrostatic spray wet electrostatic precipitator is used to remove Particulate Matter (PM). In order to enter the Cone-jet mode, which is the most stable spray mode among the various modes of electrostatic spraying, an appropriate voltage-flow condition must be satisfied, and a voltage-flow interval enabling this can be expressed as Stability Island. The voltage at which the conduit mode starts in the Stability Island section is referred to as the electrostatic spray minimum voltage (Onset Voltage). However, the conventional electrostatic spray is uses a very low flowrate, at most few millilitres per minute. The use of much higher flowrates has introduced different patterns of electrospray modes. In this study, the different spray modes will be studied in detail.

  • In order to investigate water flow characteristics after inrushing in process of karst tunnel excavation, numerical simulations for five case studies of water inrush from the tunnel floor are carried out by using the FLUENT software on the background of Qiyueshan high risk karst tunnel. Firstly, the velocity-distance curves and pressure-distance curves are drawn by selecting a series of probing lines in a plane. Then, the variation characteristics of velocity and pressure are analyzed and the respective optimized escape routes are made. Finally, water flow characteristics after inrushing from the tunnel floor are discussed and summarized by comparing case studies under the conditions of different water-inrush positions and excavation situations. The results show that: (1) Tunnel constructors should first move to the tunnel side wall and then escape quickly when water inrush happens. (2) Tunnel constructors must not stay at the intersection area of the cross passage and tunnels when escaping. (3) When water inrush from floor happens in the left tunnel, if tunnel constructors meet the cross passage during escaping, they should pass through it rapidly, turn to the right tunnel and run to the entrance. (4) When water inrush from floor happens in the left tunnel, if there is not enough time to escape, tunnel constructors can run to the trolley and other equipment in the vicinity of the right tunnel working face. In addition, some rescuing equipment can be set up at the high location of the cross passage. (5) When water inrush from floor happens in the cross passage, tunnel constructors should move to the tunnel side wall quickly, turn to the tunnel without water inrush and run to the entrance. (6) When water inrush from floor happens in the cross passage, if there is not enough time to escape, tunnel constructors can run to the trolley and other equipment near by the left or the right tunnel working face. The results are of important practical significance and engineering value to ensure the safety of tunnel construction.

  • The strength theory of concrete is significant to structure design and nonlinear finite element analysis of concrete structures because concrete utilized in engineering is usually subject to the action of multi-axial stress. Experimental results have revealed that lightweight aggregate (LWA) concrete exhibits plastic flow plateau under high compressive stress and most of the lightweight aggregates are crushed at this stage. For the purpose of safety, therefore, in the practical application the strength of LWA concrete at the plastic flow plateau stage should be regarded as the ultimate strength under multi-axial compressive stress state. With consideration of the strength criterion, the ultimate strength surface of LWA concrete under multi-axial stress intersects with the hydrostatic stress axis at two different points, which is completely different from that of the normal weight concrete as that the ultimate strength surface is open-ended. As a result, the strength criteria aimed at normal weight concrete do not fit LWA concrete. In the present paper, a multi-axial strength criterion for LWA concrete is proposed based on the Unified Twin-Shear Strength (UTSS) theory developed by Prof Yu (Yu et al. 1992), which takes into account the above strength characteristics of LWA under high compressive stress level. In this strength criterion model, the tensile and compressive meridians as well as the ultimate strength envelopes in deviatoric plane under different hydrostatic stress are established just in terms of a few characteristic stress states, i.e., the uniaxial tensile strength $f_t$, the uniaxial compressive strength $f_c$, and the equibiaxial compressive $f_{bc}$. The developed model was confirmed to agree well with experimental data under different stress ratios of LWA concrete.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the mixing flow of a turbulent cross jet in a cylindrical chamber. A study on the turbulent mixing flow of a cross jet at 45.deg. with respect to each other in the free atmospheric condition was conducted before this study and has given us some fundamental experimental results. Present data have been analyzed and compared with semi-empirical equations for a round and a plane jets. Interests on this kind of cross jets (flows) have been increasing during the past several years for the purpose of the analysis of mixing flows and their applications. In this study, a turbulent cross jet of air in a cylindrical chamber has been conducted and the turbulent characteristics in the mixing region have been analyzed experimentally. The experimental data were discussed by comparing with the semi-empirical equations of Hinze and Gortler. From the experimental curve, the semi-empirical equations of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses have been derived. Three dimensional data acquisitions and the statistical treatments of turbulence characteristics were carried out by on-line computer measurement system connected with the constant temperature type 2-channel hot-wire anemometer system.

  • The fluvial sequence developed along the channel margin of meander bends in the midstream of the Yeongsan River consists of channel deposits at the bottom and overbank deposits at the top, and shows a fining-upward trend. The fluvial deposits consist of 7 sedimentary facies, and facies association forms 7 architectural elements. The channel deposits formed as channel bar or point bar. The channel bar deposits consisted of architectural element of gravel bedform were formed by channel lag deposits within the channel; whereas, the channel bar deposits consisted of architectural elements of downcurrent-dipping inclined strata sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and horizontally stratified sets were formed by downstream migration of sand wave or downstream transport of sand by traction current in the upper flow regime conditions within the channel. The point bar deposits consist of architectural elements of down current-dipping inclined strata sets, horizontally stratified sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and laterally inclined and horizontally stratified sets. These architectural elements are thought to have been formed by the combined effects of the migration of sand dunes and the formation of horizontal lamination in the upper flow regime plane bed conditions. The overbank deposits consist of the architectural elements of overbank fine and sand sheet and lens. The overbank fines were formed by settling of mud from slackwater during flooding over floodplain whereas the sand sheet and lens were formed by traction of sands introduced episodically fiom channel to the overbank during flooding.

  • A sudden pressure drop caused by the pressure relief valve acts as a strong noise source and propagates the compressible pressure fluctuation along the pipe wall, which becomes a excitation source of Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV). Therefore, in this study, the numerical methodology is developed to evaluate the reduction effect of compressible pressure fluctuation due to curved pipe in the pressure relief valve system. To describe the acoustic wave caused by density fluctuation, unsteady compressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique, which is high accuracy numerical method, Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid scale model is applied. Wavenumber-frequency analysis is performed to extract the compressible pressure fluctuation component, which is propagated along the pipe, from the flow field, and it is based on the wall pressure on the upstream and downstream pipe from the curved pipe. It is shown that the plane wave and the 1st mode component in radial direction are dominant along the downstream direction, and the overall acoustic power was reduced by 3 dB through the curved pipe. From these results, the noise reduction effect caused by curved pipe is confirmed.

  • In this study, the failure analysis of the internal tube occurred in the high pressure feedwater heater for power generation boiler of 500 MW supercritical pressure coal fired power plant was investigated. I suggested a prediction model that can diagnose internal tube failure by changing the position of level control valve on the shell side and the suction flow rate of the boiler feedwater pump. The suggested prediction model is demonstrated through additional cases of feedwater system unbalance. The simultaneous comparison of the shell side level control valve position and the suction flow rate of the boiler feedwater pump compared to the normal operating state value, even in the case of the high pressure feedwater heater for the power boiler, It can be a powerful prediction diagnosis.

  • This paper presents a novel camera tracking method based on model with multiple planes. The proposed algorithm detects QR code that is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. A 3D model is imported from the detected QR code for augmented reality application. Based on the geometric property of the model, the vertices are detected and tracked using optical flow. A clipping algorithm is applied to identify each plane from model surfaces. The proposed method estimates the homography from coplanar feature correspondences, which is used to obtain the initial camera motion parameters. After deriving a linear equation from many feature points on the model and their 3D information, we employ DLT(Direct Linear Transform) to compute camera information. In the final step, the error of camera poses in every frame are minimized with local Bundle Adjustment algorithm in real-time.
