  • We present a study of five open clusters (Alessi 53, Berkeley 49, Berkeley 84, Czernik 5, Pfleiderer 3) based on ugriz images of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Physical properties of these clusters are not yet well known. The center and size of these clusters are determined using the radial number density profile. Using the proper motion data, we select the members of the target clusters. We estimate physical parameters of the clusters based on the isochrone fitting in the Color-Magnitude Diagram (CMD) : reddening, distance, and age. The foreground reddening is determined to be E(B-V)=0.71-1.55 mag. The distances to target clusters are derived to be 2.0-4.4 kpc, corresponding to the galactocentric distances of 7.5-11.9 kpc. Their ages are in the range of 280 to 1000 Myr. Their spatial distribution in our Galaxy is similar to that of other intermediate-age open clusters. We find ten blue straggler star candidates in Berkeley 49. This number of blue stragglers is a typical value for the age of Berkeley 49.

  • A new method has been developed to solve the star cluster membership problem. It is based on synthetic photometry employing the Black Body concept as stellar radiation simulator. Synthetic color-magnitude diagram is constructed showing the main sequence band and the positions of binary star systems of combinations of various components through different photometric tracks. The method has been applied to the Hyades. The cluster membership problem has been re-appraised for the cluster (both single and binary) stars. For the binary members, the components' spectral types have been derived by the method. The results obtained agree very well with those found in literature, The method is simpler than the others and can be developed to undertake other cases as multiple star systems.

  • We present UBV CCD photomety of the metal-poor globular cluster M30. The data were obtained using the 40 inch telescope at Mt. Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatory (MSSSO). We used DAOPHOT CCD reduction package in order to obtain Color-Magnitude Diagram (CMD). We have derived some fundametal parameters of the globular cluster such as metal abundance ([Fe/H]), helium abundance (Y), and distance modulus (m-M) from the CMD. The derived parameters were [Fe/H]=-2.50, Y=0.28, and (m-M)=14.64. From the latter, the distance of 8.3kpc is obtained. Despite the photometric uncertainty near the main-sequence turnoff, we estimate the age of M30 to be 1.6${\pm}$3 Gyrs from the Revised Yale Isocyrones. If [O/Fe]=+0.4, this age will be reduced to 14.2${\pm}$3 Gyrs.

  • UBVI CCD photometry is obtained for the Ruprecht 93 (Ru 93)region. We are unable to confirm the existence of an intermediate-age open cluster in Ru 93 from the spatial distribution of blue stars. On the other hand, we find two young star groups in the observed field: the nearer one (Ru 93 group) comprises the field young stars in the Sgr-Car arm at $d{\approx}2.1$ kpc, while the farther one (WR 37 group) is the young stars around WR 37 at $d{\approx}4.8$ kpc. We derive an abnormal extinction law ($R_V$ = 3.5) in the Ruprecht 93 region.

  • We report the discovery of 17 new RR Lyrae variables in the central region ($\rleq1'$) of the globular cluster M53. There candidates were identified by using the Welch & Stetson (1993) technique and confirmed by checking individual light curves in both B and V bands. The color-magnitude diagram of the horizontal-branch stars in the central region is compared with that for stars observed in the outer region by Rey et al. (1998). Including the new data from this study, we estimate the fraction of c typeRR Lyrae variables, n(c)/n(ab + c), to be 0.43 which agrees well with the valuse of other Oosterhoff group II clusters.

  • As more spectroscopic observations accumulate, it becomes evident that there are variations in light elements, such as C, N, O, and Na, between the sub-populations in most globular clusters (GC) in the Milky Way. We have constructed a new set of isochrones and horizontal branch evolutionary tracks with enhanced Nitrogen and depleted Oxygen to study their effects on the evolution of stars in GCs. From these results, we found that their effects on the evolution in color-magnitude diagram are significant in determining the age of GCs. In order to reflect these effects in the construction of population models for GCs, we have expanded the parameter space of Yonsei-Yale Isochrones and HB evolutionary tracks by introducing abundance enhancements of N for various global metal abundances and helium contents. In this paper, we will present our preliminary results from these calculations.

  • We present UBV CCD Photometry of the very metal-poor globular duster M3O,covering a region of r f 100 arcsec from the duster center. The data was obtained from the 40 inch telescope at Mt Soomlo Siding Spring Observator in August 1992. We used DAOPHOT CCD reudction package for data reduction to obtain Color-Magnitude Diagram(CMD). We have determined some fludamental parameters of the globular Ouster such as metal abundance, helium abundance and distance from the CMD. finally, we have attempted to determine the age of M3O using the revised Yale isochrones.

  • We study the overdensity of near-infrared sources around 508 sub-mm sources classified as dusty galaxies in the SPT-SZ survey catalog observed in 95 GHz (3.15 mm), 150 GHz (2 mm) and 250 GHz (1.2 mm) bands. We used the VISTA hemisphere survey data release 6 (VHS DR6) catalog covering the J, H, Ks bands. The mean number of galaxies within a radius of 60 arcsec (corresponding to about 500 kpc at z=2) from 500 randomly selected positions is 14.4, while the galaxy number distribution is approximated as a Gaussian with a standard deviation of 7.9. From the 2500 deg2 of SPT-SZ survey + VHS DR6 data, there were 27 sub-mm sources that have galaxy overdensity higher than 4σ. We present color-magnitude diagram around 27 selected sub-mm sources with enhanced galaxy surface densities, in order to investigate the presence of structure around sub-mm sources.

  • The first large-format CCD color-magnitude diagram (CMD) in the B and V passbands is presented for the Galactic globular cluster M53 (NGC 5024). We have discovered 117 new blue straggler (BS) candidates in the field of M53. The analysis of bright BS stars (V <19.0) clearly shows a bimodal radial distribution, with a high frequency in the inner and outer regions. The distribution is similar to that found in M3, a globular cluster with similar central density and concentration.

  • From the short-period variability survey (SPVS) in Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, we obtained time-series BV CCD images in the region of an open cluster M38 (NGC 1912) for 23 nights from February 1, 2007 to December 7, 2008. We found 18 $\delta$ Scuti stars and 2 $\gamma$ Doradus stars. Among them, only 3 $\delta$ Scuti stars were known ones. From the color-magnitude diagram (CMD) of M38, most of them have been located in the instability strip. The two $\gamma$ Doradus stars have been located within $\gamma$ Doradus strip of M38. But, only four $\delta$ Scuti stars were located within radius 10' from the center of M38. To confirm of their membership for M38, we need more study, such as, proper motion by spectroscopic observation.
