In order to compare bacteria] community structure and diversity in activated sludges, terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) of PCR-amplified 16s rDNAs was analyzed for 31 domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants (WTPs). Regardless of the characteristics of the wastewaters, the bacteria] community structures of activated sludges appeared diverse and complex. In particular, activated sludges in domestic WTPs contained higher bacterial diversity than those in industrial WTPs. It was also found that terminal restriction fragment (T-RF) profiles derived from domestic WTPs were very similar with each other, although activated sludges were collected from different plants at different locations. Interestingly, activated sludges of a WTP where restaurant and toilet sewages of a company were managed showed a bacterial community structure similar to that of domestic WTPs. Activated sludges in leather industria] WTPs also showed a high similarity. However, other wastewaters possessed different bacterial communities, so that overall similarity was as low as about $30\%$. Since activated sludges from WTPs for domestic wastewaters and a company sewage appeared to hold similar bacterial communities, it was necessary to confirm if similar wastewaters induce a similar bacterial community. To answer this question, analysis of T-RFs for activated sludges, taken from another 12 domestic WTPs, was conducted by using a 6FAM$^{TM}$-Iabeled primer and an automated DNA sequencer for higher sensitivity. Among 12 samples, it was again found that T-RF profiles of activated sludges from Yongin, Sungnam, Suwon, and Tancheon domestic WTPs in Kyonggi-do were very similar with each other. On the other hand, T-RF profiles of activated sludges from Shihwa and Ansan WTPs were quite different from each other. It was thought that this deviation was caused by wastewaters, since Ansan and Shihwa WTPs receive both domestic and industrial wastewaters. From these results, it was tentatively concluded that similar bacterial communities might be developed in activated sludges, if WTPs treat similar wastewaters.
This study identified and evaluated conditions for continued participation of private forest owners in forest carbon offset programs. The probability of continuing forest carbon offset projects, which delays greenhouse gas emissions by extending harvesting periods, increases with increasing price of carbon offset credits, public recognition of forest value, and education level. Willingness to Accept (WTA) was estimated using a Multiple Bounded Dichotomous Choice Question, which was 17,039 KRW/tCO2 for extending age to 60 years, and 23,070 KRW/tCO2 for 100 years. The following findings aim to promote participation and supply of carbon offset programs in private forests according to the study outcomes. First, introducing policies supporting private forest owners bearing opportunity costs for avoiding greenhouse gas emissions by postponing timber harvest is needed. Second, educational programs for private forest owners whose awareness of and interests in the public value of forest is necessary. Third, although having participated from the beginning of the offset program, finding ways to lead continuous participation of forest owners who are less likely to accept WTA is also necessary.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics and changes in epistemic thinking when an argument-based inquiry science class was applied in no face-to-face and face-to-face situations. Participants of this study were 113 8th grade students of four classes from a coed educational middle school in a metropolitan city. Data collection was made over one semester during which ten argument-based inquiry science lessons on five subjects were conducted in both no face-to-face and face-to-face context. As a result of comparing and analyzing students' epistemic thinking in the argumentation of each group's generating question stage, the no face-to-face classes showed higher understanding of contents and more evidence suggestion validity than face-to-face classes did. Claim validity and categories of process in argumentation were higher in face-to-face classes than No face-to-face classes. Students were able to improve their understanding of knowledge through writing by discussing rather than direct communication in no face-to-face situations, and in face-to-face situations, students showed that their thoughts were influenced by interpersonal relationships with the group members.

The study is to observe a degree of relation between quality of life and a degree of walking exercise for adult residents of cities of Korea. From data of the 4th round 3rd-year Korea National Health and Examination Survey, 7,851 in which 3,892 were male residents and 3,959 females, were selected as subjects, excluding 723 who didn't answer at least more than one question for 5th degree of EQ-5D and physical activities. As a result, quality of life showed statistically significant relation among gender, education level, spouses, average monthly income, stress, a number of chronic diseases, health recognition and whether walking exercise undertaken. Especially one who carried out walking exercise showed higher quality of life than one who did not. This showed more significant difference of quality of life between whether the exercise was undertaken and whether it is intensified or intermediate. Therefore, in accordance with results of this study, it is necessary to develop an effective exercise program that is designed to let residents to exercise in a regular basis and to guarantee a sustainable support from government.
In this paper, we correct pulse wave velocity(PWV) with heart-rate and derive regression equations to estimate intima-media thickness(IMT). Widely used methods for diagnosis of arteriosclerosis are IMT and PWV. Arterial wall stiffness determines the degree of energy absorbed by the elastic aorta and its recoil in diastole but there is not correlation between sclerosis and IMT in an existing study. In this study, we will correct PWV with heart-rate and get regression equation to estimate IMT using heart-rate correction index(HCI). We executed experiments for this study. Made up question of physical condition and measured electrocardiogram(ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG) of finger-tip and toe-tip and ultrasound image of carotid artery. Calculated PWV and IMT using ECG, PPG and ultrasound image. We found that every p-value between PWV and IMT is not significant(<0.05). But p-value between IMT and HCI which is a corrected PWV using heart-rate is significant(>0.01). We use HCI and various measured parameter for estimating regression equation and apply backward estimation to select parameters for regression analysis. Result of backward estimation, found that only HCI is possible to derive proper regression equation of IMT. Relationship between PWV and IMT is the second order. Result of regression equation of E-H PWV is $R^2$=0.735, adj $R^2$=0.711. This is the best correlation value. We calculate error of its analysis for verification of earlobe PWV regression equation. Its result is RMSEP=0.0328, MAPE(%) = 4.7622. Like this regression analysis, we know that HCI is useful parameter and relationship between PWV, HCI and IMT. In addition, we are able to suggest possibility which is that we can get different parameter of prediction throughout just one measurement.
This study was executed to find out the outcome of Incremental Dental Care from September to November, 2004. 40 visitors to oral health center were examined on the oral conditions every week, seven times during above-mentioned period. Various tests were practiced in order to check their oral conditions before and after IDC such as tooth-brushing method/frequency/duration, calculus index, PHP index, halitosis and dental caries activity. Question and answer sheets were presented to student dental hygienists and 40 visitors respectively after IDC program. Results obtained are as follows. 1. Rotation method of toothbrushing increased from 27.8% to 88.9%. for men and increased from 27.3% to 95% for women. 2. Toothbrushing frequency increased from 2.8 times to 3.0 times a day for men and increased from 2.6 times to 3.1 times for women. Toothbrushing duration increased from 2.3 minutes to 2.8 minutes for men and increased from 2.1 minutes to 2.9 minutes for women. 3. Calculus index reduced from 0.5 to 0.1 for men and reduced from 0.7 to 0 for women. PHP index reduced from 3.7 to 3.0 for men and reduced 3.2 to 1.7 for women. However, halitosis didn't mark any significant difference before and after IDC. 4. Saliva buffering capacity of medium plus showed no change for men(94.5%), however increased from 95.4% to 100% for women. Dental caries activity of medium plus in S.mutans reduced by 4.3 times(72.2% to 16.7%) for men and reduced by 2 times(36.4% to 18.1%) for women. LB test results reduced by 1.5 times(50% to 33.3%) for men and reduced by 2.5 times(50% to 18.1%) for women. Alban's test results reduced by 1.4 times(83.3% to 61.1%) for men and reduced by 1.2 times(81.8% to 68.2%) for women. 5. All participants including visitors and students realized the importance of IDC and expressed a great satisfaction with IDC program. In conclusion, it is considered very necessary that IDC program should be maintained and extended to whole country so as to enhance the peoples' oral health conditions.

This study investigated caregivers' communication styles and children's emotional development. Emotion-laden puzzle tasks were used to elicit caregivers' communication styles while interacting with their children. Participants included children with Down syndrome (N=10) and typical children (N=15) and their caregivers. As expected, caregivers of children with Down syndrome (DS) used more behavior and attention directives with their children, and caregivers of typical children used more conversation-eliciting prompts with their children. Parents of children with Down syndrome also used a unique communication style in which they asked a question and immediately answered it themselves. Additionally, caregivers of typical children focused more on emotion concepts in their communications with their children and caregivers of DS used more cognitive concepts such as labeling colors and shapes. The results revealed that caregivers of children with Down syndrome usually tried to educate children by emphasizing cognitive concepts to compensate for their delayed development. Because the children are delayed in their emotional development, parents may need help in intervening on the area of emotional development.
This study was planned for an empirical review of foodservice operation in expressway rest areas for a menu strategy targeting staff and customers. The results were as follows. Main foodservice category included 10-30 items of Korean dishes. The needs for having branded foodservice menu in rest areas were high in fusion/fast foods, snack/ready-made and beverages. Employment of professional cooks in rest areas was low (10-30%), and the most important factor was 'taste' when cooking Korean foods. Foreigners preferred fusion/fast foods and snack/ready-made foods to Korean food, beverages and Japanese/Chinese foods, and most of the foreigners ordered food with 'no question'(55.5%) or 'some questions'(34.8%). Rest area staff prepared some photos/pictures of foods (80-100%) for menu comprehension, but the accuracy of menu transcription was very low. Customers used a rest area once or twice, stayed for 10-20 min(43.6%)/20-30 min(38.6%), visited by car(77.7%) to relax and use toilets(61.6%) on average. Favorite food and snacks were Korean(32.7%) and ready made/snacks(33.0%), and they spent 5,000-10,000 won(51.3%), 3,000-5,000 won(25.8%) on them. Customer satisfaction with rest areas was 'average' regardless of gender, age, education levels and jobs. With this analysis, we should prepare an efficient menu strategy for customer satisfaction and plans for analyzing problems along with alternatives.

The diagnosis of pattern identification in Korean Medicine depend on Korean Medicine doctor's experience and information. So, Pattern identification in Korean Medicine raise a question of objectification. This study is to standard stroke pattern identification in Korean Medicine. Weight of symptoms was given important(1points), very important(2points) by stroke specialist. So weight of symptoms is used two method. One is total sum and the other is total man. One had been compared Pattern identification between diagnosed patients by medical specialists and by applicated weight in case report form. The other had been compared Pattern identification between intersubjectivity by medical specialists and by applicated weight in case report form. It is 38%(total sum) or 40%(total man) concordance rate between diagnosed patients by medical specialists and by applicated weight in case report form. It is 82.4% concordance rate between intersubjectivity by medical specialists and by applicated weight in case report form. To acquire more concrete data on this theme, we need further and large scale of prospective researches.

In implementing transportation projects, benefits have been estimated using conventional benefit components. However, these components have a lot of assumptions and limitations for benefit estimations and thus it seems to be difficult to obtain values of parameters as well as to overlook benefits of non-market goods in calculation process. In other words, current benefit estimations are considered that can be solely measured by directly depending on traffic volumes. Existing economic analysis do not reflect the full benefits, including direct and indirect of the project implementations. To illustrate this fact, bicycle road construction can result in various functional benefits, including improved quality of life, balanced regional development, and good scenery composition. These benefits can not be explained with conventional economic analysis. The objective of this research is to estimate valuation of bicycle road construction using Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). CVM can evaluate user's direct willingness-to-pay as well as maximize bicycle utilization with balanced regional development. This research used the coastline bicycle road construction project for example. The proposed method can be well calculated or estimated benefits for non-market goods of bicycle road constructions using CVM.
