  • Objective : Subcorneal pustular dermatosis is a rare, chronic neutrophilic dermatoses that was first described in 1956. The eruption is characterized by flaccid pustules grouped in a circinate pattern on normal or erythematous skin. We treated a case of subcorneal pustular dermatosis in one patient; there have been no former reports of this disease treated by oriental medicine. We present this case because we considered it to be useful as a possible Oriental medicine treatment for subcorneal pustular dermatosis, and something that canbe used for further study of neutrophilic dermatoses. Method : We used herbal medication, acupuncture, herbal wet dressing, herbal ointment, cupping therapy and phototherapy during treatment. We assessed symptoms during treatment and also carried out blood tests through out. Result : We observed and treated a case of subcorneal pustular dermatosis patient and after treatment the patient's objective and subjective symptoms showed noticeable improvement. Conclusion : We suggest that subcorneal pustualr dermatosis can be treated by Oriental medicine therapy effectively. We expect these study results will help provide useful evidence of Oriental medicine as an effective treatment for subcorneal pustualr dermatosis.

  • Objectives : This study investigated the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Changchulgeumryeontang (CCGRT) extract. Methods : The macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells were used and MTT assay was performed to measure the cell viabilities at the various concentrations of CCGRT ($25-200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$). Nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) were measured in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Expressions of iNOS, $NF-{\kappa}B$, $IL-1{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 were also performed by real-time PCR. The anti-oxidant activities of CCGRT was measured by DPPH radical scavenging activity. Results : 1. there was no cytotoxicity in RAW264.7 cells treated with CCGRT compared to the control. 2. CCGRT treated group significantly inhibited NO and $PGE_2$ production compared to the LPS treated group. 3. CCGRT treated group significantly decreased mRNA expressions of iNOS, $NF-{\kappa}B$, $IL-1{\alpha}$, $IL-1{\beta}$ and IL-6 compared to the LPS treated group. 4. CCGTR was found to have high DPPH free radical scavenging ability. Conclusions : According to the above results, CCGRT may be a potentional choice for the treatment of inflammatory skin disease. Conclusions : According to the above results, CCGRT may be a potentional choice for the treatment of inflammatory skin disease.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the case of a bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss patient whose hearing had improved by Korean medical treatment combined with threshold sound. Methods : A woman diagnosed with bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss has treated with Korean medical interventions(acupuncture combined with electromagnetic stimulation and pharmacoacupuncture) and threshold sound conditioning(TSC) for 20 weeks. Pure tone audiometry(PTA) was performed for the evaluation. Results : The average hearing level has improved from mild to normal level. The level of tinnitus has decreased from VAS 10 to VAS 4. Conclusions : We observed an improvement in a bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss patient's hearing and hereby suggest the possibility of Korean medical treatment and TSC's ameliorating effect on sensorineural hearing loss.

  • Meniere's disease is not a life-threatening but life-altering inner ear process characterized by episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear fullness. The etiology and pathophysiology of the symptoms is still disputed. Thereby the treatment of Meniere's disease is empirical. As yet, no treatment has prospectively modified the clinical course of the condition and thereby prevented the progressive hearing loss. We experienced two cases of Meniere's disease treated with herbal medication and acupuncture. 62 year-old male and 64 year-old female patients had definite Meniere's disease. Banhabaeckchulchunma-tang was administered in both cases. After treatment Vertigo attacks were completely controlled in both, whereas Hearing level remained unchanged. Tinnitus was improved in one patient and unchanged in the other. Therefore, Banhabaeckchulchunma-tang and acupuncture could be a safe and simple therapeutic modality that is effective in controlling the vertigo ; however further studies must be done on hearing preservation and tinnitus.
