Blood group determination in dogs is an important factor in transfusion medicine to minimize immediate or delayed adverse reactions after red blood cells transfusion in small animal clinics. Dog erythrocyte antigen (DEA) 1 is the most important blood type due to its high degree of antigenicity causing acute transfusion adverse reactions. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of DEA 1 in various dog breeds in Korea. As a result of testing 592 blood samples from more than 35 dog breeds, DEA 1 blood typing for each breed showed that 57.8% of Malteses, 63.3% of Poodles, 76.2% of Mastiff-like dogs, 72.5% of Pomeranians, 47.7% of Shih Tzus, 70.3% of mixed breeds, 60.0% of Yorkshire Terriers, and 71.4% of Beagles were DEA 1-positive. Miniature Schnauzers and Jindo breeds had a significantly high prevalence (100%) of DEA 1-positive dogs compared to that in other small breed dogs. This is the first report of immunochromatography-detected DEA 1 prevalence in various domestic dog breeds. Although additional studies need clarifying the potential blood transfusion risks in domestic breed dogs with DEA 1, the results of this study may be useful when selecting a blood donor.
In order to provide a quality index of Korean folk sojues, physicochemical properties of Korean folk sojues (Andong soju, Moonbaesul, Leekangju, Jindo Hongju, Chebiwon soju, Yethyang (rice) and Yethyang (barley)), Paekrosul, Chinese kaoliangchiews (Moutaichiew, Ergoutoutiu, Chuyehchingchiew, Zhikukaoliangchiew and Paigal), Japanese Senbatanuki shochu and two whiskies were determined. The pH of sojues ($3.43{\sim}5.85$) were mainly influenced by total acidity which was described as acetic acid. The conductivities of Paekrosul and Leekangju showed relatively high value of $246\;and\;122.7{\mu}S/cm$, respectively. Korean folk sojues and Paekrosul showed maximum absorption at 274 or $278{\sim}280nm$ in the spectrometric study. We performed principal components analysis (PCA) of physicochemical properties and spectrometric data to extract representative characteristics and to compare the similarity or the dissimilarity. The PCA plot showed the distinguished cluster of Korean folk sojues comparing with Chinese kaoliangchiew or Paekrosul etc.
Four external and 27 cranial characters of three subspecies of striped field mice (Apodemus agrarius) from 15 regions in far eastern Asia(South Korea, North Korea, northeastern China, and far eastern Russia) were analyzed by multivariate methods in order to determine taxonomic status of striped field mice from North Korea. Three subgroups were recognized: a large-size form from two localities in South Korea(Cheju Island, Wando Island): a medium-size form from eight localities in South Korea and North Korea(Jindo Island, Kunsan, Mt. Chirisan, Cheongju, Mt. Weoleksan, Mt. taebaksan; Haeju, Sineuiju); a small-size form from five localities in North Korea, northeastern China, and far eastern Russia (Mt. Kumkangsan, Mt. Myohyangsan; Jirin, Yichun; Vladivostok). It is confirmed that the large-size form, the medium-size form, and the small-size form are subspecies chejuensis, coreae, and manchuricus, respectively, as noted by Koh et al.(1997). It is revealed that striped field mice(the medium-size form) from western region of North Korea (Haeju, Sineuiju) is classified into A. agrarius coreae, as noted by Thomas(1908), but striped field mice(the small-size form) from eastern region of North Korea(Mt. Kumkangsan, Mt. Myohyangsan) is A. agrarius manchuricus.
Amino acids, Na, K and glutathione (GSH) in red blood cells (RBCs) and hematological indices were examined in Korean dogs. A total of seven dogs possessing RBCs with high K and high glutathione (GSH)(HK/HG) were found in 42 Korean dogs : three from Cheju dog, two from Jindo dog and two from Korean mongrel. The RBCs in Korean HK/HG dog contained abnormally high aspartate (Asp), Glu and glutamine (Gln) the same as in HK/HG RBCs from Japanese Shiba dog. Two dogs possessing RBCs with HK and low GSH (HK/LG) were found in Cheju dog, and they accumulated Asp and Gln. Thus, not only the existence of HK dog was confirmed in Korean dogs, but HK/LG dog was also found. The Asp concentration in RBCs from seven of 33 LK dogs was more than $1000{\mu}mol/lc$, the same as in variant LK RBCs with defective Glu/Asp transport (LK/GAT), while it was less than $800{\mu}mol/lc$ in normal LK RBCs. Thus, there were variant dogs having RBCs with abnormally high amino acids accumulation among HK and LK Korean dogs.
A 15 kg 6-year-old intact male Jindo dog with a history of a respiratory distress, hindlimb paralysis with necrosed skin of dorsal digit for three weeks was referred to Animal Medical Center, Chonbuk National University. Heartworm infection was identified by kit examination. In plain thoracic radiographs, dilated pulmonary arteries reverse D sign and focal interstitial pattern was compatible with heartworm infection and possible pulmonary thromboembolism. Abdominal radiographs showed poor serosal detail indicating fluid accumulation within peritoneal cavity. No evidence of musculoskeletal abnormalities was found. Ultrasonography presented focal wedge-shaped hyperechogenecity on the both poles of left kidney, weak or absent pulse on the distal to the external iliac artery as well as ascites and irregular liver margin. Multi-organ failure was strongly supposed by blood profile including leukocytosis, anemia, hemoglobinuria bililubinemia, hypoalbuminemia, imbalance of electrolytes, and increased hepatic and renal function values. Interestingly, the glucose level is remarkably lower in pelvic limb compared to thoracic limb. Suspected pulmonary thromboembolism, renal infarction and femoral arterial embolization causing hindlimb paralysis and dermatic necrosis were confirmed by 3D reconstructed CT imaging. Prior to taking a consideration of euthanasia, interventional radiology was experimentally attempted but failed due to not recovered from general anesthesia. Early and accurate diagnosis of thromboembolism is valuable and 3D reconstructed CT images might be very useful to show the correct way to treat effectively.

In general, the power law and logarithmic profile are commonly used as flow vertical velocity profile model. However, since the parameters of profile vary with characteristics of coastal environment, it is necessary to estimate these values from measured data using regression analysis. In this paper, we estimated the power law exponent (n), friction velocity ($u^*$) and roughness length ($z_0$) of logarithmic profile by analyzing measured tidal current data that are averaged at a interval of 30 min. In the results of analysis, power law exponent (n) was estimated to be about 10.75 during flood and about 9.3 during ebb. Meanwhile, $u^*$ of logarithmic profile was estimated to be about 0.084 m/s, 0.105 m/s during flood and ebb, respectively. Also, $z_0$ was estimated to be 0.004 m and 0.006 m, respectively.
A total of 10 islands (Kumodo and Komundo in Yeosu City; Oinarodo in Goheung County; Chongsando, Soando, and Pogildo in Wando County; Chodo in Jindo County; Uido, Huksando, and Hongdo in Shinan County) were surveyed to confirm distribution of naturalized plants from June 2006 to December 2008. A total of 100 naturalized plants taxa from 25 families were recorded. The highest number of naturalized plant species (82 taxa) was recorded on Oinarodo, while the lowest number was recorded on Hongdo (42 taxa) and on Uido (34 taxa). A total of 26 naturalized species taxa (such as Dactylis glomerata, Lolium perenne, Bromus unioloides, Rumex obtusifolius, Chenopodium album, Phytolacca americana, Barbarea vulgaris, Lepidium apetalum, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Trifolium repens, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis, Senecio vulgaris, Xanthium strumarium) was recorded in all study areas. Distribution of naturalized plants were categorized into 7 habitat types based on ecological traits: afforested land, beach, port, and vacant land, road boundary, road cut and slope area, waste arable land, landfill area, and wetland. Systematic management is required to conserve unique landscape, species diversity, vegetation and ecosystem of Dadohae National Park. In order to manage the naturalized plants in Dadohae National Park, basic surveys are most needed to understand distribution and dispersal of naturalized plants communities based on ecological features of each habitat type.

Volatile components and fusel oils of sojues and mashes brewed by four different traditional methods such as Andong soju, Moonbaeju, Leekangju, Jindo-hongju were studied. Fusel oil contents of mashes were in the range of $0.09{\sim}0.32{\;}mg/ml$, but those of sojues were increased to reach the range of $0.35{\sim}0.87{\;}mg/ml$. Fusel oil contents of Moonbaeju and Andong soju were lower than those of other sojues. Among fusel oils, iso-amyl alcohol content was highest in all sojues and mashes. Thirty-three volatile components were detected in mashes and distillates which were fermented for 16 days. Among them, seven alcohols, seven esters, four aldehydes and one acid were identified. Furfural that was not found in mashes were detected in four type of sojues. Mashes had more various volatile components than sojues had. Higher content of n-hexyl alcohol, acetic acid and phenethyl alcohol were found in mashes while more iso-amyl alcohol were found in sojues.
The development of online funeral services and social issues of eco-friendly funeral culture have raised awareness of the new need for online funeral culture. There have been several attempts to revitalize online funeral services in domestic institutions and companies, but the effect is weak. The purpose of this study is to propose a design that can improve the accessibility and usability of online memorial services by analyzing the usability problem factors through a First Time User Experience analysis of the online memorial platform. Therefore, in this study, in order to identify the problem factors of the online memorial platform, a literature review on the UX, OOBE, and FTUE theories was conducted. The subject of the study was the app 'Memorial'. Before analyzing the First-Time User-Experience, IA was compared and analyzed with other similar services to understand the characteristics of the UX service of the app 'Memorial', which is the subject of the study. In addition, tasks corresponding to the Unpack-Setup/Configure-First Use stage were performed on 10 subjects who had no experience using the online memorial platform. The experimental process was expressed as the UX Curve to identify factors that caused negative experiences. As a result, the major problem factors included unnecessary UI elements, the need for sensitive personal information at the membership stage, and lack of immersion in the service. The improvements included strengthening community functions to facilitate the sharing of emotions and promote smooth communication between users. We proposed UI/UX service developments that enhanced the app by incorporating these insights. In order to verify the effectiveness, serviceability, and value of the developed prototype, an interview with a expert was conducted. The interviewes consisted of three service design experts. This study was conducted to contribute to the quality improvement and activation of the recently emerging online funeral services. The study is significant as it aims to understand the current status of these services and identify the factors necessary to improve service accessibility and usability. Subsequent studies require in-depth user verification of how much the proposed improvement plan affects the actual user experience.
In order to understand the types of vegetation in warm temperate-climate zones, vegetation was investigated in several island areas in Jeollanam-do (Jindo, Wando, Gangjin, Goheung, and Yeosu). The evaluation standard for degraded level of warm temperate forests were proposed based on the importance percentage (IP) in canopy layer of the evergreen broad-leaf forests and the number of arboreal evergreen broad-leaf species. Through these measurements, the restoration types and techniques for each degraded level were estimated, and it is intended to be used in establishing restoration plans for the southwest coast island area. The vegetation was analyzed using the two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) method using survey data of 307 plots. As a result, it was divided into 8 communities, and the appearance characteristics of evergreen broad-leaf species were identified in each community. Community I was located on the lower slope at an altitude of 86.6 m, and Neolitsea sericea and Castanopsis sieboldii were dominant. Communities II and III were the vegetation types that appear on the coast below an altitude of 10.5 to 22.5 m, and Machilus thunbergii, Cinnamomum japonicum, N. sericea, and C. sieboldii were dominant. Communities IV and V were vegetation types that appeared in the lower and middle slops between the altitudes of 71.9 to 153.4m, and C. sieboldii was dominant. In community VI, the N. sericea was dominant in the lower and middle slops at an altitude of 166.9 m. The last communities VII and VIII were the vegetation types that appeared on the middle slop at an altitude of 187.8 to 246.2 m. Also, Quercus acuta and Q. salicina were present. In summary, the evergreen broad-leaf forests dominated by M. thunbergii, C. japonicum, and N. sericea appeared mainly in the coastal areas of the lowlands. The community of C. sieboldii was distributed higher inland than this community. The communities that appeared mainly in the inland highlands at levels above these two communities were Q. acuta and Q. salicina. The degraded level was classified as 0 to V, according to the IP of arboreal evergreen broad-leaf species and the number of arboreal evergreen broad-leaf species. According to the degraded level, the restoration types (preservation, induction, improvement, creation) and the restoration techniques were determined.
