Flow Analysis on the Outside of Automotive Body (차체 외부에서의 유동해석)

  • The air resistance about automotive body is studied by the flow analysis in this study. Maximum air flow velocity is shown with 28 to 30 m/s on the upper roof of automotive body. The air flow becomes most regular at automotive body model 3 but the model of 2 or 3 becomes irregular in comparison with the model 1. The maximum air resistance pressure is shown with 413 to 420 Pa at the front bumper of automotive body. The flow velocity at inlet or middle plane of automotive body is shown as the contour same with the model of 1, 2, or 3. But the velocity at outlet plane at model 1 is shown as the contour different with the model of 2 or 3.

Study on Non-uniform Thermal Comfort in Hybrid Air-Conditioning System with CFD Analysis (CFD 해석을 통한 하이브리드 공조시스템의 인체 온열감의 불균일성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, hybrid air-conditioning system has been proposed and applied to achieve building energy saving. One example is a system combining radiation panel with natural wind-induced cross-ventilation. However, few research works have been conducted on the non-uniformity of thermal comfort in such hybrid air-conditioning system. In this paper, both thermal environment and non-uniform thermal comfort of human thermal model under various air-conditioning system, including hybrid system, were evaluated in a typical office room using coupled simulation of computation fluid dynamics, radiation model and a human thermal model. The non-uniformity of thermal comfort was evaluated from the deviation of surface temperature of human thermal model. Flow fields and temperature distribution in each case were represented.

Distributed Air Defense Simulation Model and its Applications (방공교전모델(DADSim) 개발 및 활용사례)

  • In this paper, air-defense simulation model, called "DADSim", will be introduced. DADSim(Distributed Air Defense Simulation Model) was developed by Modeling&Simulation Lab of K.N.D.U.(Korea National Defence Univ) Weapon Systems Department. This model is an analysis-purpose model in the engagement-level. DADSim can simulate not only the global air-defense or Korean Peninsula but also the local air-defense or a battle field. DADSim uses the DTED(digital terrain elevation data) LeveII it for the representation of peninsula terrain characteristics. The weapon systems cooperated in the model are low/medium-range missile systems such as HAWK, NIKE, SAM. DADSim was designed in the way of object-oriented development method, implemented by C++ language. The simulation view is an event-sequenced object-orientation. For the convenience of input, output analysis, GUI(Graphic User Interface) of menu, window, dialog box, etc. are provided to the user, For the execution of DADSim, Silicon Graphic IRIX 6.3 or high version is required. DADSim can be used for the effectiveness analysis of­defence systems. Some illustrative examples will be shown in this paper.

Estimation of the Effective Region of Sea/Land Breeze in West Coast Using Numerical Modeling (수치모델링을 이용한 서해안 지역에서의 해륙풍 영향권 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The regional air movement in a coastal area is generated by the different heat capacities of sea and land sides, which is called sea/land breeze. In the west coast area, the local air quality is significantly influenced by this sea/land breeze. In this study, the mathematical model is proposed to estimate the effective area of sea/land breeze. A commercial air model, that is suggested as an alternative air model by USEPA, is introduced to simulate the mechanism of sea/land breeze generation. From this study, it is confirmed that the numerical approach proposed in this study is reliable to predict the effective area of sea breeze in a coastal area. It implies that the current application of common air model needs to be carefully reviewed especially when dealing with a coastal air quality issue. It is also found that the sea breeze in Incheon area has the impact in the range of approximately 24 km in-land side, so-called penetration length.

  • In an EMS (Electromagnetic suspension)-type Maglev (Magnetically-levitated) vehicle, the flexibility of the bogie frame may affect the acceleration of the electromagnet that is input into the control system, which could lead to instability in some cases. For this reason, it is desirable to consider bogie frame flexibility in air gap simulations, for the optimization of bogie structure. The objective of this paper is to develop a flexible multibody dynamic model of 1/2 of an EMS-type Maglev vehicle that is under testing, and to compare the air gap responses obtained from the rigid and the flexible body model. The feedback control system and electromagnet models that are unique to the EMS-type maglev vehicle must be included in the model. With this model, dynamics simulations are carried out to predict the air gap responses from the two models, of the rigid and flexible model, and the air gaps are compared. Such a comparative study could be useful in the prediction of the air gap in the design stage, and in designing an air gap control system.

  • In this study, a discrete-event simulation model is developed to estimate load factors and the corresponding revenues under different pricing and dispatching policies. The model has been employed to forecast the inbound and the outbound air cargo demands of the major Northeastern Chinese cities, and the simulation results were compared to the actual demands obtained from real-life airline operations. The statistical analysis confirms that the simulation model is able to provide accurate estimates for air cargo demands, and thus, the model may be employed to be a useful tool for air cargo demand management.

  • In this study, the scenario for a numerical modeling of the fine grid scale air dispersion phenomena was proposed and an analysis of the special event which was occurred on September 3, 2002 was performed using by a coarse grid prognostic meteorological model, a fine grid diagnostic meteorological model and a fine grid air dispersion model. Based on the results, we found that the local circulations, like as land-sea breeze, should be seriously considered for evaluating the high PM10 concentration event and for making the reduction policy of the major air pollutant emissions in Ansan area.

  • The application of local air circulation models in the field of air pollution research has become more and more popular with increasing demands of detailed wind data for obtaining precise information on spatial and temporal variations. However the prediction of air circulation near the surface is generally not a simple task because of intricate interactions between surface and air. Particularly in Korea, many areas are mountainous with a complicated shoreline. Because considerable errors could be introduced into the model predictions, it is necessary to confirm their feasibility by comparing model predictions with observations. In this paper, the results from the evaluation of model predictions in selected publications in Korea as well as their procedures were reviewed. Various aspects of errors in the model predictions. such as possible sources, vulnerable conditions, and reduction methods, were discussed.

Numerical Simulation of Flow Field and Air Pollutatnts Concentration in Kwangyang Bay (광양만권의 유동장 및 대기오염농도예측)

  • Numerical simulation model using nesting method and considering topographic features was developed to predict atmospheric environments atmospheric flow temperature and diffusion of air pollutants in Kwangyang bay where having complex areas of point sources Korea. In addition developed simulation model was used tracing of spreading range of pollutants when a gas leaks suddenly from Yeo-cheon industrial complex. by comparing the measured and calculated data on atmospheric flow temperature and diffusion of air pollutants the results showed that this model can be well applied and complicated topography affected the diffusion of air pollutants.

A Geothermal Model of Pit Area Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD를 이용한 피트의 지중열 모델 구축에 관한 연구)

  • This research has established CFD model on pit's cool-tube system through heat and air movement simulations, of which data was based on experimental and verification. This research work verified the effectiveness of the cool-tube system by analysing temperature, humidity and air current of the actually installed case. Also, we analysed heat transfer through air current simulation and the results are as followings. Firstly, we experiment on temperature, humidity and speed of air currents of the cool tube system with pit space during the month of May (spring). The average exterior temperature was $16.1^{\circ}C$, and $18.2^{\circ}C$ for the pit, $24.7^{\circ}C$ for the compressor room. Secondly, based on measured data of real case, we have analysed heat transfer through air current simulation and verified our proposed model. The actual measurement of average temperature of exhaust air of the pit's area is $19.7^{\circ}C$ with tolerance of $-0.33^{\circ}C{\sim}-0.6^{\circ}C$ compared to above simulations. Thirdly, having verified air current simulation model with formation of 260,000 and 1,000,000 cells, we could get reasonable near values with 260,000 cells. Lastly, the next step of research would be focused on proposing the best possible pit's cool-tube system after analysis of heat transfer of the air current simulation based on verified CFD model.
