Using superplasticizer or the methods of autoclave curing is the most typical and practical of the ways to make high strength concrete. In this study the high strength concrete piles by way of centrifugal forming and hand compacting, are put to the freezing and thawing test after the process of autoclave curing, water curing after steam curing, or stand water curing. And the relation of such piles to durability, the rate of strength decrease, and the rate of weight variation is shown. The durability of those test piles throughout freezing and thawing test proves to be comparatively sufficient in the above-mentioned curings when the piles contain a proper quantity of air. But it is also acknowledged that without A.E agent, the high strength concrete piles of autoclave curing is higher than those of the other curing in strength, but lower in modulus of dynamic elasticity and their durability factor after the test is much lower.

In this study, the Warm-Mix Asphalt was prepared using a modified Sulfur Binder mixed with an additive of a polymer component in sulfur, which is an industrial by-product generated in the crude oil refining process. The dynamic stability and durability characteristics of the prepared Warm-Mix Asphalt was evaluated by the indirect tensile strength, the tensile strength ratio before and after water immersion and freezing-thawing, and the dynamic stability by wheel tracking test. The Warm-Mix Asphalt Mixtures using Modified Sulfur Binder has a tensile strength ratio before and after water immersion of 0.88, which is about 1.13 times that of the Warm-Mix formed modified Asphalt, and the tensile strength ration before and after freezing-thawing is also 0.82, thus, all tensile strength ratios satisfied the KS quality standard value of 0.75 or more. The indirect tensile strength was 1.6MPa which was twice the KS quality standard value of 0.8MPa, and about 1.24 times higher than that of normal heated asphalt 1.29MPa. In addition, the dynamic stability by the wheel tracking test was 14,075 times/mm, which was about 15 times higher than that of normal heated asphalt and about 3 times higher than that of the Warm-Mix formed modified Asphalt, showing excellent resistance to plastic deformation such as fatigue cracks.
The boar sperm has more lipid droplets and specialty of seminal plasma compared with other species, causing difficulties of freezing sperm and decreases for the utilization of frozen semen into the artificial insemination. However, several studies reported significant results for the recovery of sperm motility and reproductive by addition of cryoprotectants and seminal plasma after thawing. This study was designed to investigate the effects of supplementation of trehalose or glycerol in the LEY (lactose and egg yolk in BTS) solution for the conventional freezing and vitrification process. Two boars aged 16 months were used to collect semen for 2 times in a week. The samples were allotted to 3 freezing solutions (LEY + glycerol 10.5% + OEP 1.5%, LEY + trehalose 1M + OEP 1.5%, and sucrose 1.5M + trehalose 1 M + OEP 1.5%) after centrifugation at 800 g for 10 minutes. Semen was equilibrated in freezing solutions for 10 minutes and injected into plastic straws with 2~3 air bubbles to minimize freezing damages. Vitrification was performed to locate sperm in 5 cm above $LN_2$ for 5 minutes, and the conventional freezing was conducted with an automatic freezer. Motility and survival rates were measured by CASA (Computer assisted sperm an alyzing system) and FITC (Fluorescein isothiocyanate), respectively after thawing semen at $50^{\circ}C$ for 12 seconds. The results were analyzed by ANOVA with STATVIEW statistical program. The vitrificatioin solution (LEY + 10.5% glycerol + 1.5% OEP) presented higher motility (20.9%) than other solutions while the solution (LEY + 1M trehalose + 1.5% OEP) showed the lowest (motility : 5.2%). However, survival rates of vitrified sperms detected by FITC showed 1~4% live sperms in almost of dead sperms at all vitrification solutions' groups, but survival rate of freezing solution of LEY + 1M trehalose + 1.5% OEP LEY and LEY + 10.5% glycerol + 1.5% OEP were showed 49%, and 79%, respectively. There were differences (P<0.05) survival rate of conventional freezing in LEY + 10.5% glycerol + 1.5% OEP and LEY + 1M trehalose + 1.5% OEP and the remaining showed no differences. The results suggested that vitrified boar semen was not enough to be utilized for the artificial insemination, but it showed possibility to utilize for ICSI and conventional freezing with glycerol would be useful method for artificial insemination in pig while we choose the outstanding semen against tolerance to freezing damages.

Using the relatively low-cost, far-infrared dryer inhibiting the destruction of a variety of physiologically active components of the mulberry fruit, we have studied to make semidry mulberry fruit that can be kept at room temperature for a long time. By adjusting the temperature of the far-infrared dryer step-by-step, we developed a semi-dry method of maintaining the shape of the mulberry fruit. In addition, by drying the coating of honey after removing the juice generated by the mulberry fruit thawing process improved the acceptability of the taste of fruit. We conducted heat treatment mulberry fruit into a $95^{\circ}C$ infrared dryer 5 hours to thaw the frozen mulberry fruit. After 10 to 20% of honey coating, the primary drying ($95^{\circ}C$, 5 hours) was implemented. then, the secondary drying was conducted after controlling the temperature of the far infrared dryer $60^{\circ}C$, for 10 hours. These manufacture process was able to obtain semi-dried mulberry fruit. Dry weight ratio and moisture content were around 25%, and around 16% level respectively. It was to enable long-term storage at room temperature. Therefore, it is suggested that the method of using the far-infrared drying machine to manufacture semi-dried mulberry fruit can be a way to improve the farm income if applied to the farm.

This study is a fundamental research for developing self-deicing function of snow-melting asphalt concrete for roadway pavement. The objective of this study is to develop technology of making self-snow-melting asphalt pavement and evaluate properties of the asphalt concrete containing deicers. Asphalt concrete with deicers and CRM was produced by dry process. The $\alpha$-deicer, CRM and F-deicer were used for sand asphalt mixtures of thin-layer pavement on the existing pavement. The $\alpha$-deicer, $\beta$-deicer, CRM A, CRM B and C were used for 13mm dense-graded mixtures on surface course. Penetration grade of 60-80 asphalt was used for asphalt mixtures. Marshall mix-design, indirect tensile strength, freezing and thawing test, analysis of extracted water were carried out to evaluate performance of self deicing function of asphalt mixtures. The study result showed that snow-melting asphalt mixtures had not only good mechanical characteristics and good snow-melting function, but also chemically safe in environmental point of view.
The frost heave process from repeated freezing and thawing actions in winter on forest road cut-slopes is important for forest road maintenance and management. This study investigated the damages of the forest heave process on forest road cut-slopes by measuring the changes in the road-cut surface elevation and sediment production and by conducting vegetation surveys which were aimed at providing information for forest road maintenance plans. The temperature and humidity differences were determined between the north and south cut-slopes. T-test showed that the north slope had a lower temperature and humidity than that of the south slope. Field observations also confirmed frozen soils on the north slopes, indicating that the north slopes are susceptible to frost heave. Sediment was converted to dry weight per unit area ($g/m^2$). T-test showed that the north slope produced more sediment than that of the south slope. The study confirmed that more frost heave occurred on the north cut-slopes than on the south cut-slopes. Vegetation surveys were conducted on five cut-slope plots. Considering the dominant species found above the cut-slopes, vegetations in all the plots are expected to succeed to pine and oak in the future. The dominant species appearing on the cut-slopes of the study area were exotic species because the elapsed time of the site was only 2 - 4 years.
Current artificial heart valves have several disadvantages, such as thromboembolism, limited durability, infection, and inability to grow. The solution to these problems would be to develop a tissue-engineered heart valves containing autologous cells. The aim of this study was to optimize the protocol to obtain a porcine acellular matrix and seed goat autologous endothelial cells on it, and to evaluate the biological responses of xenograft and xeno-autograft heart valves in goats. Material and Method: Fresh porcine pulmonic valves were treated with one method among 3 representative decellularization protocols (Triton-X, freeze-thawing, and NaCl-SDS). Goat venous endothelial cells were isolated and seeded onto the acellularized xenograft leaflets. Microscopic examinations were done to select the most effective method of decellularizing xenogeneic cells and seeding autologous endothelial cells. Two pulmonic valve leaflets of. 6 goats were replaced by acellularized porcine leaflets with or without seeding autologous endothelial cells while on cardiopulmonary bypass. Goats were sacrificed electively at 6 hours, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6. months after operation. Morphologic examinations were done to see the biological responses of replaced valve leaflets. Result: The microscopic examinations showed that porcine cells were almost completely removed in the leaflets treated with NaCl-SDS. The seeded endothelial cells were more evenly preserved in NaCl-SDS treatment. All 6 goats survived the operation without complications. The xeno- autografts and xenografts showed the appearance, the remodeling process, and the cellular functions of myofibroblasts, 1 day, 1 month, and 3 months after operation, respectively. They were compatible with the native pulmonary leaflet (control group) except for the increased cellularity at 6 months. The xenografts revealed the new endothelial cell lining at that time. Conclusion: Treatment with NaCl-SDS was most effective in obtaining decellularized xenografts and facilitate seeding autologous endothelial cells. The xenografts and xeno-autografts were repopulated with myofibroblasts and endothelial cells in situ serially. Both of grafts served as a matrix for a tissue engineered heart valve and developed into autologous tissue for 6 months.

Two experiments were designed to evaluate the effects of the amino acids glycine and cysteine on cryopreservation of ram spermatozoa. After primary evaluation of collected ejaculates, the semen samples were pooled and diluted 1:4 before cooling (experiment 1) and freezing (experiment 2) with Tris-Citrate-Fructose-Yolk (TCFY) extender supplemented with different concentrations of glycine and cysteine (5, 10, 15 and 20 mM). As the control, semen was diluted and frozen in the extender without amino acids. Motility, viability and membrane integrity were assessed as the parameters for semen quality in the first experiment. In the second experiment, motility, progressive motility, viability, membranes and acrosome integrity were evaluated after the freezing-thawing process. The results of the first experiment indicated that the addition of 10 and 15 mM cysteine compared to the control (basic) extender significantly increased (p<0.01) the motility, viability and membrane integrity of spermatozoa after cooling. However, further increasing these amino acids up to 20 mM had a significant negative effect (p<0.05). Our results showed no significant differences (p>0.05) between 5 mM glycine compared to 5 mM cysteine and between 20 mM glycine and 20 mM cysteine. The results of experiment 2 showed that the amino acids significantly improved post-thaw motility, progressive motility, viability, membranes and acrosome integrity of ram spermatozoa. These positive effects were observed at concentrations between 5 to 15 mM of glycine and cysteine, with the best results at 15 mM. Further increasing of amino acid concentrations significantly decreased the post-thaw characteristics of spermatozoa, but the results showed that cysteine was better than glycine and control extenders. The data indicated that addition of glycine or cysteine to the freezing extender can be recommended for cryopreservation of ram spermatozoa. However, further studies are still needed to determine the effect of such addition on fertility in farm animals.
We evaluated the effects of green tea extract (GTE) supplementation at different dilution steps on boar sperm freezing and in vitro fertilization. Sperm intracellular hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), motility, viability, acrosome integrity and morphology were determined. In addition, sperm IVF parameters (penetration and monospermy) and glutathione (GSH) levels of presumptive zygotes (PZs) were evaluated. Semen was diluted in lactose egg yolk (LEY) and cooled at $5^{\circ}C$ for 3 h (first dilution step) and then diluted in LEY with 9% glycerol and maintained at $5^{\circ}C$ for 30 min (second dilution step). Four experimental groups were compared: first and second dilution steps without GTE (control), first dilution step with GTE (Step 1), second dilution step with GTE (Step 2) and first and second dilution step with GTE (Step 1+2). The spermatozoa were frozen in nitrogen vapor. Higher sperm motility, viability and acrosome integrity after thawing were observed in Step 1, Step 2 and Step 1+2 groups compared with the control (P < 0.05). Lower $H_2O_2$ level was observed in Step 1+2 compared with control and Step 1 (P < 0.05). For IVF, matured oocytes were co-cultured with spermatozoa frozen according to the experimental groups. GSH levels of PZs were significantly higher in Step 2 and Step 1+2 than in control and Step 1 (P < 0.05) without a significant difference in IVF parameters. In conclusion, supplementation with GTE in both first and second dilution steps during the freezing process resulted in better boar sperm cryopreservation and might be beneficial for further embryo development.
The weathering characteristics of periodically submerged sedimentary rocks in the Sayeon dam, Ulsan was examined by field work, electron probe micro-analysis, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Analysis of fracture zone and exfoliation showed the submerged sedimentary rocks have undergone severe mechanical weathering. Mechanical weathering in the water-rock interface accelerated chemical weathering, such as dissolution and alteration of the most of minerals except for quartz in the weathering zone. The dissolution of carbonates specially calcite, is remarkable creating the cavities, whereas formation of minerals including clay minerals is not active. The sedimentary rocks have been periodically submerged for a certain period of time, and have repeated freezing and thawing. This mechanical weathering favored infiltration, which accelerated mineral dissolution. The high content of easily soluble carbonate of the sedimentary rocks is likely the major cause of intense chemical weathering. The dissolved elements within the infiltrated water interrupted the occurrence of clay and weathering minerals, and expend fractures by infiltrated water accelerated weathering process.
