  • This paper analyzes the dynamics and nature of regional business cycle synchronization for East Asian countries in the period of 2000:Q1-2011:Q4. Estimating a dynamic two-factor model extracts the common factor and the nation-specific factor from both the macroeconomic aggregates and plausible driving forces of regional business cycles. Evidence for regional business cycle synchronization is particularly strong for Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines, while Japan shows weak evidence of regional synchronization. On the other hand, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and China are decoupling from regional business cycles. The driver of monetary aggregate is the most significant determinant of regional fluctuations of macroeconomic aggregates, whereas oil price and productivity are on average important driving forces of nation-specific fluctuations of real economic activities.

  • This retrospection of elementary science education is very carefully and only my opinions during about 40 years in my life. They are a few articles as follow, 1. My body put into science education about 30 years ago, and started college life at that time. 2. The author participated the SCIS programs from the Unites States. 3. He participated in the development of elementary science textbooks (units on earth science parts and photographs), observation note-books, and teachers guides from third period (1973) to sixth (2000), and also middle school textbooks in 1976. 4. He participated in the setup of science education center in Chenogju National University 1976, and science gift education center 1998. 5. He was the member of earth science Part in observation group to visit south Asia (Japan, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand on 1-28 August, 1977. 6. • This paper proposes a Mamdani fuzzy PID controller for controlling a process with small dead time. The controller composes of a parallel structure of fuzzy PI controller and fuzzy PD controller. Each controller has two inputs, error and change of error. Hence, the control signal of the proposed controller is the average value of the output of the fuzzy PI and PD controllers. The Mamdani fuzzy PID controller is easily to be adjusted to meet the desired control system performances both in transient state and steady state. The simulation results of the proposed Mamdani fuzzy PID controller by using the same parameters (proportional gain, integral time and derivative time) as the conventional PID controller are shown. The response of the Mamdani fuzzy PID control system is faster than the conventional PID control system. Both system responses have ...

  • Cysticercosis and sparganosis are not uncommon parasitic infections in the developing world. Central nervous system infection by both cestodes can present with neurological signs and symptoms, such as seizure and mass effect, including brain hernia. Early detection and accurate diagnosis can prevent a fatal outcome. Histological examinations of brain tissues can confirm the diagnosis of cerebral cysticercosis, which differs from sparganosis by the presence of a cavitated body. We report here a case of cerebral cysticercosis which has the similar clinical and imaging findings as sparganosis.

  • Background: Prostate cancer is a major concern of public health. Microvascular density (MVD) is one of the prognostic markers for various solid cancers. Matrix metalloproteinase 11 (MMP11) plays an important role in angiogenesis and changes in its expression level are known to be associated with tumor progression and clinical outcome. Aim: To investigate the relationship between MVD and MMP11 expression in prostatic adenocarcinoma tissues. Materials and Methods: The expression levels of MMP11 and MVD were analyzed immunohistochemically for 50 specimens of prostatic adenocarcinoma. Results: MMP11 was mainly expressed in stromal cells but rarely seen in epithelial cells. Mean MVD was $36/mm^2$, and it was correlated significantly only with bone metastases. MVD was also significantly correlated with MMP11 expression (r=0.29, p=0.044). Conclusions: MMP11 may alter the stromal microenvironment of prostate cancer to stimulate tumor angiogenesis.

  • This paper discusses the potential to upgrade the Thai innovation system by university-industry linkages. Our results are structured into three parts. First, the identification of potentials for university-industry linkages (UIL) within the Thai innovation system shows that the re is a wide gap between absorptive capacities of private companies and knowledge production of universities. Second, we present survey results for individual departments at Thai universities showing that UIL are mostly limited to consulting and technical services, hampered by mutual distrust, and maintained to receive an extra personal income. Third, case studies on four typical modes of UIL allow us to discuss various ways to upgrade the Thai IS by UIL in future.

  • This paper is a proposal of Sentinel Asia for Environment (SAFE). The essential to this project is to help environmental agencies in Asia to set up an environmental monitoring system with satellite observation data. It is focused on an environmental issues originated from anthropogenic events detected as land cover and land use change in Asians' daily human life including; agriculture, global warming gas, urban environment and forest resources. It is leaded by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) along with University of Tokyo and Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand under the umbrella of Sentinel Asia which is dedicated to disaster monitoring issues. It is expected to initiate a information outgoing through WWW for Asian countries to set up their national land information system focusing on environmental changes.

  • By examining the relationship between private credit growth and the possibility of credit risk while focusing on international capital in 21 countries over the period 2000:1Q-2015:2Q, this paper shows that the impact of private credit growth on credit risk is apparent under the high ratio of capital inflows, and its impact on credit risk in the seven Asian countries is even stronger. And the possibility of credit risk caused by private credit is mainly coming from portfolio inflows rather than direct inflows. Finally, portfolio inflows strengthen the positive relationship between credit excess and credit risk in Asian countries, and this trend is seen more in these after the global financial crisis. Taken together, the stronger positive relationship between credit excess and credit risk can be strengthen under the massive portfolio inflows in particular in the seven Asian countries such as Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

  • This study aims to make detail examination of smallholder dairy farming systems in the Nongpho Dairy Cooperative. Forty-three dairy farms were selected from three geographical areas i.e. irrigated area, municipality area, and factory area. Within each area some number of sample farms were selected from each of the three levels of farm and animal crowdedness (very crowded, crowded, and not crowded farms). Detail data were collected during 1996 to 1997, they were socio-economic conditions of the sample farms and farmers, dairy production systems and management of resources (animals, bam, feeds, stocking rates, herd structure, animal body conditions, milk yield and milk quality, manure and farm wastes management, and other related items). Detail information useful for the improvement of farm production efficiency were discussed. It was very clear that much improvement of smallholder dairy production can be achieved if the recommendations given by this study were implemented.
