  • Silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resins (Asahi Guard AG-7005 and AG-E061) were washed and subsequently heat treated varying the washing cycles and the temperature. After the processing, the water and oil repellencies, and contact angle to water were evaluated. The water and oil repellencies decreased by the washing and recovered by following heat treatment. Also ESCA measurement was carried out to investigate the surface chemical composition of the treated fiber. The $F_1s$ intensity of the treated fabric decreased by the washing and recovered by the subsequent heat treatment. On the other hand, the $O_1s$ intensity increased by the washing and decreased by following heat treatment. From the results, it is clear that change of the water and oil repellencies of the silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resin occurred by the washing and subsequent heat treatment. Considering a change of the water repellency of the silk fabric treated with fluorocarbon resin, it seems likely that the fluoroalkyl group of the fluorocarbon resin rotates from surface to inside of the fiber by the washing to adapt to the hydrophilic circumstance, and the orientation of the fluoroalkyl groups of the resin disturbed by the washing recovers the orientation to the fiber surface after the subsequent heat treatment.

  • In order to improve dyeing and finishing technology of thin cloth of microfiber(super-fine fiber), the degrees of deep dyeing method, the light fastness, and the washing fastness were investiagted. 1. The thin cloth made of microfiber, $0.15^d\~0.2^d$, was conjugated type and the dyeing degree was lower at 5 to $10\%$ than that of cloth made of common fiber. The cloth of excellent dyeing fastness, light fastness, was developed by increasing the concentration of dye of high quality up to $5\~10\%$. 2. Because refractory rate of microfiber of $0.2^d$ was lower than that of $0.01^d$, the surface refractory rate of $0.2^d$ was lower than that of $0.01^d$ fiber. Therefore the surface of micro-fiber, $0.2^d$, was more rougher than that of $0.01^d$ and it belongs to separate type. 3. The higher degree of dyeing was increased by using dye of microparticle. Also the degree of textile printing was increased by adding urea solution ($20\%$) and glycerine diethylene glycol. 4. Light fastness was very excellent, marked 5 grade. However, washing fastness was 2$\~$3 grade. After dyeing, we could improve to 4 grade, through hot water washing including some organic chlorine solvent. 5. Super microfiber of $0.01^d$ will not be dyed by present dye and dyeing equipment, because right reflection light rate(white light) of fiber surface was too high and the more refraction rate higher the more surface refraction rate will be increased.

  • Generally, polyester microfiber has much greater dye uptake than that of regular ones. In spite of high dye up-take visual shade depth of dyed fabric decreases with smaller denier, which results in poor washing fastness of dyed fabric. In this study, in order to investigate the washing fastness, polyester microfiber fabric was dyed by using two type of disperse dyes and treated with 3 different reduction clearing methods. The reduction clearing methods in this study are normal alkaline reduction clearing, $N_2$ gas replacement method, and ultrasonic treatment during reduction clearing. The results were as followings ; The most important factors affecting the washing fastness of polyester artificial suede fabric were found to be the reduction clearing method, the chemical structure of used disperse dyes and the structure and denier of fibers. It was also obtained that the heat treatment of dyed fabric decreased the washing fastness due to the dye migration from inner phase to surface.

  • In this study, C.I. Disperse Red 60 (DR60), C.I. Disperse Yellow 54 (DY54) dyes were used to investigate the washing fastness characteristics of PET fibers according to supercritical CO2 and aqueous dyeing process. The changes in K/S values and L⁎ values before and after washing of dyed PET fibers were observed according to the KS K ISO 105 washing fastness measurement method. In addition, it was confirmed by changing the ΔE⁎ and ΔL⁎ values of control PET fibers. Overall, it was confirmed that both the supercritical CO2 and aqueous dyeing process had excellent washing fastness ratings of 4-5 for DR60 and DY54 dyes. Comparatively, the K/S and L⁎ values for before and after washing of PET fibers with supercritical CO2 dyeing process was higher than that of the aqueous dyeing process and the ΔE⁎ and ΔL⁎ values of the control PET fibers were low. From the results, we observed that the supercritical CO2 dyeing process of PET fibers has better washing fastness characteristics than the aqueous dyeing process.

  • IEC 60456 declared the cocoa soiled cloth to be one of the standard soiled test cloths for measuring the performance of the clothes washing machines. Researchers for textile washing have known that cocoa soiled cloth has shown unpredictable washing performance. The color of cocoa mainly comes from flavonoids, and flavonoids reversibly change color with alkalinity from pH 1 to pH 7 as food colorants. The color change of flavonoids under various washing conditions, in the alkali solution, has not yet been confirmed. In this study, we have investigated the color change and the soil removal of the cocoa soiled cloth which were washed with alkaline washing liquids of various hardnesses. The cocoa soiled cloth which was washed in the water which was 60ppm or higher became darker than the soiled cloth. When the cloth was washed in the detergent solution, the cloth was slightly darker only when the washing condition was $20^{\circ}$ and 250ppm. As the water hardness increased, the soil removal decreased and the higher washing temperature was more effective.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine improvements in dye uptake, expression of various colors, and color fastness when washed or exposed to light. We examined these improvements by doing the combination dyeing of Juniperus chinensis heartwood and Alnus japonica heartwood extracts. In this study, two combination dyeing methods were used. One-bath dyeing involves combining Juniperus chinensis heartwood extract and Alnus japonica heartwood extract. Two-bath dyeing involves dyeing by sequence, which means that we dyed the Juniperus chinensis heartwood extract first and then dyed Alnus japonica heartwood extract sequentially (or in the opposite order). In terms of improving dye uptake, two-bath dyeing was more effective than one-bath dyeing. For cotton, dyeing Juniperus chinensis heartwood extract first and then dyeing Alnus japonica heartwood extract sequentially showed higher dye uptake in the two-bath method, while for silk, there wasn't much difference in the dyeing order. Through combination dyeing, red-violet color from Juniperus chinensis heartwood and brown color from Alnus japonica heartwood made various Y, YR, R series of color as a result. Moreover, combination dyeing improved fabric's fastness when washed or exposed to light. In the case of cotton, fabric dyed using two-bath dyeing, with Juniperus chinensis heartwood extract being the first dye, showed improvement in fastness to washing and light. And in the case of silk, fastness to washing and light improved regardless of dyeing order in two-bath dyeing.

  • This study aim is to provide new coloration method by laccase-catalyzation on natural phenolic dyeing process. In this study, silk was dyed with black tea, which is one of polyphenolic dye, extracted in distilled water. The dyed samples were catalyzed by laccase as the eco-friendly mordanting process. To optimize the conditions of laccase-catalyzed coloration, conditions were varied by different mordanting methods (one-bath, two-bath), temperature and treatment time. The dye affinity in terms of the value of K/S, $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, and H, V, C was measured by Computer Color Matching System (CCM, CM-2600d, Spectra Magic NX, Korea). The effect of laccase-catalyzed coloration on washing fastness was evaluated and compared with the synthetic mordant (Al, Cu, and Fe). As the result of color analysis of dyed silk, the optimum conditions of laccase-catalyzed coloration were determined to post-mordanting by one-bath at $50^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. Under the optimum laccase-catalyzed conditions, the dyed silk was shown the color of yellowish-red. After laccase-catalyzed coloration on the dyed silk, the improvement of washing fastness was obtained compared with mordanted silk by synthetic mordant (Al, Cu, and Fe). Therefore, the present study was demonstrated that the effective enzymatic mordanting method by laccase for phenolic natural dyeing with vivid color and good fastness.
