Exploring the Applicability of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning for Smart Pad Based Learning with a Focus on Principles of Multimedia and Individual Differences (스마트 패드 기반 학습 프로그램에서 멀티미디어 학습에 관한 인지이론적 원리의 적용가능성 탐색: 멀티미디어 원리와 개인차 원리를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the cognitive theory of Multimedia learning in a Smart Pad environment. Specifically, the viability of the multimedia principle and individual difference principle was tested for this study. To accomplish this, participants were divided into two groups based on their prior knowledge level (high/low), and members of each group were given one of two Smart Pad based programs, one text-based and the other text and image based. Results indicate that the use of images and the interaction between image use and prior knowledge did not have a significant effect on cognitive load levels. However, there were significant effects on learning achievement. This study implies that when developing Smart Pad based learning content, the small screen size compared to PC monitors, types and functions of images, and learning objectives should be considered.

Contents Development of IrobiQ on School Violence Prevention Program for Young Children (지능형 로봇 아이로비큐(IrobiQ)를 활용한 학교폭력 예방 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a school violence prevention program "Modujikimi" for young children to be embedded in IrobiQ, the teacher assistive robot. The themes of this program consisted of basic character education, bullying prevention education and sexual violence prevention education. The activity types included large group, individual and small group activities, free choice activities, and finally parents' education, which included poems, fairy tales, music, art, sharing stories. Finally, the multi modal functions of the robot were employed: image on the screen, TTS (Text To Speech), touch function, recognition of sound and recording system. The robot content was demonstrated to thirty early childhood educators whose acceptability of the content was measured using questionnaires. And also the content was applied to children in daycare center. As a result, majority of them responded positively in acceptability. The results of this study suggest that the further research is needed to improve two-way interactivity of teacher assistive robot.

  • In this paper, the Solar Inverter will be monitored by using the AJAX(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML). AJAX is the one of the technologies that can make the RIA(Rich Internet Application) with DHTML(Dynamic Hyper Text Makeup Language) and other java script technology. By using this, a strong application program that is comparable to the general application program can be made. With an existing data-processing technique, the request and response of data can't be processed dynamically on the same page. However, real-time monitoring of data and operation statuses can be confirmed by using the AJAX an asynchronous method of communication. Also without changing the page, the amount of data transmission used the AJAX with significantly small amounts of data to build a Solar Inverter monitoring system that is able to efficiently handle management and monitoring, operating all functions within one page.

The Achievements and Problems of Computerization of Korean Medical Classics, Donguibogam - Focusing on the mobile Application 'The Donguibogam in My Hand' - (동의보감 전산화 성과와 한의학 고문헌 전산화의 과제 - 모바일 어플리케이션 '내손안에 동의보감'을 중심으로 -)

  • Objectives : The Dongui Bogam in My Hand', which is an output of computerizing Donguibogam (Principles and Practice of Eastern Medicine), is an interim outcome of the research project led by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. This study examined the process in which Donguibogam, a record in Chinese and a classic of Oriental medicine, expanded into a modern content. Methods : This study will classify the modernization of Donguibogam into three 'contents' that form Donguibogam, 'container' that will hold the contents, and 'community' that is the consumer of Donguibogam. Towards the end, this study will sketch out the status of computerizing Chinese records in Korea, and point out the reality faced by computerization of ancient documents on Oriental medicine as well as the direction for the future. Results : 'The Dongui Bogam in My Hand' has been downloaded more than 10,000 times for 4 months since it releases in August 2014, and is used for at least 6,000 times on average every month. This achievement can be due to the two following reasons. First, the application contains high-quality contents such as the original text of Donguibogam as well as Korean and English translations. Second, it satisfied the needs of Donguibogam users with (1) the Browse function that well displays the table of contents, (2) the Search function that separates the title from the main text, and (3) the Personalization function designed to link and share relevant knowledge. Conclusions : Computerization of Chinese records was triggered by the request of the academia, but it was accelerated after being selected as a public laboring project to overcome the IMF crisis. However, computerization of ancient documents is not a simple task but a field of study to modernize classical knowledge. The success or failure of computerization of Chinese records is determined by whether high-quality modern 'contents' are secured, whether the 'container' design adequately implements the search, browse and link functions, and how well it fulfills the needs of the consumer 'community'.

  • It is difficult to merge text document and to remake use of documents on the most collaborative document authoring system using text document, and also to provide the storage place for saving and keeping documents. It has vulnerable drawbacks about the security though it provides the accessible abilities due to basing it on Web. In this paper, we design and implementation the collaborative document authoring system for XML document to improve a couple of problems on these systems. For these, we based on the DOM to manipulate the modeling object documents and utilized RMI on this system without considering socket communication when it transmits and receives Java objects. We improved the security through processes of authentication. By providing templates and editing functions such as annotation, visualization of document structures, we made easier making collaborative document authoring more than ever.

An Experimental Study on the Relation Extraction from Biomedical Abstracts using Machine Learning (기계 학습을 이용한 바이오 분야 학술 문헌에서의 관계 추출에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper introduces a relation extraction system that can be used in identifying and classifying semantic relations between biomedical entities in scientific texts using machine learning methods such as Support Vector Machines (SVM). The suggested system includes many useful functions capable of extracting various linguistic features from sentences having a pair of biomedical entities and applying them into training relation extraction models for maximizing their performance. Three globally representative collections in biomedical domains were used in the experiments which demonstrate its superiority in various biomedical domains. As a result, it is most likely that the intensive experimental study conducted in this paper will provide meaningful foundations for research on bio-text analysis based on machine learning.

  • In the paper, the design and the implementation of the netscape plug-in and the speech synthesis enginegenerating the speech sounds from the text information of the web pages are described. The steps of the generating speech sound from an web pages are the speech synthesis plug-in is activated when the netscape finds the audio/xesp MIME data type embedded in the browsed web page; the HTML file referenced in the EMBED MTML tag is down loaded from the referenced URL to send to the commander object located in the said plug-in; The speech synthesis engine control tags and the text characters are extracted from the down loaded HTML document by the commander object the synthesized speech sounds are generated by the speech synthesis engine. The speech synthesis engine interprets the command streams from the commander objects to call the member functions for the processing of the speech segment data in the data banks. The commander object and the speech synthesis engine are designed as an independent object to enhancethe flexitility and the portability.

  • Smartphone has become a part of many people's daily lives. The mobile messenger function on the smartphone in particular is the most frequently used services. The mobile communication tool in the age of digital media can be classified into two big categories: text messages and emoticons, the non-verbal expression tool of one's emotions. This thesis has studied the mobile communications made by the non-verbal tool of emoticons. The history of emoticons traces back to the text-based emoticon created by Scott Fahlman, from which graphical emoticons were developed and the sound and animation effects have been added. Many people use emoticons and diverse companies are developing the tool. In this study, the representative emoticon development case of Line Co., Ltd. is analyzed to see the concept, types, development process, collaborations and merchandising of the emoticons. Based on the case of Line, the development orientation and direction of domestic emoticons will be discussed to be culture contents.

  • In this paper, VR game was produced to inform the danger of using smartphone while walking and to raise awareness. In this VR games, you can experience Smombie (smart phone and zombie compound word) like a real situation by using Google card board and Bluetooth controller. Designed as a directions game of everyday material, the user indirectly experiences the dangerous situations that may actually occur in everyday life. In the virtual space, you can see the map on the smartphone, navigate the route, and send text messages using the controller during the game. We will explain how to implement smartphone map and send text message using controller which are the main functions of VR game.
