Assessment of Accuracy of IKONOS Image Map, Traditional Orthophoto Map and Conventional Line Map of Kathmandu Valley : A Pilot Study

  • IKONOS image mapping is being considered a possible replacement to the traditional mapping in many countries due to their ease of access to current data and their potential high resolution. Survey Department of His Majesty's Government completed traditional orthophoto mapping of all urban and semi-urban areas of the country. The 1:5000 monochrome orthophoto maps of Kathmandu Valley were completed in 2003. In 2002, as a test, production of a near natural colour Image Map at 1:5000 scale of a part of Kathmandu Valley based on IKONOS data was carried out. A conventional line map plotting of the same area at 1:5000 was also prepared. The objective of the pilot project was to assess the geometric accuracy and the information content of these maps. The details of the study and their results are underlined. The findings of the study helps to explain whether IKONOS image map can replace conventional orthophoto map at 1:5,000 for urban areas of Nepal like Kathmandu.

  • Efficiency and limitations of HAZUS-MH, a GIS based systematic and informative system developed by FEMA and NIBS for natural hazard loss estimations, are discussed by means of a pilot study in the Korean Peninsular. Gyeongsang-do has been selected for the test after careful reviews of previous studies including historical and modern seismicity in the peninsular. A ShakeMap for the selected scenario earthquake with magnitude 6.7 in Gyeongju area is prepared. Then, any losses due to the scenario event have been estimated using HAZUS. Results of the pilot test show that the study area may experience significant physical, economic and social damages. Detailed study in the future will provide efficient and crucial information to the decision makers and emergency agents to mitigate any disaster posed by natural hazards.

Open Source GIS를 이용한 고해상도 영상의 Tile Map Service 시스템 구축에 관한 연구 (A Study on Tile Map Service of High Spatial Resolution Image Using Open Source GIS)

  • Tile Map Service는 정적인 이미지들을 모아둔 저장소를 이용하여 매우 빠르게 지도 서비스를 수행하는 서비스이다. 지도 이미지 저장소는 특정 축척별로 지도 영역을 Tile 이미지로 저장한 디렉토리 구조이다. 따라서 디렉토리 구조로부터 이미지를 불러오는 것은 사용자의 요구에 따라서 지도를 데이터베이스로부터 직접 생성하는 것보다 훨씬 시간 단축이 이루어진다. 이와 같은 Tile Map Service를 이용하면 사용자가 복잡한 지도를 생성할 때 획기적으로 지도 생성 시간을 단축시키는 효과와 성능 향상을 위한 제반 노력을 제거할 수 있다. 본 논문은 Open Source GIS를 사용하여 고해상도 영상의 Tile Map Service 시스템을 구축하는 방안을 제시하는 것이다. Open Source GIS중 GDAL(Geospatial Data Abstraction Library)을 사용하여 Tile Map Image를 생성하였으며, OpenLayers를 이용하여 웹브라우저를 통한 서비스를 구축하였다. 또한 Tile Map Service 시스템을 구축 한 후 전통적인 방식으로 지도 렌더링을 수행하는 시스템과 성능테스트를 수행하여 결과를 비교 분석하였다. 수행 결과 본 연구를 통하여 제안된 방법으로 고해상도의 영상 데이터를 상용소프트웨어의 도입 없이 고가용성의 Tile Map Service 시스템을 구축할 수 있었다.

인지지도 유사도와 정신적 작업부하와의 관계에 대한 연구 (The study of the relationship between the similarity of cognitive map and the mental workload)

  • The similarity of shape of shape of interface between human cognitive map and real product is the important factor to determine the human performance. Nevertheless, the degree of similarity between these has not been defined quantitatively in recent studies. Therefore, in this study, the cognitive map and the mental workload were measured by SMM(Sketch Map Method) and RNASA-TLX(Revision of NASA-Task Load Index). And the numerical expression of the accuracy point was suggested for the quantitative calculation of relative positional similarity between cognitive map and real product. In the experiment, nine subjects were participated and two kinds of vehicles were used. Mental workload was mental workload was measured immediately after the road test. The result of analysis on the relationship between accuracy and mental workload shows that the negative correlation exists on each vehicle, and the lower score of mental workloads id measured on the vehicle that has the higher score of accuracy between two vehicles.

  • We investigate the groundwater distribution and chemical characteristics for 3 or 5 districts every year and make the hydrogeologic map on a scale of 1:50,000. We draw the hydrogeologic digital map based on "The Handbook for the Drawing and Management of Hydrogeologic Map" which was published by MOCT and KOWACO in 1998. But, the Stiff diagram and well's notation are difficult to be presented in the digital map using the commercial Arcview GIS tools. So we develop the script file with Avenue language to represent them in Arcview GIS tool. At first, we design the database for the chemical analysis result of groundwater and well identification, and make the program code with Avenue language to display them on the digital map. And next we test the usefulness of the program code. As a result, we find that the script file is very useful for drawing the symbols and diagrams in hydrogeologic digital map using ArcView GIS.

  • In this paper, to realize the network management function in automated manufacturing network Mini-MAP, the network management requirements are analyzed and the network management system is implemented on the basis of this analysis. The implemented management system which has both local management and remote management mechanism is considered as a single domain on the Mini-MAP network. Here, the remote management functions consist of network status, monitoring and remote operations and the local management functions have parameter display and network self testing. The MAP network controller is designed according to the MAP version 3.0 specifications and IEEE 802 standards. the operations of network management system are certified througth the test environments which consists of the implemented network adaptor and softwares for Mini-MAP.

  • 제조장치의 네트워크 환경은 PLC, 로보트와 같은 프로그래머블디바이스에 Mini- MAP 네트워크 접속장치를 장착하여 원격제어가 가능한 공정한 네트워크 시스템 구성 이 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서 설계된 공정 네트워크 접속장치는 MAP 3.0 규격을 근거로 MAC부 계층은 TBC(token bus controller)가 수행하고, LLC부 계층은 class 3으로, 응용계층은 MMS(manufacturing message standard)를 기본으로 설계하였다. 구현된 소프트웨어는 Mini-MAP의 실시간 정보 전송 성능을 보존하기 위하여 C Exec. 의 real-time executive를 기반으로 설계하여 firmware로 탑재하였다. 본 접속장치는 군관리 공정 모델에서 시험 운영하였으며, LLC 계층의 오류검출과 전송기능은 프로토 콜 분석기를 이용하여 확인하였으며, MMS는 적합성 시험을 이미 받은 MMS를 탑재한 상용제품과의 통신운영을 통하여 적합성 시험을 확인하였다.

Z-map과 절삭계수를 이용한 볼엔드밀의 평균절삭력 예측 (Prediction of Mean Cutting Force in Ball-end Milling using 2-map and Cutting Parameter)

  • A new cutting parameter is defined in the spherical part of ball end-mill cutter. A series of slot cutting experiments were carried out to obtain the cutting parameter. The cutter contact area is expressed as the grid posiotion in the cutting plane using Z map. The cutting forces in each grid are calculated and saved as force map, prior to the average cutting forces calculation. The cutting force, in the arbitrary cutting area, can be easily calculated by summing up the cutting forces of the engaged grid in the force map. This model was verified in the inclined surface cutting by cutting test of a cylindrical part.

  • A knowledge map, a taxonomy of knowledge repositories, must have capabilities supporting and enhancing knowledge user's activity to search and select proper knowledge for problem-solving. Conventional knowledge maps, however, have been hierarchically categorized, and could not support such activity that must coincide with the user's cognitive process for knowledge utilization. This paper, therefore, aims to verify and develop a methodology to build a networked knowledge map that can support user's activity to search and retrieve proper knowledge based on the referential navigation between content-relevant knowledge. This paper deploys keywords as the semantic information between knowledge, because they can represent the overall contents of a given document, and because they can play the role of semantic information on the link between related documents. By aggregating links between documents, a document network can be formulated: a keyword-based networked knowledge map can be finally built. Domain expert-based validation test was also conducted on a networked knowledge map of 50 research papers, which confirmed the performance of the proposed methodology to be outstanding with respect to the precision and recall.

  • 미국, 유럽 등 해외 선진국에서는 농업생산환경 모니터링 시스템을 구축하여 작물 생산량 예측, 기상 변화 및 이상치 관측, 작물 재배지 분류 및 면적 산정 등 작물 생산에 영향을 주는 요인에 대한 정보 취득과 분석에 활용하고 있다. 이러한 시스템은 오픈소스 및 상용소프트웨어를 활용한 웹 기반 시스템이며 원격탐사자료를 활용한 다양한 정보 제공이 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 농업생산환경 모니터링을 위하여 널리 활용되고 있는 GeoServer, ArcGIS Server를 이용하여 Map Server 및 Web Application Server가 구성되었으며 응답시간 및 데이터 전송량 평가를 통하여 향후 농업생산환경 모니터링을 위한 시스템 구성과 이에 대한 성능평가를 진행하였다. 동일한 조건에서 구축된 시스템은 응답시간 및 초당 데이터전송량에서 GeoServer가 상대적으로 우수한 결과를 나타내었다.
